STOP THE MULE HIGH-DIVING SHOW

From News of the World

Two mules are forced to make terrifying high-dives into a tank of water in the name of entertainment.

Crowds cheer as the helpless creatures, called Smokey and Dipsy Doodle, are sent plunging from a 22ft high platform into the 6ft deep pool.

Billed as the world’s only high-diving mule show, it is the climax of a rodeo in the tiny ranch town of Pipe Creek, near San Antonio, Texas.

The animals’ ordeal will horrify readers. But the show’s boss Bill Rivers claims they ENJOY it. He said: “If they didn’t like it, they wouldn’t do it.”

Their Aqua Mules act draws crowds of 300 at a time. The beasts, a cross between a donkey and a pony, are brought out to perform after a two-hour rodeo featuring sheep-riding kids and cowboys.

Lightning Ranch owner and rodeo organiser Bill leads them to their splash one at a time. Dipsy Doodle, the brown mule, always goes first.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

As the crowd, paying six dollars a head, bray, they are made to climb a steep ramp, flanked by the American and Texas flags.

They are clearly hesitant on the flimsy-looking structure. Smokey in particular will inspect the scene for up to 30 seconds. Then, like a scene from TV’s Jackass, comes the shameful sight as each mule, legs splayed, dives awkwardly head-first to hit the water with an almighty splash.

Incredibly local cops have ruled that the act is NOT cruel. And Bill, who has trained animals for movies including Ace Ventura, says the stubborn animals have done the jump thousands of times and like it.

But TV vet Dr Scott Miller, a regular on ITV1’s This Morning, said yesterday: “This is animal cruelty. It’s ridiculous.

“Lobbing themselves off a 22ft high platform and going underwater is totally unnatural to them. The potential for injury to these animals is massive.”

This was shown on the TMZ TV show by staffer Max Hodges as a laugh.
Max is a hunter who has gone to Georgia to “drink beer and shoot”
as posted on his facebook wall.
Figures Mr Hodges would post something like this.
Imagine more tourists will stop by to see the poor mules in action!
Same TV show that said the gulf Pelicans soaked in oil should be barbqued!
HSUS oversees animal actors in Hollywood movies, would have had to approve any Ace Ventura stunts.
Maybe they should be consulted about the Texas mules.

THIS IS ANIMAL CRUELTY…….This must be stopped before these mules break their necks or legs. Contacting USHS and PETA now. These people are crazy and should not be allowed to own animals. It is clear that the mule is scared to death. It would be more fun the use a cattle prod on the owner and make him crawl up the incline and jump into a 4 foot deep pool. I would drive that far to see that.

I just can’t get the mentality of anyone who would enjoy this?

Anyone who enjoys this sort of perversion needs serious medical help or a bullet in the head – whatever’s cheapest…

Why do humans find it necessary to use animals for entertainment? Bill Rivers claims these animals LIKE it??? Notice the hesitation. Here’s poor Smokey up there, scared to death b/c he can’t turn around, nor can he back down the ramp. He has no CHOICE but to go forward. You can tell he doesn’t want to – that’s obvious. It’s dangerous, frightening and should be outlawed. One of these days the mule is going to break his neck. 6′ of water is not very deep is it? How unnatural is that…and he LIKES it. Bull!

This is despicable. What is wrong with people who think this is a cool thing to watch? Do they really believe these animals want or enjoy this? The people making the animals do this are only supplying something horrific that apparently is in demand by sick or ignorant individuals.

You guys are a bunch of idiots. I was around when Bill’s dad had the diving mules and I can tell you that these mules are not abused. They liked diving off into that tank. I was around the Rivers for 4 years and never heard of one of their mules getting hurt diving off the ramp. The only mules they train are mules that like the water. If i had thought that any of their animals were being abused I would not have been around the Rivers. They love their animals and the animals love them.
