The Toxic Chemicals Safety Act, H.R. 5820, is designed to overhaul the 34-year-old Toxic Substances Control Act, which regulates how chemicals are tested and managed. This bill will require more chemical testing and will lead to vastly increased suffering on the part of beagles and all other animals in laboratories.

Toxicity testing of chemicals still relies heavily on the use of animals, yet even the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) now realizes that animal tests do not provide the most useful information for regulating chemicals. The EPA has largely adopted the approach outlined in the National Academy of Sciences report Toxicity Testing in the 21st Century: A Vision and a Strategy. The NAS report outlines a strategy for moving away from animal testing toward cell-based and molecular approaches. These new non-animal methods allow thousands of chemicals and mixtures to be tested in a short period of time—which is not possible to do using animals.

While the proposed legislation incorporates some policy and scientific reforms recommended by PETA to reduce and replace the use of animals in chemical testing, it does not go far enough in reducing the large numbers of animals who will be killed.

Please take a few moments to send a polite e-mail to your Congressional representative asking him or her to ensure that the Toxic Chemicals Safety Act offers true public health protection that does not rely on crude and cruel animal tests.

There is absolutely NO REASON to test this way!!! This is barbaric and used to fill the pockets of greedy, heartless corporations. If companies would do the “right” thing, their businesses would be successful the “right” way! This is WRONG and needs to STOP!!! How can people actually sleep at night, knowing, doing, seeing the evil they do? So SICK!!! SO STOP! PLEASE!!!

Please find alternative methods of testing. One in which does not involve animals of any sort. Science is sadly destroying the world. Before there was science there were clear skies, wild animals living free.. nature. Now there’s global warming, pollution and this.. animal abuse. All trying to crown themselves the new God of nature for power, money and a certificate to say ‘Look at me, how great am I”. Says alot about your own needful nature. Truth be told, everyone else thinks you suck. Leave the animals alone. Respect to the companies trying alternative methods and leaving animals in peace to live without pain or unjust suffering. Never too late to change though.
