Rodeo Horses need your help!

August 17, 2013
by

UPDATE

The current ban will stay in place. Details HERE.

BACKGROUND

We need your help!  We are having a war here in Las Vegas about changing our Clark County Ordinance which currently BANS horse tripping.  The Ordinance bans the roping or lassoing of horses legs but “they” want to change it because their Super Bowl of Charreada Rodeo is here at the South Point Casino & Hotel at the end of September and they want to be able to rope their legs all day long.

A few emails will only take a few minutes and will make a big difference for the horses!  Please consider sending off a couple of emails.  Even if you don’t live in Las Vegas -they care about the tourist’s opinion also. Pass on to others also.

There will be a County Commission meeting on Aug 20th and we need lots of emails to go to the chair and vice-chair before then.

They voted against any change and you can THANK them but they may be influenced to change their mind.  That is why we need to contact them.

WHOM TO CONTACT

The two members we would like to contact are:

Steve Sisolak – Chair of the Clark Co. Commissioners at: ccdista@clarkcountynv.gov
and Larry Brown, Co-Chair at: ccdistc@clarkcountynv.gov

Group

ccdista@clarkcountynv.gov ; ccdistc@clarkcountynv.gov

SAMPLE COMMENT

Dear Chair Sisolak and Co-Chair Brown,

Thank you for your compassionate stance regarding the ban on horse tripping.  Please note that I, too, am against ANY change in the current county ordinance which bans horse tripping.

Thank you for your attention to this urgent appeal.

dear humans.
we think you should
get a grip.
you would not like it
if you were tripped.
so what is such
a rodeo?
a spectacle of cruelty
where no one should
go!

Thank you. That is SO angering and horrific. I really am ashamed to be part of a species that acts so maliciously. I will add the video to the post, thank you, again.

You are a human angel for sharing and trying to educate people. I have never seen this before looked it up under google. I stopped going to the Rodeo many years ago after a horse broke its neck and was put down. I am still sick that I brought my young children to the Rodeo. This is not what i remember the rodeo being about abuse is abuse. The video does not lie.

I completely agree. I went to the rodeo ONCE when I was about five years old. Even back then I thought it was wrong. I never went back, 😦 The animals are treated with barbarism and speciesism, with no consideration to their innate sentience and capacity to both suffer and feel love, such as human animals. I will never understand or approve. Thank you for your kind words, YOU are an angel. 🙂

Just sent this lemail letter to both addresses & will share with others.

Dear Chair Sisolak and Co-Chair Brown,

RE: Upcoming Rodeo in Las Vegas

Thank you for your compassionate stance regarding the ban on horse tripping.
For the record, we are against any change to the current county ordinance which bans horse
and hopefully calf or bull tripping as well, which we understand is now under review, to
accommodate the interests of the rodeo in September.

We would like to advise you that our family, most of our friends and many colleagues will be
boycotting Las Vegas for all future holidays for as long as this kind of rodeo entertainment
is allowed, and will not take any more gambling vacations unless & until this is banned
forever. It is a cruel and senseless form of “entertainment” causing great distress,
suffering and death to intelligent, sentient beings. There are many other alternate rodeo
“events” where the animals are not so obviously abused and put at needless risk.

Thank you for your stewardship on this issue, and may good common sense continue to prevail.

    Respectfully,

Thank you so much, Cat, it is much appreciated. (Are there non-animal events at the rodeo?)

Your point is well taken Stacey. There should be NO RODEOS PERIOD. But I find, in writing to these people, it is usually more effective to take “baby steps” against a “cowboy mentality” by attacking the worst things first, before demanding a ban of the whole institution altogether. Although I have never supported the rodeo nor animal circus, even as a youngster as far back as I can remember, I could not tolerate seeing ANY animal hurt in any way. Most children recognize abuse when they see or experience it, and most have a natural instinct against it. Too bad though that so many lose touch with their empathy when they become adults & money takes precedence over good sense & common decency.

Thank you Stacey. I’m so glad the Nevada Commissioner watched it this morning. I just know it will help in his decision to ban horse tripping. I feel it in my bones. He knows the book, REZ HORSE, will just fan the flames again and unless he bans horse tripping one and for all, there will be no peace.

Just watching your wonderful trailer brought tears to my eyes! You could see & feel the terrible suffering in just a few short clips. Thank you for not giving up on Biscuit and for making a professional video to educate the world about the horrors of Horse Tripping!! WTH kind of people would design & execute such an archaic, barbaric, illogical & clearly abusive event like this??? It is CRIMINAL by any definition. Animal Rights trump Human Wrongs!!

There was a similar phrase posted in a comment on one of the animal petitions I was signing which resonated with me too Stacey, so please go ahead & use it wherever you like, on behalf of abused animals everywhere.

Thank you Catwhispurrer for watching my video. I sent that same video to the Nevada Commissioner this morning and his secretary said she was going to deliver my email to him before he walks into the courtroom. That means my video will be fresh on his mind when he makes his decision…I’ll be holding my breath awaiting the decisions.

Just wondering when and where we can purchase your book REZ HORSE Catherine? Maybe you could post a link here whenever it is available. I am hopeful too that the Nevada Commissioner will be positively affected by the video & letters pleading the case to put the lives of innocent, intelligent creatures above greedy profits & macho stupidity.

        Hi Catwhispurer (coolest name evERRR),

I’m aiming for 2 – 3 weeks. If this craziness doesn’t get banned, I want to take Biscuit to one of those events and he and I will stand on the road to the entrance of the rodeo grounds and I’ll hold up a big sign that says, “MY HORSE SURVIVED AN EVENT SUCH AS THIS BUT MANY OF HIS FRIENDS DID NOT. PLEASE TURN AROUND AND GO HOME.”

That would be a very powerful (kick-ass) SIGN for rodeo supporters to read Catherine!! If they fail to uphold the ban in Las Vegas, I will there with you and Biscuit in spirit, along with a tweetstorm of others in solidarity against it!! ~^..^~
