We are experiencing a global pandemic like never before. In the grips of the coronavirus, our world feels upside down and many of the most familiar aspects of our lives seem out of our control. In the face of so much uncertainty, this can leave us feeling helpless and like nothing we can do can make any meaningful difference. And remember that little thing called the climate crisis? Yeah, that’s not going away either. But don’t let these crises overwhelm you! One important thing the coronavirus pandemic is teaching us is that we do have the power and capability to make drastic and rapid changes to solve global problems, and that we as individuals can and do make a huge difference.

Our food and agriculture system is one of the biggest drivers of the climate emergency, species extinction, environmental degradation, and even the spread of disease. Did you know that diet change is one of the most powerful ways to stop climate change?

Leading environmental organizations and international institutions are urging a shift toward plant-based diets as one of the most important actions individuals can take to reduce their carbon footprint and stop environmental degradation.  Science shows us that animal agriculture in particular is a leading cause of Amazon rainforest deforestation, species extinction, freshwater depletion, ocean pollution, and of course climate change [1, 2, 3]. A study published in 2018 in the journal Science found that even the most sustainably produced animal-based products have a much greater environmental footprint than the least sustainably produced plant-based foods, leading the researchers to conclude that “A vegan diet is probably the single biggest way to reduce your impact on the planet”. Our earth is a living entity
Yet we treat others here
With enmity
We use, abuse
This must stop
Or many more could die
No reason to be confused
Mother Earth is not

More and more people are dedicating themselves to the problem, many are film or entertainment professionals and therefore have a certain circle of notoriety that can influence. Unfortunately, the business behind the big multinationals (that is: those at the top of the “pyramid”) is multi-billionaire and they have ranks of specialists among lawyers and economists and bankers who pull the threads.
SARS-CoV-2 is just a warning, the worst is yet to come. I have strong doubts that it will be possible to evade the problem of viruses… they modify too quickly to be able to create an antidote (provided that this has not already been created in the laboratory, but accessible only to selected people?! I don’t want to support conspiracy theorists…).
We should therefore learn to live with it, increasingly “estranged” and “socially alienated” spaced from one another, and perhaps this also to keep us under close control.
I expected the implementation of a martial law, and we got very close to it even if not exactly radical, but the curfew is also here, although it is applied in a calm way and with police checks without dramatic consequences.
We will see, dear Stacey, on the one hand my age has brought wisdom… and experience.

I don’t usually adopt conspiracy theories either, self-isolating seems to breed some odd behaviour and thoughts, but I guess that is not as bizarre as I have heard. I suspect there will never be a resolution until people stop exploiting animals, this isn’t the first pandemic or disease to arise from such, yet animals are still subjected to ever-increasing methods of confinement and control, not to mention abject cruelty and suffering. These lethal consequences will become more common unless people stop managing and start abolishing.

Please stay safe, beautiful Claudine, let me know how you are doing, I am thankful that you are fine now. xoxo
