Every year, millions of Australian sheep are crammed onto multilevel, open-decked ships bound for ports in the Middle East and North Africa. When they arrive, they are dragged to shore as if they were sacks of coal, and their throats are cut while they are still conscious.

Australian sheep and cattle are kicked, beaten, and dragged off boats by their ears and legs and are left to die in barren feedlots. They are bound up and thrown into the trunks of cars, and they are slaughtered in prolonged and cruel ways that are illegal in the United States, Europe, and Australia.

The truth is Australia does not need to send ANY live animal to the Middle East, Aus already sends huge amounts of chilled meat over there and many Middle Eastern people are happy to accept it, the reason we send live animals is because there are also many Middle Eastern people who like to see the fear in an animals eyes before, during and after they have violently cut its throat, the Australian Government is well aware that this trade is a brutal one however it’s all about keeping farmers votes, nothing more nothing less. Also Aus farmers couldn’t care less how their animals are treated or they would not send live animals to the Middle East. I have spoken to so many farmers who live export and they truly believe it must be done, it’s a lie it could stop anytime….many Aus slaughterhouses have closed down in due to the live export trade….this truly this Australias shame…

It is also very important for everyone to know that an enormous amount of wool sheep are sent to the Middle East, once Australian farmers have no use for them here and they get too old to produce good wool, they put them on ships to the ME…..Also a huge number of dairy cows are also sent to the Middle East from Australia, same deal with sheep, once dairy farmers have milked every last drop from their dairy cows they send them live to the Middle East and other Countries such as Asia and Mexico, also to make the issue even more sinister and disturbing sheep and cattel are actually bred from birth to go live to the Middle East……

Hi, Lance, thanks much for your message. It’s still live, it’s legitimate, the transportation is still occurring. On the page where it indicates 2006, that was when the footage was recorded. Toward the bottom of that associated page it indicates PM Kevin Rudd, who wasn’t PM until December 2007. And, on the first link with the automatic letter, the target is Julia Gillard, PM, and she was just sworn in a couple days ago. I hope that made sense.

There are other ways to make a living. Oh yes there are ! These animals have their right to living a good life too ! God put them on this earth to provide wool when they are shaved.. But they need good food and water and good care for them to give you a good return, but what you do is totally disgracefull ! and if you can’t see it which your actions show you don’t.. Then perhaps you need to think of where you are going when you die. ! For the actions you do here on earth ! May God have mercy on your soul. YOU NEED IT ! otherwise STOP WHAT YOU DO NOW! Shalam, their is a proper way to kill a sheep and that is with a bolt gun and shoot them in their forhead. That instantly kills them. Why do you have to eat meat anyhow why don’t you go to a vegetarian diet you will live longer and be skinnier, and be at peace with the lord. The way your doing it you will only burn in the depths of hell for eternity go vegetarian.

Until now the focus of the cruel live export has been on what
happens enroute and at destination. But what about what happens
BEFORE the animals leave the shores of Australia? In Western
Australia from where approx. 80% of all sheep are exported live,
there has not been 1 animal welfare inspection portside over the last 12 months by the State Animal Welfare Unit Inspectorate who are empowered with the state animal welfare legislation.
This means the live exporters, farmers and Liberal Government have
successfully ensured absolute protectionism of live export.
This should be sending chills down the spines of every person who
professes to care about animals. Over 2 million sheep and cattle
plus goats have been exported live in the last 12 months from WA and not one animal has been inspected by a State AWU Inspector (they are the LEAD agency for animal welfare).
WHY?
Because the Liberal Government has DESTROYED the Inspectorate- the 1 inspector left cannot keep up with the massive animal cruelty workload let alone get to the port. The Inspectorate have been told their priority lay with administration- not in the field animal
protection and prevention of cruelty.
Further, thousands of sheep are bought for live export through saleyards- again NOT one State Animal Welfare Unit Inspector has been to a saleyard in over 12 months.
There is no way the Liberal Government or industry can claim the animals have been treated according to the State Animal Welfare Act or export regulations when they are unable to control what the industry does and when there are no State Animal Welfare Unit
Inspectors to prevent cruelty.
For anyone buying WA meat in AU and overseas- you are buying meat from an animal which may have endured pain, suffering and cruelty.
