What’s the difference between a nonvegan who supports the SaveBaconAct or a nonvegan who opposes the SaveBaconAct?
Spoiler alert: empathize with the actual animal victims, see Commentary below, but first please read about Luna and watch Animal Rising’s investigation , or view above, and sign petition to help.
Source Animal Rising
As you may know, for the past few months, Animal Rising has been investigating life inside Red Court Farm in Ipswich. Our cameras followed a mother pig named Luna for a month: her life, her babies, and the conditions around her. As we learned about her as an individual and a mother, what we saw made us sick. Millions of pigs like Luna are imprisoned on factory farms. But now that we know her, we can’t ignore the chance to change her future.
Luna gave birth inside a farrowing crate: a metal enclosure that keeps a mother pig in one position while her piglets move around her. She could only either stand up and lie down. She could not turn around or walk. We repeatedly saw her biting the bars, a recognised sign of stress in pigs prevented from doing what they’re wired to do.
Even inside that crate, Luna tried. She fed her piglets. She resisted, pushing against the bars, resisting the farmers when they came for her babies. The crate stops a mother pig from mothering in any real sense, but it didn’t stop Luna from trying.
Then her babies were taken from her. She had no way of knowing why, or where they were going. She couldn’t even turn to watch them go.
And she will be subjected to this over and over. According to our investigations, based on her cycle, Luna has almost certainly already been inseminated again. Later this year, she’ll be confined once more to give birth to another litter, and the pattern repeats: pregnancy, confinement, birth, separation. In the same barn as Luna, some mothers were on their eighth pregnancy.
We saw where that leads at Red Court Farm. A neighbouring sow we named Renee was severely lame, barely able to stand, before she was forcibly removed from her crate and killed. Across the farm, we documented other lame and injured sows, and dead piglets left strewn about in the farrowing units.
We don’t want that to be Luna’s future. There’s another option.
Red Court Farm can free her. We’re asking them to do exactly that.
But it’s crucial we have your help to build the pressure. This is a fight we can win. Public pressure is powerful and Red Court Farm is not immune: the more people watching, the harder Luna’s story is to ignore. And we have a plan…
From 1 September, Animal Rising campaigner Michelle Farnham is spending 21 days and nights living inside a farrowing crate in Trafalgar Square to introduce the public to the cruelty that roughly 200,000 mother pigs are experiencing in this very moment.
We’re in awe of Michelle’s bravery, but importantly the suffering Michelle is willing to endure is a fraction of what Luna endures every day. Michelle can walk out when the 21 days are over. Luna can’t.
That’s why we need you to sign and multiply your impact by sharing this petition as far as you can. Every signature tells Red Court Farm that people are watching.
If you want to do more, you can:

Commentary
There is not a single soul who honestly believes that exploiting animals – consuming, using, wearing, etc. – is done for an animal’s benefit. You do not exploit animals because you believe that NOT exploiting animals is INhumane. The idea of such is preposterous.
For example, claiming that nursing pigs need to be extremely confined to protect the piglets from being squashed is fraudulent validation: using extreme exploitation to justify other exploitation doesn’t legitimatize imprisoning animals in the first place, they are confined for financial purposes, and if people are really concerned with piglets being killed, then they shouldn’t consume their mothers, thus eliminating any pregnancy requirement and all the “messy lives” the death industry despises and finds so inconvenient. Period.
And when are the nonvegans going to address that nobody is concerned with large mothers in “nature” NOT squashing their babies? Elephants? Rhinos??? Preweaned piglet mortality in the USA is 8.3% – 20.2% (Pork Checkoff), and include starvation and disease, so when are the pro-farrowers going to stop promoting gestation crates and ban those in every state? (Both farrowing and gestation crates are extremely confining, farrowing is nursing/gestation is pregnancy, many countries have outright banned gestation crates and in the US a few states have. Why? Imagine living in your bathtub, unable to turn/sit/stand 24/7, the only time you leave it is when you are violently slaughtered, and if a few US states ban gestation crates for extreme cruelty, why don’t others?) Or, bottom line, when are they going to acknowledge that protecting piglets requires protecting mothers requires being vegan?
The level of barbarism that constantly changes to include more and more abusive practices is inhuman, and the lies people adopt to frame such inhumanity as acceptable protocols is – without exception – evil.
And for all the zillions of nonvegans who are absolutely aghast that – horrors! – republicans want to ensure that animals can continually and painfully and psychologically be cruelly abused in EVERY. ASPECT. OF. THEIR. PREMATURELY. ENDED. LIVES and ignore legally-passed and SCOTUS-approved welfarist proposals that ban farrowing crates (tbf, the two-party system has failed animals, and only one cares about animals when convenient)…Guess what? You all don’t have to pretend to scream into the void any longer, ALL-CAPPING your disgust on social media, demanding immediate action (that literally takes decades in reality, if ever), promising to pay your share of “more humanely raised animals”: you can boycott the entire depraved, unethical, and barbaric industry NOW. Today. Immediately. It’s a matter of just stopping – stopping consuming animals’ abused and killed bodies and secretions: step up and show up, actually DO something that matters and that has a positive impact on animals.
Because, bottom line: You don’t have to wait for other people to endlessly debate and sue and appeal to NOT harm animals “as much” via marginal “improvements”; you can be humane and decent and ethical TODAY, on your own, with zero influence from other people. Be vegan, right now. Because, for sure, what’s the difference between a nonvegan who supports the SaveBaconAct or a nonvegan who opposes the SaveBaconAct? Animals suffer and die regardless of whether they are confined or extremely confined. And if you oppose these practices (and even if you don’t because you possess zero capacity for ethical and moral actions and are therefore incapable of critical thinking and meaningful consideration) because of how cruel they are, how can you NOT oppose the greatest harm – violent death? You’ve been supporting the violent suffering of animals for-ever, but now that you are aware of just one of the cajillions of horrors inflicted relentlessly on animals, you feign immunity, that it’s someone else who is at fault, that you “never knew” blahblahblah, but as I have read and heard, “In the age of information, ignorance is a choice…” So, please, stop blaming others and start helping animals: be vegan.
