New E.U. law could slow down horse slaughter in Canada and Mexico.

From The Persian Horse Blog

New regulations requiring horses destined for federal slaughter plants to have paperwork documenting illnesses and medication for the previous six months have recently come into law.

A European Union requirement to document all health treatments for horses destined to be sold as meat came unexpectedly in April 2009 and Canada and other horse meat exporters countries were told to have identification in place within a year reports the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. Canada, Mexico, New Zealand, Australia and South America export horse meat to Europe and are expected to comply. European Union Inspectors are expected to monitor Canadian plants this fall to make sure they are in compliance.

The new documentation required for each horse called “The Equine Identification Document “, requires the name of the animal, land location or premise identification number, horse’s markings, colour, pedigree, picture of the animal and a history of drugs or vaccinations given to the animal within the last six month.

A 1200 lb horse that would normally sell for 40 cents per lb would bring $480; the same horse without paperwork would probably sell for $100 because the horse would then have to spend six months in a feedlot to be able to be eligible for the correct paperwork.. An estimated 125,000 horses are slaughtered annually in Canada with the meat destined for the European market where for many it is considered a dietary staple.

Chaotic Cruelty in Canadian Slaughter House

it is time for
man to learn
a policy other than scorch
and burn
man needs to learn that
bloodshed only
accomplishes such
no problems are solved
by this evil crutch
upon which man
has too long relied
when humane methods
should have been tried
although the past
one cannot negate
the future is out
there
and it is not
too late

WHY do innocent animals ALWAYS have to be hunted/treated cruelly/killed, because of mans’ ever increasing lust for greed and power. These horses (as with many other creatures), COULD live a full life quite happily, with the size of the wilderness in the US…BUT they are ALWAYS denied these simple and natural pleasures, because the “powers that be” say so, and greedy, arrogant men want to get their hands on as much of the wilderness as possible…denying it to its’ rightful owners….the animals who lived there for hundreds of years, before man even set foot on the land.Killing these animals is very wrong as they are not ours to kill…..likewise the beautiful wolves and every other creature that man has to interfere with until there’s hardly a creature left. The wise amongst us KNOW that there WILL be payback for the guilty….I just hope that future generations can forgive these evil men for robbing them of their heritage of the many wonderful wild and wonderful creatures THEY decided to destroy.

We all need to have more respect for all living creatures. Laws punishes for cruelty on
human beings, but where is law when it comes to creatures that cannot raise their voice
to protect themselves????????? The world would sure make a change if we could at least “try”to
have some compassion for those who are helpless and depend on our criteria to save themselves.

My horse lived with me until he was 27,,,3 months ago he got sick and I humanely put him down,,,I was with him until the end…this video made me sick,,the suffering these beautiful creatures went through makes me want to shoot the shooter the same way and watch him suffer. Y0u sick bastard,,,I hope you don’t own animals or hunt…you can’t shoot worth a damn..I hope you lose your job. Any horse owner who wants to get rid of their horse this way should never be allowed to own an animal of any kind.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
