Urgent: Ask Creek Investments to Pull Funding for World’s Largest Foie Gras Farm, send sample message

Creek Project Investments, the Cambridgeshire-based company behind plans to build what could be the world’s largest foie gras farm in China, has announced that the project is now on hold pending a review of animal welfare concerns. More than 200 hectares of land in Nanchang, Jiangxi province, have been set aside for the factory farm. Three million geese are already at the intensive farm, which, according to the company’s website, would have “a projected total rearing of 100 million geese/ducks within 5 years”. Creek Project Investments has now said that plans are suspended whilst it looks into animal welfare concerns “which may or may not exist”. We urgently need as many people as possible to contact the company, let them know that the animal welfare concerns are very real and urge them to end their involvement in foie gras production permanently.
Foie gras, French for “fatty liver”, is produced by force-feeding ducks and geese huge amounts of grain and fat several times a day until their livers become grossly enlarged. The food is pumped directly into their stomachs via a tube that is forced down their throats. As a result of this cruel process, the birds become sick and lethargic and many have great difficulty breathing, walking and grooming.
Whilst foie gras production is legal in China, it is shameful that a British company is behind this cruel venture when force-feeding is rightly banned in the UK.
Cruelty to animals on this immense scale is almost unimaginable. Please speak out by contacting Creek Project Investments today and urging them to end their involvement in this shameful practice.

As a vegan, Urban Decay has been one of the shining lights for the community as a high-quality cosmetics company that we could depend on, but not anymore. Urban Decay’s statement they released about China is hypocritical: if they wanted to make change in the country, they would go there and DEMAND their products to not be tested on animals or they would refuse to sell them.

I am shocked to learn that Urban Decay has made the unfortunate decision to begin marketing products in China, despite China’s animal testing requirement, and despite Urban Decay’s longstanding policy against animal testing. I am therefore writing to respectfully request that you continue producing items in the absence of animal testing. Considered archaic and fundamentally flawed, product testing on animals lacks corporate legitimacy and social validation. Furthermore, it is imperative to recognize the existence of ingredients that already have an established, proven safety record for human use. These products, such as those found on the FDA GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) list, can be utilized and manufactured in the absence of deliberately cruel and unwarranted animal experimentation. Urban Decay‘s blatant disregard for animals and its potential decision to implement Chinese testing requirements is irresponsible and negligent.
Furthermore, the attempt to foster an idea that consumers continually support animal experimentation due to some inaccurate notion that it will prevent them from being harmed is unprincipled. Product misuse and abuse can lead to harm regardless of how many animals are wrongfully killed during the product testing phase. In fact, corporate manipulation and exploitation of consumer fear by using deceptive advertising is not only unethical but it is also illegal. As such, if Urban Decay decides to unnecessarily and selfishly capitalize on the mutilation, torture, and death of animals, I will not financially support you; furthermore, I will share this information with family, friends, colleagues, and members of online communities as well.
Please make both the ethical and financially-responsible decision to discontinue any plans to engage in animal experimentation immediately: join an increasing body of corporations who are listening to a concerned and attentive consumer population who refuse to be complicit in the inherently malicious industry of animal experimentation.

We have written to UQ again, it appears they have stopped using pound dogs in terminal operations, however greyhounds remain questionable. Pigs are definitely being used and its a great pity that this university feels that pigs are of less value than dogs so they are performing terminal operations on these wonderful animals and killing them like they have no purpose. Killing any animal to teach vet science is not ethical medicine. The oath of medicine is to value life and not kill any patient deliberately. We await their reasons for not teaching ethically and humanely when so many humane options are available to them and their students.

I am extremely disturbed to about the University of Queensland’s use of animals, namely pigs, in terminal experiments for research, the efficacy of which is unproven, demonstrably cost-prohibitive, and lethal, not only on non-human animals, but also on human animals. These experiments subject these sentient animals to enormous suffering and pain, and I respectfully request that you immediately cease your participation in such an unethical practice.
Since animals cannot be substituted for human beings, subjecting them to this exploitative process reflects a blatant disregard for life; how can we teach our future medical professionals ethics while enforcing a course that maims and kills live, sentient beings? This represents a conflict of interest as well as a contradiction in both morals and actions: if non-human animals are deemed similar enough to humans physiologically, then you must acknowledge that, as sentient beings, they should not be exploited and killed either. Any other conclusion would be considered a discord and would serve as a detriment to the learning process, especially in such a critical field of study.
Animal experimentation is unnecessary, unjustified, and unprincipled, its only function to financially benefit those who exploit animals. Animals have rights to live free from pain and suffering regardless of your objections to acknowledge such, and as long as you profit on the torture of animals, complicit in their abuse and death, I will continue campaigning on their behalf. Please use the superior alternative, non-lethal forms of experimentation instead.

On July 1st, 2012, a quota of 85,000 Cape Fur seal pups are set to be beaten to death in Namibia. The pups are separated from their mothers. They are herded away from the safety of the sea where they are then beaten to death with pick handles. They are stabbed in the throat, often while still alive.

A further quota of 6,000 adult bull seals will be set. These are to be shot at point blank range so that their genitals can be exported to the East where they are used to make ineffective sex potions for the Asian Market.
We can beat this curelty!
Aside from the cruelty aspect, an independent report shows that seal viewing based ecotourism in Namibia will yield three hundred times more revenue than the massacre and will create a wealth of job opportunities in a country desperate for employment.
This is not just about animals, but people too!!

I am writing to support S6431 and A.7707a which would protect global shark populations by banning the possession, sale, offering for sale, trade, or distribution of shark fins in the state of New York. In recent decades, some shark populations have decreased by more than 90%, largely as a result of direct fishing. Each year, tens of millions of sharks are killed for their fins to fulfill the demand for shark fin soup. Because sharks are top predators, removing sharks from ocean ecosystems can destabilize the ocean food web and lead to negative environmental and economic effects. Sharks keep ecosystems healthy by preying on the sick and the weak, which prevents disease and leads to healthier fishes. Sharks also prevent prey populations from growing too quickly, which leads to the damage of corals reefs and seagrass beds.
While shark finning is illegal in the U.S., the trading of shark fins is not and the consumption of shark fin soup continues. The demand for fins as an ingredient in shark fin soup contributes to shark finning, a wasteful and cruel practice that is endangering numerous shark populations around the world.
This bill will reduce pressure on shark populations globally by ending the demand for shark fins in New York. Animal Equality has released an undercover investigation revealing the brutal slaughter of bluefin tunas, which takes place each year, between late May and early June, in Carloforte – a city in the district of Carbonia-Iglesias (Sardinia).
The tunas in the Mediterranean Sea are mainly caught by mobile traps, although traditional fixed traps are still used in the ‘tuna slaughter of Carloforte’. The footage reveals the different stages of the slaughter: how the frantic and panicked tunas are stacked on-top of each other, injuring themselves during the capture; and how they are violently struck with harpoons and dragged to the boats, they are then stabbed in the heart and left choking and bleeding to death.
Dr. Lorelei Wakefield veterinarian expert and Founder of University of Pennsylvania ‘Veterinary Animal Welfare Society’, has reviewed the findings and commented:
“Some fish were stabbed deeply in major arteries to bleed them out. Others were simply left to suffocate out of water. None of the tuna died quickly. They all thrashed around in a bloody mess for at least several minutes.”
We are urging the City Council of Carloforte, International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT), European Fisheries Control Agency (EFCE) and the European Parliament to call for the abolition of this cruel practice immediately, and the prohibition of tuna fishing worldwide.

It is incredibly shocking for me to witness the brutality and violence inflicted on blue fin tuna during the slaughter that takes place every year in Carloforte, documented by the organisation, Animal Equality. The images reveal terrified and wounded tuna writhing in pain during capture, and tuna being brutally harpooned, dragged on board, and stabbed with a knife causing death via exsanguination.
“Tradition” and “culture” should never be associated with this unjustified cruel practice.
Several important studies have documented that fish have a clear ability to experience sensations such as pain and that their behavior is altered by the presence of noxious stimuli. Besides, to justify the brutal killing of blue fin tuna because these animals may feel less stress or pain than other animals (e.g. mammals), or because fish are less intelligent than so-called ‘higher’ animals, is morally unjustifiable.
I therefore request the competent authorities act to abolish this cruel and unjustified practice immediately, and for the international organisations to ban permanently the fishing of these animals worldwide.

The Khokana festival, Nepal, is held every year in August, the day after Gai Jatra. A 5-6 month old goat is thrown in a pond close to Rudrayani temple in Khokana, a village in the south of Kathmandu Valley.
Nine young men enter the pond and start to tear the goat apart by grasping its legs, ears, hoof or tail. The one who manages to kill the goat is the ‘hero’ and leads the Shinkali dance which is held afterwards.

I would like to express my deep concern about extreme cases of animal cruelty being conducted in the name of religion in Nepal.
In Nepal, animal sacrifice is widely practiced. There are no rules of regulation; rather, the government supports blood sacrifices by providing subsidies.
Apart from regular sacrifices at Goddess temples, extreme cruelty is conducted at certain festivals including the live skinning and burning of animals, slow killings through throat slitting, killing with unsharp knives, public beheadings, et cetera.
In particular, I refer to the Khokana Festival, held in August, during which a terrified goat is thrown in the Deu-pond close to the Rudrayani temple, after which the animal is torn apart whilst still alive by a group of young men.
No one can adequately explain why this practice is carried out year after year – except to say that it is ‘traditional’. This, however, is not a valuable argument to continue this practice. Nepal, realizing the adverse effects, has abolished a number of ‘traditions’ in the past, including human sacrifice and widow burning.
I encourage the government of Nepal to abolish the above practice for the following reasons:
1. It hurts the goats – contrary to what many believe, animals suffer tremendously before and during sacrifice. They are generally hurt during transportation, starved and dehydrated, and they are often purposely killed slowly and painfully, as it is believed that the goddess prefers slow deaths.
2. It hurts us – cruelty against animals harms society as a whole; it signals and normalizes insensitivity in children who can become numb to the suffering of living beings, and it is also proven to influence certain people to commit violence on other humans.
3. It strengthens vested interests – sacrifices generally boost the interests of those who benefit from superstition-based beliefs and rituals. As Nepal is moving ahead to become a more fully democratic, egalitarian society, it is crucial to challenge age-old beliefs which are not beneficial and drain the resources of the poor and needy.
4. It contradicts the spirit of laws – Nepal is concerned about the welfare of its precious flora and fauna, and has signed a number of international Wildlife Treaties. The cruelty displayed in this so-called tradition completely contradicts the spirit and gestures of these treaties and acts.
5. It is bad for tourism – As tourists are abhorred by such practices, the festival will have an adverse effect on tourism, an industry which provides the country with much-needed financial returns. Those foreigners who experience or come to know the extent of sacrifice in this country leave Nepal traumatized, disgusted, and deeply saddened, rather than uplifted by its paradoxical beauty and friendliness.
I urge you to end the violent practice at Khokana and help Nepal move towards a truly peaceful country, and in keeping with its international image. This can be done by introducing and enforcing a much-needed Animal Welfare Act and promoting genuine animal welfare activities across the country.
I trust that the government of Nepal will support these measures, which are becoming more popular by the day, globally, and thus promote non-violent cultural practices in Nepal. Until such a time, however, it will be necessary to boycott Nepal both as a tourist and via commerce as well as encourage others to participate in a boycott as well.

Rock Springs One, a homeowners’ association (HOA) in Mesquite, Nevada, is considering the use of notorious poison Avitrol to kill pigeons and other birds living in its neighborhood. PETA informed the management about the cruelty of Avitrol, but to no apparent avail. Reportedly, the HOA is voting on this issue this Thursday, May 31!
Lethal methods don’t work and will actually backfire. Whenever birds are killed or removed, a spike in the food supply results, which causes accelerated breeding among survivors and newcomers. Populations then increase! Furthermore, Avitrol is horribly cruel. It causes disorientation, convulsions, and a slow, agonizing death. Pest-control companies often tell clients that Avitrol only “scares birds away,” but this is flatly untrue. And dogs, cats, and “nontarget” wildlife can die after consuming the bodies of poisoned birds.
Please politely urge Rock Springs One HOA officials to refrain from poisoning birds and to stick with humane and effective bird control methods instead.

First, these animals are targeted to be killed as a response to private and public objections over their presence, and the use of the poison Avitrol has been chosen as the preferred method of death. This poison is not rapid; in fact, it causes a drawn-out and painful condition that can last for days. Many birds will attempt escape and fly only to be stricken mid-flight to fall to the ground dying upon impact.
Second, this poison can also affect other non-target wild and non-wild animals, including those who maintain an endangered definition.
Third, killing the birds artificially increases food supplies to the remaining birds, the consequence of which is increased reproduction and an ensuing greater bird population. In fact, studies have demonstrated that the continual cycle of seasonal culls is responsible for a rebound, or larger populations, in subsequent years.
As such, I respectfully request that you work with particular groups and citizens to develop alternative, humane solutions to killing these animals. These creatures are sentient and deserve our compassion and respect, not our brutality and violence.
