Dog Meat Promoted at UK Farmers Markets: Labrador steaks, Beagle chops, leg of Greyhound …

Labrador steaks, leg of Greyhound, Afghan burgers, Dachshund sausages, Beagle chops, Chihuahua poppers…these are just some of the exotic meats being promoted at the new organic and free-range dog meat catering trailer that will set up shop at the edge of farmers markets across the UK.
Featuring pictures of happy healthy dogs running through fields, chasing balls and swimming in streams, and the words ‘organic’ and ‘free-range’, the trailer will be offering dog meat to the public, with the assurance that all the animals were loved and well cared for before being butchered.

…And that’s when the unpleasant truth lying behind Animal Aid’s initiative is spelt out.
Whether organic, free-range, corn-fed or rested on the finest mattresses, at the end of the day it’s all the same for animals farmed for their flesh. They all end up in the same slaughterhouses; they are all alone and terrified; they are all hung upside down by their hind legs and all end up bleeding to death.
Animal Aid has documented routine abuse at slaughterhouses throughout the country, with animals being kicked, stamped on and improperly stunned before having their throats slit.* Our ‘dog meat’ stall will attempt to engage the public in a discussion about the way animals raised for food are killed and why certain animals are deemed unworthy of our compassion while others are treated as part of the family. Stall visitors will also be given free background literature.
Says Campaigner Andrew Butler, who will be manning the dog meat stall:
Most people eat different parts of various animals every day, without thinking too deeply about what those animals’ last moments were like. We hope that this will get people to confront the fact that, at the end of the line, all of these animals died with the smell of blood and fear in their nostrils and terror in their eyes, and yet they are no different from the millions of dogs who we, as a nation, dote on.
The dog meat trailer is making its way around the country, stopping at markets in 12 cities, as part of Animal Aid’s annual Vegan Month promotion. **

- Saturday 13th November – Mansfield Park Farmers Market, Glasgow, 12 noon.
- Monday 15th November – Grainger Market, Newcastle, 12 noon.
- Tuesday 16th November – Kirkgate Market, Leeds, 12 noon.
*Animal Aid has conducted an investigation into seven randomly chosen slaughterhouses throughout the UK. The secret filming revealed animals being kicked, slapped, stamped on, and picked up by fleeces and ears and thrown into stunning pens. Animals were also recorded being improperly stunned and going to the knife while still conscious.

Great campaign!! It’s about time for people to wake up and make the connection! Every animal has the right to live, and to die naturally. If we farmed humans (humanely of course) and then eat them (humane slaughter of course) we would be monsters. Chinese eat dogs= they are monsters. 98% of humans eat cows, pigs, hens etc: WTH are these persons? Eat beans, not beings!

I wonder how many people would search for a shop selling “cage free” dog meat. People never stop amazing me, they want to “try” everything. A friend of mine used to say “if slaughterhouses had glass walls many people would choose the “best” part to buy” 😦

That is probably the most brilliant campaign I’ve ever seen. Of course, people are going to be absolutely incensed that dog meat is being offered. How droll.
It’ll give them a good kick in the pants and hopefully get them rethinking the food on their plates. I’m sharing this one for sure. Chihuahua poppers!LOL!

It’s not real people, they are not really selling dog meat – but it has got the attention of people as far away as Kansas City and China. Interesting slant on meat eating. I eat meat but believe if you don’t have the stomach to kill it, you should not eat it. Hence only game bird, poultry, lamb, the occasional veal cutlet and venison. Beef and pork? No way.

That’s sort of f-ed up, IMO. I’d have issues killing any animal (hence, vegan) but I imagine killing the smaller, weaker ones would be especially difficult, emotionally.
Good job actually reading the article though. The number of people who apparently don’t read before commenting is insane. Hopefully someone will see your post and *read* the article to see what they are talking about!
I’m all for this. Why do dogs/cats/companion animals get so much more respect and consideration from your average person than farmed animals? They all have the same capacity for suffering and the same desire to live free from harm.

i saw this stand today in bristol and stopped to check it out, horrified at the thought of dog meat. the guy offered me a flier, then a “bite”. i said no, and i was getting rather upset. he then asked, “well, would you eat pork or beef?” — and again i said no. i thought he was trying to talk me into the idea that dog meat was actually ok!! …i left in tears!
at no point did he tell me that this was a joke, a commentary of some kind, nor did he engage in any kind of meaningful dialogue with me about animal cruelty or anything like that.
i spent the afternoon in outrage, but simultaneously questioning myself — am i not open minded enough to consider that dog may be ok to eat? — but wait, dogs are pets and maybe for some cultures they can eat dog, but ours is not a dog-eating culture. (and much more along this line).i went around telling everyone how someone was trying to sell dog meat.
i’ve been totally duped…this campaign is slightly skewed somehow. they’ve ended up angering people who don’t eat meat to start with, by not being very up-front about what exactly was going on.

You won’t be missed … to blame your contribution to animal torture and murder on a campaign is your pathetic rationalization to further be complicit in such. What utter idiocy, that’s like saying you won’t support a starving child because you don’t like Sally Struthers. “Oh, so sorry, I really DO care about the mutilated and slaughtered animals and want to diminish my contribution to such, but I cannot because I didn’t like a pamphlet …” Translated, that is, “I am such a degenerate suck having to blame OTHERS for my weakness and lack of empathy.”

Look at the usual promotion for pork, chicken, etc. Same thing just with different animals. This is satire and is intended to awake people who love their cats and care so much for their dogs, but do not hesitate to eat other dead animals. So, don’t get upset too much. I really had to laugh when I saw the pictures. But, on the other hand, I would not have the courage to drive that car, or sit in it while at a market …

Unbalanced? Just the opposite! The purpose of this campaign is to shock, and make people think. Beside reading till the end, instead of stopping at the headline. It’s not a joke because killing is never a joke, it’s a brilliant wake up call! Animals suffer and die every fu**ing day because 6 billion humans think it’s ok to abuse and kill them! But most of them are hypocrites and think it’s ok to eat some animals and pet some others.
And you supposed vegetarian who prefer to go on killing, you should be ashamed of yourself: you don’t go vegan just because of this campaign? Kudos, animals thank you for your strong committment. No, you won’t be missed, animals deserve better

This doesn’t work for those meat eaters who see an animal as an animal. I thought this was a brilliant idea until I found out it was a joke. Personally, I don’t understand how someone who eats one type of meat can say that eating a different type is cruel. I’d happily eat any kind of meat.
