Editor’s Note: In the US vivisectors are required to report on tested animals; however, beyond this industry duplicity, vivisectors are not required to report on the majority of animals used for testing because they are NOT covered by the AWA (Animal Welfare Act) and are thus EXCLUDED from reporting as non-mandatory reporting “subjects”. Furthermore, the AWA, while excluding most animals abused for research, does offer coverage for dead animals. Yes, that’s correct: DEAD animals have “rights” whereas most live ones do not … Furthermore, for those who idiotically and unethically champion that animals are “cared for”, if you insist on such nonsense, offer yourself and then we can debate the ethics of subjecting non-consenting beings to ludicrous, redundant, and cruel testing. And, in 2007 alone, greater than 77,000 animals were denied pain relief based on the theory that introducing pain relief would compromise testing results. (Animal Care Annual Report of Activities, Fiscal Year 2007) I have to wonder, do you demonstrate this much kindness to your family members?
