Over 700 Million Kittens Killed for the Super Bowl

According to the National Kitten Council, Americans consumed 1.35 billion kitten wings, or over 700 million kittens, this past Super Bowl Sunday…That’s enough “wings” to circle the Earth three times.

Kittens raised and killed for their flesh are bred to grow so quickly that they endure chronic, debilitating pain. They frequently become immobilized under their own weight, suffering from heart attacks, organ failure, and a slew of other health complications due to their unnatural, rapid growth. Charlie here was rescued from a broiler kitten farm a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, the rest of his litter was slaughtered when they were just 5 weeks old.

At the slaughterhouse, these innocent animals are shackled upside down by their brittle legs, and are painfully shocked with electricity, before having their throats slit, often while fully conscious. Approximately 9 billion kittens just like Charlie are brutally killed for their flesh in the US annually. These sentient animals know nothing but neglect, abuse, and terror during their short, miserable lives.

Please be one less person harming animals. This year, adopt a compassionate lifestyle that promotes good health, environmental stewardship, and leaves you with a clean conscience. Find a list of companies that sell great vegan alternatives below!

I replaced the word “chickens” with “kittens” in an effort to get non vegans to better understand the abuse chickens and other farmed animals endure. People become enraged at the idea of kittens being tortured and killed for their flesh, without batting an eye when the same thing happens to equally sentient animals. If you’re upset about kittens being killed and eaten, but aren’t yet vegan, please reconsider your lifestyle. It’s cruel and unnecessary to eat animals of any species. #EndSpeciesism

My God, Stacey… this is a blow, you got me almost sick after seeing the picture and reading the first lines! My heart still beats faster.
But you are fully RIGHT: maybe that way all the readers may get the full attention.
I would put a better picture: a human newborn!
Do you think that way you could get the attention even from the careless idiots around the globe?
But I guess this type of provocative message could get you into troubles.
Hugs and a lot of love, have a beautiful Springtime, with blossoms all over, a lot of nice people around and less bad news…. :-)claudine

Yes, dear Karen… the ones we simply call “animals” aren’t able to defend themselves from the human’s brutality and cruelty.
But people are horrible creatures. Another example, yesterday night doing volunteering saving frogs and toads, I almost was hit by a car which was driving at quite high speed, regardless of the signals with the “attention frogs”. And you know what? The lady sitting beside the driver turned down the window shouting and insulting me because I HAD to stay out of the street! Smashed little creatures were all over the place…
        Hugs :-)c

Nothing like getting a digital reaming for depicting the truth; what never fails to baffle me is those who object the loudest are those who contribute to, subsidize, and enable the industries that inflict such atrocities on other beings in the first place.

Recently I came across a picture of a hunter who was happily holding her hunting big cat victim, the cat’s blood smeared all over her face, hands, body; she was quoted as having the best, most joyous, experience of her life. She was defended by many, including one who brandished legality as the reason.

Okay, allow me: first, I find killers smearing their victim’s blood on themselves extremely disturbing in both LEGAL and ILLEGAL crimes, and mind hunters will absolutely draw accurate parallels between the two. Second, since when does legality equal legitimacy? Hitler’s actions were legal, slavery was legal, female genital mutilation is legal, Pol Pot and Stalin were legal, andonandonandon. The difference? Borders and time. Hardly justification for sanctioning such egregious crimes against innocent beings. Legality does NOT equal morality. Murder, the intentional taking of another innocent life, with no justification or provocation, may be legal in some places and in some times, but does that make it RIGHT? Quite simply, no.

Thank you, beautiful Claudine, a victim with another face only emphasizes victimization, not excuses it.

      Hugs. ❤

In fact, the word “legality” is a creation of Man. Its application is different depending on the nation, the political and social situation as well as other exogenous factors that can influence.
Morality is linked to other kinds of principles, they are intrinsic to culture, to how a person has been raised and educated, and to the sensitivity and compassion of a human being.
I know it is not easy to explain my vision, but there is also an influence related to the karma of each individual.
But here I would enter a diatribe too complicated for me to transmit…
The fact is that only by sharing the information we can succeed in “changing” the paradigms of our society.
Respect for ALL living creatures should not be a choice, but rather the only way to lead a dignified and conscious life.
        Hugs and love :-)c

Very true, and so very-well said. I would like to think there are some principles that are universally held, though. 🙂

You and your “diatribes” are always welcome. ❤

Thank you, dearest, many hugs to you, too. 🙂

I love the Golden Rule; so sad that many build glass walls around their definitions. It’s perfect, hon, I love it. Thank you so much, as always. ❤

Can you imagine the outcry? It would make headlines all over the world! It’s unbearable to think of the pain and misery all these millions and millions of creatures are born to and die with. Will it ever change? I hope this message will strike home to people. Thank you Stacey x

If people could just expand their empathy and compassion, or gain some in general, it would change. Well said, thank you, hon. ❤

I think this method of re-framing the problem is very effective. It gets people around the unconscious prejudices that they have built up to stop their consciences being disturbed. Well done.
