BACKGROUND | From IFAW
The government of Canada has authorized the slaughter of 60,000 grey seals for 2011. That amounts to roughly 80% of the grey seal pups born this year, and the first kills are expected to take place in the protected wilderness area of Hay Island, Nova Scotia.
Please urge Nova Scotia’s Minister of Tourism to stop this hunt immediately. Click HERE.

Dear Minister Paris,
I believe that wildlife should be protected and that the government-supported grey seal hunt in Nova Scotia should cease immediately. It is a cruel and unnecessary slaughter unsupported by the majority of the global audience witness to such barbarism. Indeed, there is no economic, scientific, or ethical argument that can support the herding, clubbing, and skinning of defenseless grey seal pups, and there is no scientific evidence that killing grey seals will help fish stocks recover. The government-sanctioned extermination of wildlife is not only a terrible embarrassment for Canada, but off-putting to tourists. The few dollars to be earned by a handful of sealers who conduct this slaughter does not justify the extremely negative image this activity brings to Nova Scotia and to Canada.
Please let me know that your government will support an end to the grey seal hunt in Nova Scotia.

Not only is this cruel beyond words (which damages your international reputation enormously), but it is financially harming your country and your citizens.
All ethical issues set aside, the seal hunt is damaging your cod fishing industry enormously. Please consider the facts,
Seals diet is only 3% cod, and seals actually reduce the population of Squid by 97%. Squid eat cod. So by seals reducing squid and keeping them in balance, it turns out that
THE MORE SEALS THERE ARE, THE MORE CODFISH THERE ARE.
In addition, the Mercury level in Seal meat is through the roof. Would you push this on children and other innocent people for profit, knowing Mercury contributes to a host of serious human illnesses including Cancer and other potentially fatal diseases?
Many, many people are no longer visiting your province as a result of this horrific practice, and the tourism industry has lost much money, which has hurt your citizens. These are all people who would love to see seals alive, benefiting the cod fishing industry, and all of your citizens working in the tourism industry.
Please stop this, I AM BEGGING YOU INFINITELY!!!

So shocking after all these years, that the world has been asking Canada to stop this shocking act of murder. for what reason, nothing more than fur, for fashion. This must stop now. These poor babies deserve the right to live, I can’t imagine the pain they experience, or the sorrow and horror their parents and other seals feel by seeing this horror. Human Kind has disregard.
