Anthony Ryan Huenergardt, of Freeport, is accused of strangling a Rottweiler named Bella with his hands or other body part on May 27, according to arrest report.

Investigators said that a witness reported that Huenergardt admitted to suffocating the dog.

SAMPLE LETTER

Case # 2011CF000478
Defendant: Anthony Huenergardt

Dear Honorable Wells,

I have learned of extremely disturbing and malicious case of animal cruelty in which Mr. Anthony Ryan Huenergardt, case # 2011CF000478,  deliberately caused the suffering and subsequent death of a dog by strangling her to death. I am writing today to encourage you to effectively sentence him to the harshest penalty of animal cruelty; his crime causing unimaginable agony, fear, and death in the dog deserves social justice, not community approval.

When I try to imagine what possible motive animal abusers entertain for subjecting their animal victims to such malicious, heinous acts of brutality, I fail, but I am thankful for a lack of cognitive understanding and rationalization. To voluntarily engage in such malicious behaviour suggests sadistic tendencies, and this Mr. Huenergardt’s actions, causing unmitigated pain and suffering, demonstrates an incontrovertible lack of morality regarding other living beings and a gross disrespect for the law. In fact, a person who shows such a remarkable lack of compassion towards non-human animals has the ability to show such indifference towards human animals. This link between animal and human abuse has been established, and if society excuses Mr. Huenergardt’s criminal behaviour, or agrees to a lesser punishment, we only harm ourselves by unjustly nullifying cruelty as acceptable behaviour.

Please respect the victim by penalizing the guilty; doing so will demonstrate your commitment to justice, responsibility, and integrity, attributes unquestionably necessary in a legal setting: rejecting cruelty by maintaining an unyielding position towards it would be a model for all community members and would serve to characterize this type of behaviour as both impermissible and punishable.

I know your time is limited and I thank you for your attention to this urgent issue.

I agree Karen. Not sure what reference to ‘deck of cards’ means? There is way too much animal abuse and it has to be stopped. The penalties should be severe enough to send a clear message to everyone that animal abuse will not be tolerated. I would support a penalty of doing to them what they did to the animal. They would deserve that punishment. Also, we could hit them where it really hurts. – in their pockets. People seem to respond to losing money. So give them fines of $10,000. That would stop most of them. We have to get serious about the punishment for animal cuelty. It has to make them think twice about committing the crime. We all know that these low-lifes are on their way to being serial killers. It scares me to think of how many people there are that can actually perform these horrible crimes on totally innocent animals. They are cowards for sure or they would not pick on the helpless to make themselves feel like a big man. They are not men, they are just cowards and deserve severe punishment for their crimes. Put them in jail with a huge cell mate named Bubba. See how manly they feel then. I hate animal abusers. Pathetic excuse for humans. They are not human, THEY are the animals and I hope they die and rot in hell with the devil doing to them the same thing they did to the animal, every minute of every day. They make me sick.

    Dear Honorable Kelvin Wells,

Tough laws and sentencing need to be considered for those that abuse animals. If tough laws can not be a deterant for their behavior who is not to say that after these people abuse innocent animals that they will not become bored and start abusing people. Killing animals for the thrill of killing needs to be addressed and stopped. Of course, we both know that tougher punishment will not end all animal abuse but can stop the numbers from being as high as they currently are. A innocent kitten suffered severe abuse and had its little eyes plucked out for the fun of doing it by the young man that adopted this little baby for one reason……to torture. There is a alarming growing number of sick people seeking animals for their own self satisfaction. Not to love but to torture. Please do what you can to make this man pay for his horrible, painful, and heartless crime he committed for his own evil satisfaction. Please protect animals that may come into this mans path by making it impossible for him to ever own a animal or be near animals. Let him know that a second inccidence of this nature will be much worse. Help us create a list like there is for child molestors so that people living close to this man will know to keep their animals safe from him.

    Thank you!!
