All four actions summarized in the first four points, details for each below.

  • 1. Please Help Cats and Ferrets Used in Training at St. Louis Hospital, sign and send automatic message HERE
  • 2. Please Tell the Department of Energy to Save Monkeys from NASA’s Cruelty HERE
  • 3. Help Stop Indian Bio Tech Company From Conducting Experiments on Animals in Malaysia by sending an automatic message HERE
  • 4. Company Injects Deadly Bacteria Into Hamsters, please send message of protest HERE

All actions from PETA

1. Please Help Cats and Ferrets Used in Training at St. Louis Hospital, sign and send automatic message HERE

(Putting your subject line and letter into your own words will help draw attention to your e-mail.)

St. Louis Children’s Hospital still uses cats and ferrets for intubation training exercises in its Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) course despite the course’s inherent cruelty and the availability of manikins and advanced simulators that have proved to be superior to the use of animals. During the exercises, plastic tubes are repeatedly forced down animals’ windpipes. This procedure can cause bleeding, swelling, pain, scarring, collapsed lungs, and even death.

The American Heart Association, which sponsors the PALS training course, has stated that it “does not require or endorse the use of animals in PALS courses” and that “the AHA recommends that any hands-on intubation training for the AHA PALS course be performed on lifelike human manikins.” PETA has surveyed hundreds of PALS facilities across the country, and nearly every one of them uses non-animal methods for intubation training. Research shows that in addition to saving animals, these simulation methods better prepare medical professionals to treat seriously ill or injured children because they more accurately replicate human anatomy and allow people to practice these skills repeatedly. One of the original developers of the PALS course has even stated that she is “adamantly opposed to the use of live or even dead animals in the American Heart Association PALS curriculum.”

Please contact St. Louis Children’s Hospital officials and urge them to replace the use of animals in the course with one of the many effective, non-animal training methods that are available.

2. Please Tell the Department of Energy to Save Monkeys from NASA’s Cruelty HERE

(Putting your subject line and letter into your own words will help draw attention to your e-mail.)

New York’s Brookhaven National Laboratory—which operates under the authority of the U.S. Department of Energy (DoE)—is currently considering accepting taxpayer money from NASA to blast up to 30 squirrel monkeys with a harmful dose of space radiation. The monkeys would then be sent to Harvard’s McLean Hospital, where they would be subjected to years of behavioral experiments to observe the damage that the radiation causes to their brains and bodies. Additionally, NASA may use them for more experiments in the future!

In the past, similar experiments have caused these sensitive, intelligent animals to develop cataracts, cognitive deficits, brain tumors, and other serious illnesses.

Luckily, modern in vitro and clinical research methods can be used to study the effects of space radiation on the human body.

Please contact Dr. William Brinkman in the DoE’s Department of Science and politely ask him to take immediate action to permanently halt all plans to expose monkeys to radiation at Brookhaven National Laboratory HERE

(It indicates Dr. Brinkman of Dept. of Science, but the auto confirm comes from the office of Steven Chu, Secretary of Energy.)

3. Help Stop Indian Bio Tech Company From Conducting Experiments on Animals in Malaysia by sending an automatic message HERE

(Putting your subject line and letter into your own words will help draw attention to your e-mail.)

Vivo Bio Tech Ltd., an Indian Bio Technology company, plans to build a $140 million animal testing facility in Malaysia—where there are no laws to protect animals in laboratories. The company would then ship beagles and monkeys to the laboratory for experiments; these animals would be condemned to lives of pain, loneliness, misery, and death with no government oversight to monitor their use. The animals could be burned, cut open, shocked, poisoned, socially isolated, starved, dehydrated, forcibly restrained, addicted to drugs, brain-damaged, and more.

Please contact Vivo Bio Tech Ltd. and urge it to halt all plans to conduct or fund animal experiments in Malaysia immediately HERE.

4. Company Injects Deadly Bacteria Into Hamsters, please send message of protest HERE

Even though a modern, humane non-animal method has been approved by the U.S. government for more than four years, the Colorado Serum Company (CSC) continues to use thousands of hamsters for leptospirosis vaccine potency tests.

In the test used for leptospirosis vaccines, hamsters are injected with the live bacteria that cause this disease. This experiment, which can last up to five weeks, causes hamsters to experience such painful conditions as blood poisoning and kidney damage before dying—and all without receiving any pain relief.

Since 2006, the CSC has killed more than 1,800 hamsters in these painful tests that end in death for all hamsters involved. Shockingly, the CSC appears not even to have done a literature search for a replacement test, which is required by the Animal Welfare Act. Instead, the CSC apparently just copied and pasted outdated information to support its incorrect claim that there were no alternatives to the use of animals.

PETA has therefore filed a complaint with the government requesting an investigation into the CSC’s apparent violations of the Animal Welfare Act.

Please take a moment to contact the Colorado Serum Company and politely insist that it take the simple step of ending its use of the archaic and inhumane hamster test HERE.

If labs, universities etc, keep receiving grant money to fund these experiments they will continue the sad and sick part of this is they breed animals there so no one knows about it and they have animals on hand all the time. including pound seizures in Michigan, they sell cats and dogs to research for money thats insane too. Most times these experiments have already been done and dont need to be just so they can get more money, they are also invasive and painful. I believe death row prisoners that are going to die should give their bodies and sick minds to research at leasts its a human body not animals that makes more sense and what about life prisoners killed someone in cold blood use them and pedophiles and free up jails and prisons for the next one just like animals in shelters kill them to make room for another one not those prisoners tho no way. Sad to know that our Government in this year of 2010 would alllow such horrific things to happen to animals. no compassion at all. Very cold.

Please stop this cruel treatment on animals, maybe we should test on you instead ! What makes you think you have the right ! Because you can ? HOW can you sleep at night ? Your just fooling yourself if you don’t think this is wrong. ANIMALS – feel pain and hurt just like humans. May you rot in Hell !
