Please Urge U.S. Capitol to Halt the Use of Glue Traps: Sample Letter

December 20, 2011
by

BACKGROUND

Architect of the Capitol, the agency in charge of maintenance for U.S. government offices, reportedly uses glue traps for rodent control! Glue traps are some of the cruelest products on the market, causing immense and prolonged suffering. Exhausted and terrified, victims die from shock, dehydration, asphyxiation, or blood loss, and death can take days! Victims often rip themselves to pieces in a frantic struggle to escape the sticky mess. Also, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) warns against using glue traps because of disease risks posed by the many pathogens in the waste of ensnared rodents. PETA implored the agency to consider methods that were less cruel, didn’t pose health risks, and didn’t put such a heavy burden on U.S. taxpayers (glue traps are horribly cost-prohibitive!), but apparently to no avail. Your voice is needed!

Please urge Architect of the Capitol to join the many government agencies that have sworn off glue traps. And forward this alert widely!

SAMPLE LETTER

Dear Officers Merdon and Malecki,

I have just learned of your agency’s, Architect of the Capitol, use of glue traps to capture and kill mice. Killing the mice using glue traps to do so is an extremely painful and fearfully agonizing experience for animals. These animals are further traumatized trying to free themselves, causing skinning, tearing, ripping, and dismemberment, a profoundly agonizing ritual of attempting to escape for hours upon hours; death sometimes can take days.

This also proves medically dangerous to humans considering that, according to the CDC, glue traps create optimal conditions to spread disease. I would hope any organization that shares a core principle of human health and quality of life, such as yours, would be equally concerned with any disease-spreading forms of rodent control. Interestingly, many government agencies have already discontinued the use of glue traps due to their cruelty and exorbitant cost.

Please consider, instead, using humane traps to capture and release mice in an ethical and painless manner. These can be found at hardware stores and local animal rescue groups, who would be willing to assist you.

Thank you for your time and attention to this important issue.

i am a little mouse
stuck in a trap
i cannot move forward
i cannot go back
my legs are hurting
i am hungry and scared
i cannot get out
so i go nowhere
i am pulling so hard
my skin is worn
my body broken
as i die,
slowly and forlorn

    Dear Officers Merdon and Malecki,

And trying to free a mouse trapped in glue is a very without risking breaking small fraggile bones or riping skin off a poor helpless creature. Please help stop glue traps from being sold and used. Please support humane set and free mouse traps. Thank you for your time.
