Passing mandatory spay/neuter laws
To Whom It Concerns,
I am writing to you today to express my support to pass mandatory spay/neuter legislation. This potential and vital legislation is supported by numerous organizations, shelters, state-run agencies, and constituents frustrated and angry with current practices. Although I am aware that current protocols include killing via euthanasia, it is important to recognize that this is not only an unacceptable suggestion to decrease cat and dog populations, but it is also extremely inhumane and opposed by the majority of people. Honestly, disguising this procedure as an acceptable and societal-approved “euthanasia” designation only provides benefit to humans: euthanasia is only a euphemistic definition for the reality of the deliberate and cruel killing of animals.
Please allow me to elaborate, and with profound sadness and anger illustrate the sanctioned killing of millions of animals every year in the United States. It is no secret that our nation has an epidemic of vast proportions; indeed, if you have difficulty comprehending such an immense loss of life, you are not alone: ten million dogs and cats will meet this premature and unjustified end; our country shelters and pounds have met a maximum limit and regrettably have to make this cruel and grievous decision as mandated by laws established by apathetic and greedy legalities. When there are few foster and permanent homes for placement of these homeless animals, how does one make the heartbreaking decision to rescue one animal yet kill another? This is not an easy decision, free of guilt and grief. Instead, this is an incredibly distressing choice, and we all bear this indignation that befalls our companion friends who deserve that we instead recognize the importance of life over the deliberate taking of such.
Disturbingly enough, however, despite the combined efforts of committed and dedicated people, animals are still being intentionally killed. As such, it would be a vital and progressive step enact legislation mandating companion animal spay/neuter programs to address, not the homeless population, but rather the KILLED population. Passage of this important legislation will also provide financially-advantageous consequences. The state of California extends an exorbitant sum of money for “euthanasia” procedures, money that could instead be judiciously allocated to a responsible and ethical program addressing this issue in a proactive and humane manner. Indeed, implementation of this type of law would prove beneficial to both humans and companion animals by significantly reducing the numbers of unadoptable and homeless animals. It gives me no pleasure to designate our companion friends as unadopable or homeless, but, regrettably enough, these monikers have been established to illustrate the unethical euthanasia situation.
Please recognize that this type of legislation would not only be a pivotal, humane response to a human-manufactured validation of the mass slaughter of companion animals, but it would also provide favorable financial consequences as well; passage of mandatory microchipping would also prove beneficial by providing every possible measure available to locate and save lost companion animals. Indeed, until such a time when animals are no longer deliberately killed due to human-designed parameters, we must practice in a responsible and empathetic manner and mandate spay/neuter requirements as well as other life-saving measures.
I know your time is limited, and, as such, I thank you greatly for your consideration and attention.
