Tribe of Heart ~ Peaceable Kingdom: The Journey Home, The Witness
“Apathy can only be overcome by enthusiasm, and enthusiasm can only be aroused by two things: first, an ideal which takes the imagination by storm, and second, a definite intelligible plan for carrying that ideal into practice.”
~Arnold Toynbee, Historian
From Tribe of Heart, Peaceable Kingdom
A riveting story of transformation and healing, PEACEABLE KINGDOM: THE JOURNEY HOME explores the awakening conscience of several people who grew up in traditional farming culture and who have now come to question the basic premises of their inherited way of life. Presented through a woven tapestry of memories, music, and breathtaking accounts of life-altering moments, the film provides insight into the farmers’ sometimes amazing connections with the animals under their care, while also making clear the complex web of social, psychological and economic forces that have led them to their present dilemma. Interwoven with the farmers’ stories is the dramatic animal rescue work of a newly-trained humane police officer whose sense of justice puts her at odds with the law she is charged to uphold.
With strikingly honest interviews and rare footage demonstrating the emotional lives and intense family bonds of animals most often viewed as living commodities, this groundbreaking documentary shatters stereotypical notions of farmers, farm life, and perhaps most surprisingly, farm animals themselves.

In the award-winning documentary THE WITNESS, Eddie Lama explains how he feared and avoided animals for most of his life, until the love of a kitten opened his heart, inspiring him to rescue abandoned animals and bring his message of compassion to the streets of New York. With humor and sincerity, Eddie tells the story of his remarkable change in consciousness: The Witness

What a coincidence! I just emailed these folks (tribe of heart) this am asking for information on their DVD’s. But more so than buying them, films like this, and Food Inc, need to be shown on national TV. Until then WE must utilize our networking technology. Post these trailer clips to our facebook pages, send in emails, and get our teens and younger generations to watch and share them.
My cause is urban wildlife, but farm animal abuse is closely related. The last few generations have seen domestic animals move towards protection against cruelty. We recognize the sentience in THESE animals while we ignore Biology 101 that all mammals are wired the same!? Our cat or dog being stuck in a steel crushing trap, caged in filth for months for its urine until it is skinned, slowly tortured…utterly unacceptable. But it happens to millions of animals that feel NO less pain than Fluffy or Fido would. Please don’t forget about our wild animals that are grossly exploited.
I live with a silly raccoon that was captive bred for her fur. She snuggles under my chin every night and is beyond intelligent and affectionate. Wild animals are different, but our society never allows such traits to be attributed to them. What if they did? (there goes their hunting business) If the public knew an 1/8 of it we would not allow the exploitation. Dog fighting and puppy mills have different names in the wildlife industry, but they exist in more horrific magnitudes than you want to imagine.
