From Force Change

Target: The Pennsylvania Legislature

Goal: To ban live pigeon shoots in Pennsylvania, the only U.S. state where this activity is still legal.

Each year countless pigeons are netted and transported from city streets to the gun clubs of Pennsylvania where gun enthusiasts can pay to shoot them. In many cases, pigeons are illegally captured in New York and New Jersey and trafficked across state lines to Pennsylvania. The live pigeon shoot follows the same general concept as a clay pigeon shoot, with one serious exception, live birds rather than clay decoys are launched in the air to be used as targets for a group of waiting shooters who wound more than they kill.

Birds that are injured and recovered are killed by having their necks snapped by children called trapper boys; a practice that serves to teach children that it is acceptable to kill animals for fun. The countless birds that are not recovered are left to suffer a slow death from the wounds inflicted by the shooting. The recovered birds are not used for food or other purposes. They are simply thrown in trash.

For decades compassionate citizens and animal rights groups have come together in an effort to pass legislation that would ban this type of legalized animal cruelty in Pennsylvania but lobbyists for the National Rifle Association continue to use their power to fight these bills. According to The Humane Society of the United States, the Pennsylvania State Legislature is once again considering an amendment attached to a bill that would outlaw live pigeon shoots. The Pennsylvania Senate Judiciary Committee voted in favor of this legislation in April, 2011 but it must also be passed by the full Senate in order to become law. Please show your support for this amendment by signing the petition.

YOU KNOW PIDGEONS ARE VERY INTELLIGENT BEAUTIFUL BIRDS. THEY WERE USED AS MESSENGERS DURING WW2. HOW THE F CAN ANYBODY BE ALLOWED TO SHOOT THEM ? THEY WERE PROBABLY AROUND BEFORE THE HUMANS WERE,THEY HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO LIVE THEIR LIVES AS MUCH AS YOU OR ME. I DESPAIR FOR ANIMALS WHETHER IT BE A BIRD, TIGER, ELEPHANT, DOG/CAT EVERY SPECIES NOW BECAUSE ALL ARE BEING TREATED WITH NO RESPECT, THEY ARE USED,ABUSED,SHOT,POISENED,TRAPPED, SKINNED ALIVE, HUNTED, I CAN GO ON AND ON. ITS ABOUT TIME THE WORLD RECOGNIZED THIS AND DID SOMETHING ABOUT IT. PIDGEONS ARE EVERYWHERE IN THIS WORLD AND LET ME END THIS BY SAYING NOONE OWNS PIDGEONS THEY ARE WILD AND FREE AND NOBODY HAS THE RIGHT TO DECIDE TO SHOOT THEM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pennsylvania has a good old boys mentality when it comes to hunting!
Pigeon shoots are just one more way for Pa rednecks to show what backwoods fools they really are! This is not sport it is a cowardly canned hunt! Cowards and bullies!!!
