From Examiner

Firu, the dog who was dragged behind his owner’s truck, has stirred deep emotions in those that have viewed his graphic photos. Seeing the severity of his injuries spurs an ache that can’t be soothed.

Samantha Hodge, Firu’s care provider, went to visit Firu Saturday afternoon. The battered dog was alert and aware of her presence. Hodge and her husband assisted Dr. Wallrich in the changing of Firu’s bedding and wound dressings.

Though the large dog is in extreme pain, he did nothing more than lick the lands of those that were tending to him when the pain was too much to bear…a testament to the demeanor of this grievously wounded dog.

There are many areas of Firu’s body that are deeply concerning to Dr. Wallrich, and Hodge. Areas that are infected, raw, incredibly painful. However, the doctor is optimistic that Firu will make a full recovery – with time, love and good care.

Hodge has been buried in emails from those that are concerned. Many people are asking who did this to Firu and what is happening to that individual. She is unaware of what will happen to that person – it is in the hands of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg, NC Police department.

Hodge is unsure of Firu’s breed. He may be a Boxer mix, he may be a Pit Bull, he may be an American Bulldog. She doesn’t care – she wants to see him healthy and well again.

Some people have inquired if Firu will be returned to his owners – she answers with a resounding no. Eventually, after Firu’s long road to recovery, the dog will be adopted – most likely to a very special family, carefully chosen by Hodge.

Firu continues to rest and receive his care at the Animal Hospital of East Burke in Valdese, NC. He will remain there until he is well enough to leave.

Those interested in donating towards his mounting medical costs can direct donations to:

Please continue to hold Firu in your thoughts and prayers as he struggles through his intensely painful recovery.

The person that did this should not get away with it ! I pray they catch him and charge him. He should be used as an example that animal abuse will not be tolerated ! Poor Firu , I also pray that someone takes him and gives him the life he so deserves after this has happened to him. So sad. I wish him Love and a peaceful life, poor sweet baby.

This is so sad, breaks my heart. All animals want is to be loved, that owner needs to face the Judge and get max sentence as if it were a human. Firu is a living being, breathing etc. He needs respect. His owner clearly has some mentally unstable issues that are unresolved and the dog was the poor being that got it. Keep this so called owner off the streets or someone will be his next target or child who knows what his next action will be. Very scary.

    drag behind a truck
by the lowest form of man
    firu still manages
    to kiss his caregiver’s hands
    where in the homo sapien
    lexicon of behavior
    is this nobility
    man, in all his endlessly
    cruel lack of civility
    from a gentle white dog
    a lesson learned
    no matter how hurt,
    he never turned

If the punishment fit the crime… or worse… then perhaps these low-life’s would think twice about what they are doing… This country needs to start prosecuting the guilty in the harshest manner to stop this insanity!

This dog is obviously a sweet angel who’s been a victim of a huge and disgusting, idiotic crime. If people had even an inkling of what they have coming to them for these crimes, they’d end all this immediately. In this universe, everything balances out eventually. These people should be very, very afraid, but they are too brain-dead and soul-dead to think of any further than the sick “power” thrill they get from causing suffering to creatures far superior to them. Too bad for the sadistic lowlives that their deadness won’t alleviate any of their suffering to come 🙂

The word is this individual tied the dog behind his truck, got drunk, and forgot he was back there. However far the dog was dragged makes me shudder to think about. He is missing part of his tongue and all four paws were burned off. He has extensive burns all over his body and has had surgery with drain tubes put in. As of today, he is feeling a little better. Donations can be made directly to the vet’s office and please do so if you can. Here is a link to pictures of Firu when he arrived at the vets office.
    WARNING… They are graphic…

People who do these kinda things deserve to be punished the same way as they hurt such innocent animals …….is true what they say man kind is more wild then the animal themself.

I would like to know if this sweet dog has been adopted yet, and if not, how I can get an email address or phone number to the shelter that has him.

This is a terrible thing that happened to this angel. My eyes start to water everytime I see something so horrible happen to an innocent animal. It makes me think back to when my puppy got killed by a driver a cople days before he was 9 months and almost Christams. When some *!@#$ person had to run him over TWICE and break his neck. I felt so upset and hurt and wandered why someone would do such thing to animals, he was my baby but they knew it wasn’t their puppy so they didn’t care if he was dead or not. Now I wander how can someone do that to their own animal and put them through so much pain and horror. I pray that Firu makes it and has amazing recovery. I also pray that he can find an home who will love him and take care of him like he deserves and has a happy future as well. =D
