HighestWelfare.Humane.Assured.GoodPractices.Vegetarian. Regenerative.Flexitarian.Lies...

What is the difference between No Welfare, High Welfare, and Highest Welfare when they all require animals to die? Only human comfort, NONE protect the actual animals. The most humane, ethical, and honest Webster-defined "welfare" is NOT exploiting animals - not using, not wearing, not eating, not killing - animals. The only meaningful position is vegan, everything else is just how humans euphemize animals' required suffering and violent deaths: no human exploits animals because they honestly believe that NOT exploiting animals is UNethical or INhumane.

Demand Justice for Dog Shot at D.C. Festival

Targeting: Jacob Kishter (Metropolitan Police Department Commander) and Cathy Lanier (Metropolitan Chief of Police)

Started by: Stephanie Feldstein

BACKGROUND

On September 12, at the Adams Morgan festival in Washington, D.C., a dog named Parrot got into an altercation with a poodle. The caretakers had broken up the fight when D.C. police arrived on the scene. According to witnesses and photographs, the officer pinned Parrot to the ground with his knee, then hurled him down a concrete stairwell, and finally pulled out his weapon and shot him.

There is no evidence that Parrot was a threat, especially since photographs showed that he was contained. Stories of police shooting dogs are in the news all too often. It is not only a cruel death for the dogs, but it is devastating for their families and dangerous for people in the vicinity of the gunshots.

BACKGROUND
All material below has been obtained from the BBC website and various newspapers

A south Devon man and two teenagers have appeared in court accused of ‘physically and mentally’ torturing a cat.

The one-year-old cat’s owner – a boy of four – was heartbroken by the cruelty inflicted on his pet.

It’s believed the man who was arrested was his uncle. Police were also quizzing two teenaged boys.

Colin Sherlock, 44, appeared in the dock with two boys, aged 16 and 17.

Sherlock, from Third Avenue, Dawlish, and the two boys from Teignmouth — who cannot be named — are all accused of causing unnecessary suffering to the one-year-old female cat.

Police were alerted after a recipient of the video reported it to the RSPCA.

Investigating officer, Pc Phil Colley, said the footage showed the cat being put in the microwave for 10 seconds before being pulled out and put into a tumble drier for another 10 seconds.

The terrified cat is then picked up by the scruff of the neck and put in a freezer before being shoved into a bowl of dishwater.PC Phil Colley said of the attack in Teignmouth, Devon: “The cat was reportedly smoking after being let out of the microwave having suffered terribly. I was horrified when I saw the footage.” RSPCA Inspector Jim Farr said: “We are not sure what damage has been done inside the animal. It is obviously very traumatised.”

He said: “I felt sick watching it – it’s the worst case of animal cruelty I have seen in 10 years on the job.”

French Senate Overwhelmingly Approves Burqa Ban

From Care2
By Amelia Thomson-DeVeaux

In a move that was expected but has already begun to cause controversy, the French Senate passed a bill banning the burqa, niqab and other full-body robes worn by Muslim women.  The Assembly passed the bill earlier in the summer, and it will be reviewed by France’s Constitutional Council before it becomes law.

“Showing one’s face is a question of dignity and equality in our republic,” said Justice Minister Michèle Alliot-Marie during Tuesday’s debate in the Senate, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The move has been criticized by some because of the small numbers of French Muslim women who choose to veil completely, saying that it was a move to stigmatize the growing numbers of Muslim immigrants, and make it clear to them that they needed to assimilate to French cultural traditions.  Others said that the veil was an affront to French republican values, saying that face-to-face contact is necessary for active communication.

Protect Dogs, Support Pennsylvania SB1435

September 16, 2010
by

From Animal Law Coalition & Care2

The Pennsylvania Senate Bill 1435 is an anti-tethering proposal that supports the rights and well-being of dogs. The bill was created to protect dogs who are often chained under extreme weather conditions — for long periods of times — left without food or water.

Six states are ahead of Pennsylvania in enforcing anti-tethering laws — California, Connecticut, Nevada, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia — but local animal groups are fighting hard to add Pennsylvania to the list.

The bill clearly states the conditions that are acceptable for the tethering of dogs — including proper collars, lengthy leashes and in distance of food, water and shade. If the bill is passed, any person who does not abide by the new tethering regulations may lose ownership of their dog, in addition to other punishments for animal cruelty.

Support SB1435 to ensure no more dogs are left chained under these life-threatening conditions.

Tell Congress to Help Stop Child Marriage

CARE

BACKGROUND

Child marriage is forced marriage. Sixty million girls around the world have been forced into marriage before the age of 18, a number that grows by 25,000 child brides every day.

The consequences of this pervasive human rights violation are grim and, often, deadly.

Child brides have a diminished chance of completing their education, resulting in limited opportunities and income-earning potential later in life. These girls also are twice as likely to be beaten or threatened with violence by their husbands than girls who marry later in life. In addition, child marriage is usually accompanied by early child bearing, placing young girls at risk for complications during and after childbirth. In fact, complications associated with pregnancy and childbirth are a leading cause of death for girls ages 15–19 worldwide.

You can take action to help end this practice now!

Ask Congress to co-sponsor and help pass the International Protecting Girls by Preventing Child Marriage Act.

From The Washington Post
By Mike Baker

A North Carolina lab has stopped doing research and is surrendering all of its animals a week after an undercover video showed what activists allege were workers cruelly treating dogs, cats and rabbits, federal regulators said Wednesday.

U.S. Department of Agriculture spokesman Dave Sacks said officials are trying to find new homes for more than 200 animals that were at Professional Laboratory and Research Services Inc. He said it was the company’s decision to give them up and stop research. The USDA inspected the site this week and has started a formal investigation.

The developments come after People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals released a video of conditions at the lab. PETA contends that workers violently handled the animals and violated laws.

“I think it’s imperative that all the animals go to good homes,” said Kathy Guillermo, vice president of laboratory investigations at PETA. “They’ve suffered enough. This is a chance for them to know for the first time in their lives some joy and some peace.”

Ban on Fur Trade in Israel Frozen via Dirty Politics

September 15, 2010
by

The anti-fur bill in Israel postponed the day before it was to be voted in, contrary to all expectations.

Please express your disappointment; email the minister with your own message or copy the SAMPLE LETTER below.

From International Anti-Fur Coalition

Tel-Aviv, September, 2nd 2010 – While the bill to ban fur was to be voted in on September, 2nd, Yakov Margi, the Israeli Minister of Religious Services, only one day before, played a very dirty trick. Despite the resolution of all existing conflicting matters, he gave no concrete argument and only said, that he’d like to have the bill reviewed again!

MK Zevulun Orlev, the committee leader then canceled the planned meeting at which the bill was likely to have been voted in. Margi also requested to have the bill reviewed again at the Legislative Committee of Ministers, which would be a huge step backwards, but in the meantime animal rights organizations managed to halt that request until a meeting takes place between both parties, to mediate the unexpected reversal of the situation.

MK Mozes, the main opponent of the bill, after looking at pictures depicting the terrible suffering of the animals in the fur trade, had even confided at the first private meeting that the religious should be the ones leading the fight against the fur trade. While he had said he would relay this message to other religious leaders, he changed his heart!

MK Ronit Tirosh, who has introduced the bill, continues to fight indefatigably for a legislation that would save millions of innocent animals from the fate, anguish and slaughter of the fur trade.

This situation put Israel in a very negative light as the world watches the dirty political games that are played between the religious parties and the fur lobbyists; instead of taking the opportunity to take a moral and ethical historical step.

Chimps May Face More Cruel Testing

September 15, 2010
by

From Care2
By Mac McDaniel

The government is poised to resume invasive testing on chimpanzees at the same time as congress is considering a bill to phase out testing on apes entirely.

Just under 200 chimpanzees are currently residing at an Air Force base in New Mexico. They were relocated there when the research facility they were formerly housed in went bankrupt. They’ve been on a ten year hiatus from being subjected to cruel medical tests and research, but now the federal government wants to relocate them and begin testing on them again.

This comes at the same time as the senate is debating a law which would not only phase out all invasive procedures on great apes, but would also release all federally-owned chimps into animal sanctuaries.

The logic used to justify the cruel and inhumane treatment of animals in laboratories usually revolves around the argument that animals are so different from humans, and humans are so much more important, that their suffering is justified because it supposedly benefits us.

There are many problems with this argument. Firstly, it relies on the premise that human life is so intrinsically superior to animal life that any suffering on the part of animals is justified by the end result’s benefit to us. That premise is inherently flawed because there is no moral standard by which humans can be judged superior to animals.

Eating at McDonald’s can kill you, says a TV ad by a physician group

September 15, 2010
by

From PCRM

A provocative fast-food commercial set in a morgue will air during The Daily Show and local news broadcasts Sept. 16. The ad, produced by the nonprofit Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), takes aim at McDonald’s high-fat menu, with the goal of drawing Washingtonians’ attention to the city’s high rates of heart disease deaths and its high density of fast-food restaurants.

“Our city’s addiction to Big Macs and other high-fat fast food is literally breaking our hearts,” says Susan Levin, M.S., R.D., PCRM’s nutrition education director. “It’s time to tackle the district’s heart disease problem head-on. A moratorium on new fast-food restaurants could be a critically important step toward fighting this epidemic.”

A PCRM survey shows that Washington has more McDonald’s, Burger King, and KFC outlets per square mile than eight other cities with similar population sizes. Offerings at these restaurants include high-fat, high-sodium products such as McDonald’s Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese Extra Value Meal, which has 61 grams of fat and 1,650 milligrams of sodium.

A Case Against Circumcision

September 14, 2010
by

From Care2
By Lissa Rankin

When I was an intern, just starting my OB/GYN residency, someone handed me a list with a dozen names on it and said, “Go. It’s your job to circumcise these babies.” My mouth flung open. Say what?

Do you know what you just made me do to your son?

Sure enough, as it turns out, it’s the intern’s responsibility to wake up sleeping newborns, strap them down to a board that looks not unlike the electric chair (called a “circumstraint”), clamp their unanesthetized foreskins with the sterilized Gomco or Mogen instrument, and cut away the foreskins from the tips of the poor baby penises while they scream bloody murder, turn beet red, and pee in your face. I hated it. It was just awful.

The nurses would line them up, one after the other — then, after wrapping their little post-operative pee-pees in Vaseline gauze, I would deliver them back to their Mommies. The whole time, I wanted to say, “Do you know what you just made me do to your son?”

Before doing the procedure, I always had the Mommy sign a consent form that basically says that this procedure is completely unnecessary, that it’s purely cosmetic, and that the baby might bleed, get infected, or have its penis accidentally lopped off. And they would sign away on the dotted line without blinking. It baffled me.

All in the family

During my residency, I performed at least a thousand circumcisions, many of which left me blubbering like a child because it just broke my heart to have to hurt these poor babies. When I complained about having to do them to my physician father, he said, “I’m so glad nobody ever did that to me.”

Craigslist Is Like the Wal-Mart of Online Sex Trafficking

Tell Craigslist to Make REAL Change in the Adult Services Section of Craigslist!

From Change.Org
By Amanda Kloer

Last night, CNN ran a huge story about child sex trafficking on Craigslist, making them one of the first major news outlets to report child sexual exploitation on the popular website on such a scale. Will coverage from major news outlets finally get Craigslist to respond to the almost 10,000 letters they’ve gotten? Will you add your name to tell Craigslist that America is fed up with story after story after story of young girls forced into prostitution on their site?

As part of an interview with CNN, Andrea Powell of anti-trafficking NGO FAIR Fund compared Craigslist with Walmart. And she couldn’t be more right. Both Craigslist and Walmart get high foot traffic from massive numbers of Americans — Craigslist by at least 50 million Americans a year and Walmart by more. Both cut costs by bringing goods directly to customers, though in Craigslist’s case those “goods” are too often trafficked girls as opposed to cheap crap made in Cambodian sweatshops. And both are now the subject of growing boycotts. But more importantly, Craigslist has become as ubiquitous a place to buy sex with a 12-year-old girl as Walmart has to buy a stainless steel napkin holder at 11:30 at night.

Last month, two young girls sold for sex on Craigslist wrote letters to CEO Jim Buckmaster and Craig Newmark. One of them, M.C. who was first forced into prostitution at 11, told them she was forced to post her own ads to Craigslist during the day, and then answer them at night. Her pimp drove her around the country for years, using Craigslist as the primary means to advertise her. If she didn’t post on Craigslist, M.C.’s pimp would beat her and dunk her in ice water baths. The website was a central figure in the years of slavery and abuse she suffered.

No one from Craigslist has responded to M.C.’s letter.

It is 2010 AD, and the world is on the brink of global disaster. Homo Sapiens has lost its way and is on a war path to destroy the planet, life on Earth, and therefore itself.

Photobucket

We need to know the optimal WAY OF MAN in order to save the planet, life on Earth, and ourselves.

Photobucket

Photobucket

War, conflict and destruction have been integral parts of human history. But out of war has come peace, out of conflict has come harmony, and out of destruction will come the construction of a brave new world. Let’s beginning with the Trojan War in 1185 BC, and see where it leads us:

479 BC – Greek naval victory over Persians at Salamis,
470 BC – 110,000 Greeks defeated 300,000 Persians at Plataea, with 257,000 Persian casualties and only 159 Greek casualties…

Photobucket

During this time period, half a world away, China was undergoing its Spring-and-Autumn period, where internal warfare waged for some three centuries. During the Chou (Zhou) Dynasty (1027-256 BC), the kingdom of Chou gave rise to over 35 supposedly subservient feudal states, which eventually became so powerful that not only did they began warring amongst each other, some even openly challenged the authority of Chou. Thus arose the Warring States period, where the warring states, through alliances and conquests became reduced to 7 major powers (Chai, Chaw, Yeen, Hon, Dsew, Ngai, Chin). These powers escalated the wars to epic proportions, destroyed Chou in 256 BC, and each other, until finally, in the year 221 BC, Chin (Qin) conquered every other state with its iron-clad army (see terra cotta statues), and became the First Empire of China.

Photobucket

Some time during this period, two great Chinese philosophers came to the fore – Lao Tsu (604-? BC) and Confucius (551-479 BC), who were contemporaries in the latter half of the 6th Century BC. But they diverged significantly in their philosophies.

Photobucket

The philosophy was Confucius was anthropocentric, which placed humans on the upper echelons of all things, and the king, said to be the Son of Heaven, sat on the pinnacle of the human hierarchy. Confucius traveled – on foot, on horse back and by carriage – among the warring states, preaching peace and harmony among the states, under the supreme authority of Chou. But given the wartime mentality of the day, his words were by-and-large unheeded, and his efforts by and large in vain.

Photobucket

After his travels, he established his Confucian school of philosophy, which taught three thousand pupils under one roof.

Photobucket

In contrast, Lao Tzu’s philosophy was naturalistic, which placed humanity into the fabric of nature as an integral part of it, rather than being above and apart from it.

Photobucket

Instead of conquering nature, he taught harmonizing with nature, harmony within nature, and going with the natural flow of all things. He invented the term “The Tao” – “The Way of the Cosmos” – about which, in his magnum opus The Tao Teh Ching, he wrote:

Photobucket

“The Way of Man accords to the Way of the Earth;
the Way of the Earth accords to the Way of the Sky;
the Way of the Sky accords to the Way of the Cosmos – The Tao;
and the Tao simply is, according to its own Nature.”

Thus, if Man understands Nature, he would understand the Tao, then the Way of the Sky, then the Way of the Earth, and then the optimal Way of Man.

Photobucket

Unfortunately, the Tao Teh Ching began with the saying: “The Tao that can be conceived and spoken is not the true and eternal Tao.” Thus, the subsequent generations of Taoists suspended all inquiry, and maintained a certain silence, pretending that they knew it. And thus, the great philosophy of Taoism has degenerated, through the ages, into a house of sorcery. But Lao Tzu’s deeper wisdom has remained.

Photobucket

Ma Seeu-Sung was born in China (1944 AD) in the great Age of Science. Science is the study of Nature, based upon the understanding from which the Tao – the Way of the Cosmos – then the Way of the Sky, then the Way of the Earth, and then, the optimal Way of Man, can be conceived, and spoken.

Photobucket

In 1979, the westernized Anthony Marr, a man of science with a physics degree, camped out solo in East Africa in search of purpose and destiny. He returned to his new homeland Canada with a new science-and-logic-based philosophical system known as the OMNISCIENTIFIC COSMOLOGY, a cosmological system based not only on the physical sciences as per the conventional cosmologies, but the biological and social sciences as well, on the premise that life and civilization are as much of integral parts of the Cosmos as the moon and the stars.

Photobucket

In 2003 AD, he published the OMNISCIENTIFIC COSMOLOGY in the form of a book titled OMNI-SCIENCE and the Human Destiny (available at Amazon, and in 2009, he published his videos titled The MEANING OF LIFE according to Anthony Marr.

Professional Laboratory and Research Services (PLRS) Protest Information …

September 14, 2010

UPDATE | July 6, 2011, PETA: Lab Workers Indicted On Felony Cruelty Charges

In a landmark move, a North Carolina grand jury has returned indictments for 14 counts of felony cruelty-to-animals against four individuals, including a supervisor, who worked at Professional Laboratory Research Services (PLRS), which was investigated by PETA last fall. This marks the first time in U.S. history that laboratory workers have faced felony cruelty charges for their abuse of animals in a laboratory and only the second time that experimenters have faced criminal prosecution for cruelty (the first stemmed from PETA’s first undercover investigation, the groundbreaking 1981 Silver Spring monkeys case).

Mary Ramsey—who had been employed as a PLRS supervisor—and Jessica Detty were each indicted on five counts, while Christine Clement and Tracy Small were each indicted on two counts. The accused are among those caught on video kicking, throwing, and dragging dogs; hoisting rabbits by their ears and puppies by their throats; violently slamming cats into cages; and screaming obscenities at terrified animals. One of those named is the worker seen on video trying to rip out a cat’s claws by violently pulling the animal from the fence onto which he or she clung in fear.

The state charges follow extensive citations, by federal officials for serious violations of animal welfare laws, the lab’s closure, and the surrender of nearly 200 dogs and more than 50 cats just a week after we released our findings. We’ll keep you updated on the criminal case as it progresses.

Iran releases American hiker from prison

September 14, 2010
by

From Associated Press

Iran released an American woman on a bail of $500,000 Tuesday more than a year after she was detained, but authorities said they were not considering the immediate release of two companions arrested with her.

The announcement came days after conflicting statements by Iranian authorities on whether Sarah Shourd would be freed as the process was complicated by political feuds among the leadership and questions over how a payment could be made for her freedom without violating international sanctions.

The English-language Press TV reported that Shourd, 32, had been released “on a bail of $500,000” but did not give more details.

Iran’s judiciary, meanwhile, issued a statement saying the “pretrial detention” of the two American men – Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal – has been extended for two more months.

Her family had said it was having difficulty raising the money. However, Tehran’s chief prosecutor Abbas Jafari Dowlatabadi said later that the bail had been paid to an Iranian bank in Muscat, Oman.
