Please speak out! Philly Newspaper issues front cover to Michael Vick calling him “Top Dog”

September 24, 2010
by

From Passion for Animal Causes on Facebook

Advocates, I am wholly outraged at the cover of the Philadelphia Daily News today declaring Michael Vick the “Top Dog” of anything. What Michael Vick did is not something to joke about and declaring him Top Dog is insulting to the dogs first and foremost while trivializing the entire situation. I was sadly disappointed that a man could perpetrate such violence against the wonderful breed, the pit bull, but to then be able to resume and be given a life of privilege and luxury just because he can play a sport is wholly immoral. Since when did the NFL become the National Felons League? Please take a moment of your time to politely tell this paper how insensitive and inappropriate its headline is in light of the acts of pure violence and evil this man perpetrated on many wonderful dogs.

Go to the following link to leave your feedback on what you think about the Philadelphia Daily New’s TOP DOG, Michael Vick:

Here is a sample of what you can submit, but please use only as guidance – it is too long for the electronic comment field, so please use your own words; you will also need to verify your human status by entering the quoted text as well, thank you.

Dear Newspaper Conglomerate:

I am writing regarding the front cover of the Philadelphia Daily News (coincidentally named “the people’s paper”) September 22, 2010, edition portraying the humongous and obnoxious print “TOP DOG” in reference to Michael Vick. It is irresponsible for you to trivialize Michael Vick’s brutal history with dogs, and referring to him as “top dog” is insulting to all who do not consider dogs as products, weapons, or disposable objects.

Do you understand what Michael Vick did to these animals? The American Pit Bull terrier is one of the most loyal breeds of dogs and will do almost anything to please their human companions. Michael Vick asked these dogs to kill each other. He used weaker and less-fit dogs as bait to encourage strength in the “fighting” dogs. He coaxed and forced them to fight each other relentlessly and maliciously; he then disposed of them in various torturous ways, including electrocution, when he determined he could no longer “use” them.

Were you aware that he had all the teeth pulled from a female so that she could not attack other dogs? She was strapped to a rape machine so other dogs would forcibly mate with her – all for a continuous cycle of puppies to brutally train to fight or to be used as bait. How would you care to be imprisoned, forced into depraved and brutal conditions, only to be murdered when your use had expired?

The level of insensitivity you have demonstrated is baffling, and we ask that you RETRACT this headline and issue a formal apology, not buried on page nine in the corner, but on the front page of this paper. Whoever authorized Michael Vick as “TOP DOG” should be ashamed: to diminish the hideous nature of dog fighting and the suffering of “man’s best friend” to sensationalize a common thug and criminal whose only accomplishment is that he can play a game is unethical and shameful. Please don’t endorse degenerate monsters but rather establish your commitment to integrity and honesty by remembering that the tortured and murdered dogs are the victims, and that their captor, tormentor, and murderer, Michael Vick, is undeserving of glory and awe, but merits contempt and exposure.

Sincerely,

Off the Chain is an unprecedented look into the underground world of dog fighting. Beginning with a history of the American Pit Bull Terrier, the film explores the evolution of the breed. Classic film and television footage show the popularity of what was once considered a noble and trustworthy family pet. Examine how this breed went from America’s dog to public enemy number one. Travel to the back alleys and dark corners of the inner city to expose the truth behind the breed’s new status in pop culture; an urban symbol for violence, aggression and gang-life. The first documentary of it’s kind; director Bobby J. Brown spent three years infiltrating the underground subculture of pit-bull fighting. Gaining the trust of well established dog men, they allowed him to film behind their dangerous veil of secrecy.

Yet another example of the defective male brain (due to testosterone) via the editor of this newspaper who here demonstrates that men find violence amusing; a good source for a “punned” joke; a dismissive view of horribly intentional cruelty.
Yup! folks. That’s what this is when you refuse to use the, protect their egos at all cost, modes of analysis. This editor here shows how even “educated” men stand by their man vav violence cause they enjoy violence so much. Yup! that’s what we have here.

Vick is worthless. He should have been banned from pro football for life…He is nothing but garbage. A fitting job for him would be a garbage man. I cant believe people are not booing him out of the stadium…What is wrong with the people in Philly?? I have never liked the Eagles but I loathe them now with the piece of crap Vick on their team…Eagles suck, worse than ever now…No class team with a no class qb!!!!!

The guy is rehabilitated. Give me a break. He has served his time in jail and has been an advocate for animal rights since joining the Philladelphia Eagles. In addition he is conducting himself very humblely in lifght of his excellent performanc at quarteerback for the Eagles. The guy is changed – let him have his days of glory

Interestingly, serial killers and pedophiles all claim the same, but it isn’t socially acceptable to allow a “reformed” pedophile as spokesperson for a national child daycare operation or a serial killer on the board of a women’s shelter. And, really, Ted Bundy acted VERY humbly when appealing for his life. It’s important to remember that the VICTIMS have been tortured and murdered and the ones who were rescued are scarred, emotionally and physically, for life, and they aren’t cheering Vick; I save my sympathy for them. I hope THEY get the breaks that that sociopathic monster VICK didn’t extend.

It’s also important to remember Nietzsche and that abyss …

I agree. To honor a convicted felon in such a way is heinous. Calling him “top dog” is insulting to America but especially to the innocent dogs tortured and killed by this monster. He should get a huge dose of his own medicine. He’s vile.

The only reason that I can see you would be defending this piece of garbage is that….you, yourself are a promoter of dog-fighting for sport! Outrageous on so many levels. At no time will it be acceptable to view this issue in a flippant manner. Time does not take away the level of depravity of his actions and as much as his “fans” and the sports industry would like to forget. Obviously, the NFL chose money over morals, Vick is making working again and earning money and lots of it. I think it shows a deplorable lack of principle but there it is. But that does not license to all those on the side lines to conduct themselves with equal depravity. A new low in an already disgracefully base crime.

Any human who tortures or mistreats or neglects an animal causing pain and suffering, dismemberment and/or death, participates in authorized or un-authorized research, with or without federal funding, withholds food & water and/or medical care is guilty of animal cruelty, an offense punishable to the absolute maximum permitted by law. This newspaper issue is a TRAVESTY.

Micheal Vick is trash, to say the least! Whether or not he’s ” a changed man”, doesn’t really matter now, he’s already done the damage. Even if people want to at least forgive him, he should not be touted as “top-dog” on ANY headline, anywhere! That is disgusting & unacceptable. Too bad humans can’t be rehabilitated as well as dogs, I would easily trust one of his former dogs over him. I’m just happy the dogs got a second chance to know love, gentleness, & find forever homes.

How is it that an icon in severe animal abuse, neglect and cruelty is now a hero? Why is the human race so corrupted that we cannot see the mistake? Since what Mr. Vick did is ok with the general public, why is it not ok that he’s tied to a short chain, with no food or water, and beaten? Because they were just dogs?

It is an absolutely amazing testament to the integrity and beauty of God that 47 out of 50 of these tormented creatures were able to forgive the atrocities that had been bestowed upon them, and are golden companions to their new families.

Michael Vick should be in prison not playing football. I hope foot ball fans will boycott his games until the NFL gets rid of him. Further more why is he getting press? Start contacting newspapers and magazines telling them you will not buy them and that you are contacting their advertisers as well. Hit them in the wallet and it may stop them from giving that piece of garbage any more press. Money is the way to stop this idot. BOYCOTT!!!!!!!!
