Urge Ottawa, Ontario, to Reject Cruel Killing of Beavers

BACKGROUND | SOURCE PETA

Reportedly, the city of Ottawa, Ontario, is again considering using traps to cruelly kill beavers at Lindsay Pond Park. The city recently made the compassionate decision to explore humane beaver control methods, but now it’s apparently backing away from that.

Body-gripping, steel-jaw, and snare traps are horribly cruel. Animals suffocate when the traps clamp down on their necks, or they drown (which can take up to 15 minutes, all the while experiencing extreme terror and pain) when traps pin them underwater. Panicked animals trapped in shallow water can also drown, and many victims attempt to chew themselves free.

Beavers can be humanely controlled using flow pipe and fence devices. These devices keep beavers out of areas where they are unwanted and encourage them to live elsewhere. Please politely ask Ottawa to ditch the cruel use of traps entirely, and then forward this message widely!

SAMPLE LETTER

Dear Officials,

It has come to my attention that Ottawa is considering using traps to cruelly kill beavers at Lindsay Pond Park.

It would be unfortunate, but until this barbarism is appropriately addressed including a mandatory ban of such, I and others will collectively boycott resulting in the sacrifice of vital tourism and commerce profits. Please act responsibly and with compassion and choose to protect, rather than sanction harm, to animals.

Thank you for taking the time to read this urgent appeal.

I’ve always thought that the Canadian Government is very cruel, regarding it’s yearly, wicked and totally unnecessary seal massacre (even ‘though it knows the rest of the world does not agree with it)…..so I am not in the least surprised at its’ cruelty towards even more wildlife…..someone needs to tell this arrogant Government that we do NOT own these beautiful creatures so they are NOT ours to destroy….neither do we need to own or dictate what goes on with every scrap of land….there is plenty to be shared, so please leave our beautiful wildlife alone and get some decent Animal Welfare in place

Hi Gerry Sue, I’m with you too. On all counts! Yes, our gov’t is arrogant, self-centered , cruel and ILLEGAL. That they went from a heart to cruelty, suffering and pschycotic behaviour is a concern for the true majority of Canadians. Citizens globally watching our actions are in horror or the foolhardy, immaturity of this nasty bunch. Looks like we had best all put our support on having the top cronies arrested for treason and numerous crimes against the nation, environment, democracy, future health and economy of Canada and the sad state of affairs towards all earth mates. When they return in September, say “YES” to the arrest and incarceration of these criminals. In the meantime what if one of these nightmare traps gets someone’s child? Their pet? ‘Oops. Sorry,’ will not do it.

This isso cruel, I HATE any kind of animal abuse or cruelty and hunting, however i think trapping is the cruelest of cruelties! A beaver would be lucky to drown if you consider the alternative of being caught in that trap for days left to starve and dehydrate to death! I DONT think either way is acceptable! I sent the emails to hopefully help stop this horrible trapping i also shared on several sites! Thanks again Stacey, You truly are the best! I appreciate all the time it takes you to find all this information and even providing letter samples and email addresses you ROCK STACEY!!!!

Thank you, hon! I haven’t received that notification, so maybe we’re being blocked now versus when I sent mine. It means that we have sent so many, the addressee has blocked our newer ones as spam, so that is kinda a good thing! Thanks ever so much, as always!
