“Blood Still on the Wire” exposes grim reality of snaring in Scotland, please send one automatic message

I attempt to watch this footage and am horrified at the gross disrespect for life as well as the abject depravity involved in such hideous “sports”. It is a mockery to compassion and humanity to even consider “regulation” of such industries and fanciful-wishing using solicitous rhetoric of “guaranteed no suffering”, “ending suffering”, etc. In what universe are such ludicrous notions embraced? You cannot regulate KILLING, if you think that is even remotely possible, apply the same “standards” and protocols to the thought of doing the same to human animals without the associated horror of such indecent assertions. Impossible.

Then WHY is it okay for non-human animals? Because we CAN? Not good enough, animals value their lives as humans value theirs, and they don’t observe “principles” that wreak havoc and death on other species in accordance with judicious claims of kindness and absent suffering, which is nothing but absolutely treacherous disingenuity imparted to benefit one species: humans, and not the ones who so cruelly, bloodily, and evilly are murdered.

Please read the report and watch the footage and sign the petition. And if you could if relevant, please post a comment indicating whether the petition link did not work; LACS includes a time-out rule in their actions that may invalidate links. Thank you. SR

From League Against Cruel Sports

The League Against Cruel Sports has released shocking new evidence exposing the horrific suffering inflicted by snares and other traps to animals on shooting estates in Scotland.

A graphic film and report, both titled ‘Blood Still on the Wire’ are being released to coincide with the start of the grouse shooting season. The ‘Glorious Twelfth’ traditionally celebrates the first day of shooting but the League is using this to highlight the terrible suffering caused by snares on estates rearing game birds for shooting.

Both the film and report document how the recently introduced Snaring (Scotland) Order 2010 has done very little to eradicate the threat snares pose to the welfare of animals. League investigators visited a number of estates in Scotland between May and July this year as part of wider investigations to expose the reality of the shooting industry.

Among the worst findings is footage of a live badger, found struggling, injured and exhausted after being trapped in a snare on land used for shooting near Roxburgh in the Borders. The Scottish SPCA was able to treat the animal’s injuries, which was later released back into the wild, but as the film and report show, many other animals are not so lucky.

League spokeswoman Louise Robertson said: “The League has said over and over again that regulating snaring will not solve any problems and yet despite new, supposed stricter regulations, our investigators have found countless examples of unacceptable suffering. The only way to prevent animals suffering horrific injuries and slow, painful deaths is for a complete ban on all snares in Scotland. It’s time the Scottish Government listened to public opinion and addressed the problem rather than continuing with these farcical regulations”.

The League Against Cruel Sports has released graphic footage showing the extent of suffering inflicted on game birds used on commercial shoots.

The short film, ‘A Good Shot?’ is being released today to coincide with the start of the grouse shooting season. The Glorious Twelfth traditionally celebrates the first day of shooting but the League is using this to expose the reality of commercial shooting away from the spin and propaganda peddled by the industry.

Grim footage, possibly the first of its kind to be released, shows game birds frantically flapping and struggling after being wounded by inaccurate shooters. This completely contradicts claims by the industry that most birds are killed outright and if not are immediately retrieved by gun dogs and dispatched. Our film shows a number of birds flailing wildly in obvious pain while shooters carry on, ignoring the suffering they have caused.

League Chief Executive Douglas Batchelor said: “This new footage clearly shows the total disregard shooters have for the welfare of the birds they are shooting. It is a complete contradiction in terms to label any blood sport as being humane and the pro shooting lobby will have a hard time defending their sport now. The Glorious Twelfth is nothing more than the glorification of killing for fun and that is certainly not a message anyone should be promoting”.
