HighestWelfare.Humane.Assured.GoodPractices.Vegetarian. Regenerative.Flexitarian.Lies...

What is the difference between No Welfare, High Welfare, and Highest Welfare when they all require animals to die? Only human comfort, NONE protect the actual animals. The most humane, ethical, and honest Webster-defined "welfare" is NOT exploiting animals - not using, not wearing, not eating, not killing - animals. The only meaningful position is vegan, everything else is just how humans euphemize animals' required suffering and violent deaths: no human exploits animals because they honestly believe that NOT exploiting animals is UNethical or INhumane.

It has been seven days since I took a leap of faith and found myself, just a simple pig from New Jersey, the center of international attention.

People keep asking me what my name is, which is funny because in my old life no one but my mother ever showed interest in calling me by name.  They tell me that the tag in my ear says 303, but I know that is not who I am.

The people here are calling me Porky, and I know from the way that they say it that they mean it affectionately, but that is not my name, either.  My mother had a wonderful name for me, but it has been so long since I have seen her that I can’t quite remember it.  It slides onto the tip of my tongue every once in a while, but  before I can get it out…

Judge won’t block Idaho wolf, coyote-killing competition

By Laura Zuckerman

SALMON, Idaho (Reuters) – A federal judge on Friday denied a request by conservation groups to block a weekend hunting competition in Idaho targeting wolves and coyotes, condemned by wildlife advocates as an inhumane “killing contest.”

Organizers of the so-called coyote and wolf derby plan to kick off the event on Saturday, with two-person teams fanning out into national forest land around the town of Salmon in the mountains of east-central Idaho.

The event has drawn staunch opposition from conservationists who claim the tournament is cruel and unsportsmanlike and sets a chilling precedent by inviting children as young as 10 to participate.

But some ranchers and outfitters in Idaho see the competition as a recreational form of wildlife management aimed at reducing the number of nuisance predators threatening livestock and big game like elk that are prized by hunters.

The tournament comes two years after wolves in the region were taken off the U.S. endangered species list. But this weekend’s derby is believed to be the first competitive wolf hunt anywhere in the continental United States in decades.

WildEarth Guardians and other conservation groups filed a lawsuit on Monday in U.S. District Court in Idaho claiming the U.S. Forest Service had failed to properly permit the event and asked a judge to enjoin the contest until federal land managers had a chance to assess its potential impact.

But U.S. Magistrate Judge Candy Dale ruled on Friday afternoon that the hunt was not a commercial enterprise requiring a special-use permit, handing down her opinion just hours before registration.
Advertise

Dale likened the contest to other noncommercial recreational activities such as camping and picnicking that take place on national forests and do not require a special permit.

“While plaintiffs and others may find the concept of a derby and prizes being awarded for the killing of animals repugnant, hunting is a lawful activity in Idaho,” Dale said in the ruling.

She said any commercial aspects of the derby – including collection of registration fees, awarding of prizes and trade with fur buyers for wolves and coyotes killed as part of the contest – will take place at a private business in Salmon and not on Salmon-Challis National Forest lands.

Steve Alder, head of Idaho for Wildlife, a nonprofit that pledges to fight attempts by “animal-rights and anti-gun organizations” to restrict hunting or firearms, hailed the decision as a victory for sportsmen.

“We just can’t have activist judges, and we just have to keep Idaho for what it is,” he said. Alder said he has cautioned participants not to make a show of the wolves and coyotes they kill, and is banning cameras when carcasses are weighed and measured to determine the winners.

“I’m telling my guys, ‘Hunt your wolves and shut up,'” he said.

Bethany Cotton, wildlife program manager for WildEarth Guardians, vowed to continue the legal fight to force federal land managers to require special use permits for such competitions.

“The decision suggests fishing derbies on public lands need permits, but wolf massacres don’t – which is ludicrous,” she said. “We will keep trying to protect native carnivores just like the public expects.”

Salmon-Challis National Forest Supervisor Chuck Mark said the judge’s ruling on the derby does not necessarily open the way for more such events on public lands without triggering a review.

“Each and every event proposal will be looked at on its own merits,” he said.

A Look Inside the Angora Rabbit Fur Industry

December 28, 2013

Source PETA

After watching this video, you’ll never buy angora again.

The undercover footage, shot by PETA Asia, found horrific routine cruelty to angora rabbits, whose long, soft fur is often used in sweaters and accessories. The investigator filmed workers who were violently ripping the fur from the animals’ sensitive skin as they screamed at the top of their lungs in pain. After this terrifying and barbaric ordeal, which the rabbits endure every three months, many of them appeared to go into shock, lying motionless inside their tiny, filthy cages, with no solid flooring or bedding, and without the vital companionship of other rabbits. After two to five years, those who have survived are hung upside down, their throats are slit, and their bodies are sold.

Rabbits who have their fur cut or sheared also suffer: During the cutting process, their front and back legs are tightly tethered—a terrifying experience for any prey animal—and the sharp cutting tools inevitably wound them as they struggle desperately to escape.

Ninety percent of angora fur comes from China, where there are no penalties for abuse of animals on farms and no standards to regulate the treatment of the animals. When you buy a sweater, hat, or other product that contains angora, the angora fur most likely originated in China, even if the finished product was assembled elsewhere.

Rabbits are gentle, socially complex, and intelligent animals with individual personalities, just like dogs and cats. In their natural habitat, rabbits live in scrupulously clean burrows and spend their time foraging for fresh, leafy food and interacting with members of their warren.

How You Can Help Rabbits

Please leave angora rabbit fur out of your wardrobe and politely urge the Chinese government to ban cruel live plucking of rabbits raised for angora fur by sending a note to China’s Ambassador to the U.S., His Excellency Cui Tiankai.

Captain Paul Watson’s Message to Patriarch Duck Dunce

December 27, 2013
by
Wikimedia Commons

Source Exposing the Big Game as taken from Captain Watson’s facebook page

My Message to the Patriarch Duck Dunce, from one so-called reality TV star to another:

Captain Paul Watson of Animal Planet’s Whale Wars sends a message to Phil Robertson of A&E’s Duck Dynasty.

Dear Phil,

I am confused. How can you equate homosexuality with bestiality? You’re hardly in a position to say such a thing when your business is manufacturing duck mating calls that essentially declare that you want to fuck a duck.

You are flirting with bestiality, Phil.

You not only seduce defenseless, innocent ducks, you kill them when they approach you. Sort of reminds me of Ted Bundy.

You are also seducing ducks through fraudulent behavior. Essentially, you are lying to the ducks. And you’re peddling duck seduction devices in a quack-pot scheme to enrich yourself on the suffering and death of hundreds of thousands of innocent ducks.

I picked up a copy of the New Testament to see what Jesus Christ, or any of the disciples, had to say about gay men and women. Incredibly I discovered that they never said anything at all about homosexuality. Jesus did however condemn the rich, and you, Phil Robertson, are rich, and I also do recall something in the tablets that Moses brought down from the mountain about not killing. It did not say thou shall not kill other human beings, it said, “Thou shall not kill.”

It seems to me that Jesus would have been more compassionate towards a gay man than to a rich man. So I think that Jesus would be more comfortable listening to Elton John than hearing your shotguns dropping his Father’s children from the sky.

Now I know that it’s common for some Christians to cite Leviticus, but if you believe Leviticus, you need to go all the way, selling daughters into slavery, and smiting and stoning and hating everyone that believes in something different than you do. But then, again, I may be wrong but I recall that Jesus Christ came with a new message – one of love and forgiveness, compassion and kindness.

I can’t see Jesus defending war nor can I see him denying help to the poor. Nor can I see him spewing hatred for gays.

True, Christianity can be a very beautiful thing – when practiced, but unfortunately it is rarely practiced.

As for going to hell, Phil, everyone goes to hell because if you do not believe in the Catholic faith you will go to Catholic hell, and likewise, Catholics will go to Protestant hell. From the way the various denominations have laid claim on heaven and hell everyone is going to someone’s hell.

But what I really don’t get is this. Why do people, and especially so-called Christians get all upset about gay people? How does gay marriage affect them? Why do they make it their business to interfere with the happiness of other people? Why does this threaten some people?

I mean, Phil, how does gay marriage get in the way of you murdering ducks for dollars?

They certainly are not out there in the swamp gunning down what you consider your ducks and cracking red-neck jokes. There is simply no Godly reason they should be annoying you, Phil unless, well, unless you have had some inclination towards temptation in that particular direction of choice, Phil, and you are feeling guilty about your unspoken desires.

And as for freedom of speech, well, by all means you are free to have your bigoted opinions and no one is denying that. Your problem is that you broadcasted your bigoted opinions on television, and as such you must suffer the opinions of people who disagree with you and find your opinions to be vile and hateful.

A &E simply exercised their right to express their disagreement with your bigoted views. All those people you are saying are intolerant of your right to free speech are simply expressing their free speech to denounce your hateful rhetoric.

Of course you have Sarah Palin defending you. Good luck with that, Phil.

Do you think that if I were to make racist statements about the Japanese that Animal Planet would not take me off the air? Of course they would, and they would be right to do so. Our fight is with whalers who happen to be Japanese. Sometimes they are Norwegians. The point is we don’t condemn anyone on racial or cultural grounds and racism should never be tolerated, especially on the airwaves.

Phil, I don’t like you. It’s not because you’re white, supposedly Christian, or seemingly heterosexual, or that you have a strange and violent sexual relationship with ducks. I don’t like you because you’re a bigot and I don’t like you for murdering ducks.

The bottom line is you exercised your right to free speech and now you are suffering the consequences. The Constitution guarantees your right to free speech, it does not guarantee your right to not be held responsible for what you say.

You are free to continue making bigoted and hateful comments. No one is going to toss you into jail for it. That is what it means by freedom of speech.

You are, however, dreaming if you think that what you say does not have consequences. Enjoy your freedom of speech because you are going to have to pay for it – with consequences.

Oh, and by the way, stop seducing and murdering ducks.

I’ll leave you with a little song I heard from a little girl the other day:

“Be kind to your animal friends,
For a duck may be somebody’s mother”

Yea, I know that is way beyond your comprehension of empathy, but I’m sure, Phil, that if you repent for your sins of bigotry and lust for ducks that Jesus will forgive you.

Something truly wonderful: Photographer and his dogs save a frozen baby squirrel

December 24, 2013

Source Cottage Life
By Jeb Roberts

Earlier this year, when photographer Nick Radford was taking pictures in a wooded area near his California home, he discovered an abandoned baby squirrel that was starving, dehydrated, and half frozen.

Fearing that a vet would euthanize the tiny animal, he brought it home, where he and his wife nursed it back to health by constructing a makeshift heated nest and feeding it formula from a special syringe.

Even before the tiny squirrel’s eyes opened, Nick took the bold step of introducing it to his two dogs so they could get used to their new guest. Maverick, half Australian cattle dog and half border collie, and Scout, an Australian shepherd, were immediately smitten with their visitor, and they kept a constant watch over their new charge.

Though he was initially concerned about the squirrel’s safety around the dogs, he was floored by how gentle they were with their new friend. “They are gentle and nice to him because I am,” he told the Reddit community, where he first posted the pictures below. “They know that they’re to follow my lead.”

As the pictures show, the newly named Apple Moonbeam and the two dogs became fast friends. ”They lick him non-stop,” he said. “I don’t know if it’s an instinct thing or a confusion thing.”

Now that the squirrel is growing, Nick’s next challenge is to try to reintroduce it to the wild. He hopes to start by using an open cage in his yard, where the squirrel will be able to find food but also come and go as it pleases.

Help End the Elephant Genocide

Please click HERE to take action (this is for US only)

If African elephants ever needed your voice, it is now. During the time you take to read this alert, at least one elephant will be killed by poachers…one elephant every 15 minutes!

Some estimates put numbers of remaining African elephants as low as 400,000 individuals. With 25,000 elephants killed for their tusks in 2011 alone, and at least four elephants poached every hour, they may be heading into extinction within the next decade!

Elephant families depend on their matriarch’s experience and incredible amount of knowledge and memory of the vast landscape to find food, water holes and shelter. Elephants have a highly complex social structure, where death is mourned and grieved, and the birth of each baby elephant causes a social gathering of excited members within and outside the immediate elephant families.

In elephant culture, not only numbers matter, but the quality of relationships is meaningful and they too need to be preserved!

The USA is the second largest consumer of ivory, closely trailing China. The US Government has the power to make a huge difference for African elephants. They need to show political will and we need to show them that we expect strong and urgent action.

Your action to help African elephants is needed today—right now…

Please sign our alert which will send a letter to the Federal Advisory Council on Wildlife Trafficking, which will meet on Monday, December 16, 2013, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Washington D.C., to discuss the National Strategy to Combat Wildlife Trafficking.

20 Cats Found Tortured, Burned and Murdered

Please click HERE to sign petition asking for harshest penalty

Background, Source Care2
By

Warning: this is the most sickening story of cruelty to animals that I have ever written about.

Last Friday, police in Santa Fe, Texas raided a house with the intention of finding drugs. They succeeded: during the search of the home of 39-year-old Brain Cheek and his 38-year-old wife Veronica Springer, investigators found roughly nine grams of crystal methamphetamine, a scale for measuring the drugs, packaging materials for sales and a stolen all-terrain vehicle (ATV) valued at $14,000.

That wasn’t all they found.

From WebProNews:

Unfortunately, as the search went on, investigators later found a grueling and morbid discovery: 20 dead cats, ranging from kittens to fully grown mature cats. Police stated that the dead cats had all appeared to undergo various forms of torture before their demise.

Investigators stated that there was evidence of blunt force trauma, disemboweling, strangulation, and burning as well as evidence of cats being burned. One of the murdered felines was found in a box in the bed of Cheek’s truck.

Galveston County Sheriff’s Office Animal Cruelty investigators picked up the remains of many of the cats which will be later examined by necropsy, thus finding out the actual causes of the cats’ death.

So far, Cheek has been charged with the first-degree felony of manufacturing and delivering controlled substances, and is being held on a $300,000 bond, while Springer has been charged with possession of controlled substances and her bond set at $20,000.

As the investigation continues, felony charges related to animal cruelty are expected to be imposed on the couple who committed such heinous acts.

Of course, animal cruelty charges must be brought against these disgusting human beings.

Earlier this year, I wrote about a deadly dog camp in Sky City, a remote area of southern California, about 20 miles from Palm Springs.  The “dog killing fields” belonged to a woman living in a makeshift hut under a tarp, with no running water and no electricity. She was arrested, and the camp eventually shut down, but it’s likely that several hundred dogs died during the 17 years she ran her camp.

You don’t have to look far to find horrifying stories of animal abuse.

Last month Heaven, a pit bull puppy, was brought to Shrewsbury Animal Hospital in Tinton Falls, New Jersey; she was emaciated, dehydrated, suffering from skin infections and burns from laying in her own urine, and unable to stand. She had been kept tethered to a pole in a basement, with no food or water.

In this case, the 19-year-old owner of the ironically-named Heaven was sentenced to 90 days in jail after pleading guilty to two criminal charges: failure to provide sustenance and veterinary care for Heaven. In addition, he will be placed on probation for two years and perform 30 hours community service.

Why do people treat animals so disgustingly?

Violent acts toward animals have long been recognized as indicators of a dangerous psychopathy that does not confine itself to animal abuse. There is a mounting body of evidence about the link between such acts and serious crimes such as illegal firearms possession, drug trafficking, gambling, spousal and child abuse, rape and homicide.

But recognizing the links between animal abuse and people abuse does not solve the problem of cruelty to animals, although thankfully 47 states now have felony provisions for animal cruelty. (Those without are Idaho, North Dakota and South Dakota.)

What Brian Cheek and Veronica Springer did to those cats was sickening. If you believe that Cheek and Springer should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law for their heinous acts of cruelty, please sign our petition demanding the maximum penalty for these horrific animal abusers.

Cheers erupt as judge denies alleged dog abuser bail

Source Examiner

Emotions ran high in court on Thursday as an alleged dog abuser stood before a judge in the Norfolk Superior Court to see if he would be granted bail, reported Friday’s Boston Herald.

The individual appearing before Judge Susan Garsh was Radoslaw Czerkawski, the Polish native who is accused of sadistically torturing a young dog who has come to be known as “Puppy Doe.”

Judge Garsh denied Czerkawski bail, much to the relief and delight of the animal lovers who stood in the same room with the alleged dog abuser.

Czerkawski was arraigned on 12 charges of animal cruelty and one charge of misleading police; charges which stemmed from the alleged torture and abuse of Puppy Doe, who was discovered in Quincy, Mass., in late August.

Puppy Doe was alive when she was initially found, but her injuries were so severe that she had to be euthanized. The young pit bull had been starved, beaten and stabbed; her abuse was described as “sadistic.”

In late September, the necropsy results on the tortured dog were released; the findings confirmed that Puppy Doe had endured ongoing, extensive abuse. Czerkawski is believed to have obtained his young canine victim through Craigslist.

Czerkawski, who the judge felt would be a flight risk, is due back in court on Feb. 11.

Two petitions, one second appeal regarding wolf and coyote “contest”

December 20, 2013

1. Click HERE to protest Idaho’s wicked coyote and wolf “derby”

2. Click HERE to tell Groupon to end SeaWorld ‘deal’

1. Background, Source Center for Biological Diversity

Just two years ago, gray wolves lost federal protection in Idaho. Since then 859 of these beautiful animals have been killed in aggressive, sometimes brutal hunting and trapping seasons. And now the state wants to take the carnage a step further: This holiday season Idaho is allowing a privately sponsored wolf and coyote “derby.”

Just after Christmas, on Dec. 28 and 29, Idaho will host a cruel contest where hunters will compete to see who can kill the biggest wolf and bag the most wolves and coyotes over the weekend. This derby is hosted by an Idaho sportsmen’s group and approved by the state.

As if these disgusting contests weren’t bad enough, a hired gunman’s being paid to hole up in a taxpayer-funded cabin until he slaughters two entire wolf families residing in the national forest. The U.S. Forest Service gave him permission to be on public lands for the hunt, and he’s funded by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game ostensibly because killing these wolves could boost the elk population for human hunters.

Take urgent action now to contact Idaho agency heads, elected officials and business leaders to express your outrage over the planned wolf- and coyote-killing contest and oppose the hired wolf-killing gunman in Idaho’s wilderness area.

2. Background, Source PETA

It’s a fact: Life at SeaWorld is hell for whales, dolphins, and other marine animals who are kept imprisoned there day after day, year after year.

Since the release of Blackfish—which led eight musical acts, including Willie Nelson and the Barenaked Ladies, to cancel their SeaWorld concerts—tens of thousands of compassionate people like you and even several publications, including the Los Angeles Times, have spoken out against the cruel abusement park.

SeaWorld knows that its days are numbered. In a last-ditch effort to increase attendance (by slashing ticket prices), the marine park has partnered with Groupon.

Unless Groupon wants to be associated with a delusional company that imprisons orcas in small concrete pools for their entire lives, the company needs to end this deal immediately.

Please contact Groupon and urge it to cancel this deal right away!

Background

Regarding your upcoming show “Amazing America with Sarah Palin”: America has already been “amazed” by Sarah Palin, her lack of compassion, and her complete relish of the animals she kills with unabashed fervor!

Palin has taken advantage of her half-governesship by glamorizing the killing of iconic wolves from aircraft. As half-governor she offered a bounty for every left, front wolf paw surrendered; the wolf is a necessary predator for a healthy ecosystem. She lobbied for years to get the endangered polar bear kicked off of the Endangered Species List — despite the impossible challenges facing the polar bear to even survive — loss of habitat, starvation, and drownings. She failed at her attempts to doom the polar bear in the USA, so she continues to trophy hunt in Canada.

Her last attempt at exploiting animals with a show on TLC “Sarah Palin’s Alaska” evoked criticism from many including distinquished writer Aaron Sorkin, who labeled her actions “jaw-dropping mean”. The show was not renewed after just one season — so why are you, at InterMedia Outdoors, going to repeat history and subject the public to more of the offensive, cavalier disregard for animals and viewers, by allowing this callous woman air time?

We the signed, will boycott all of the sponsors of “Amazing America with Sarah Palin” and we will give them all written notification of our intent.

Rudolph’s Christmas Wish

December 18, 2013
by

Source CAPS

In December, children all around the country sit down to write their Christmas lists for Santa Claus in the hope that, on Christmas morning, their wishes will come true and their stockings will be brimming with toys and trinkets. And each year on Christmas Eve these gifts are said to be delivered by the man himself, as he travels the world on a magic sleigh pulled by flying reindeer.

What do you think Santa’s reindeer might ask for if they were given one wish this Christmas?

Each year, as Christmas approaches, event organisers around the country begin to advertise live reindeer parades and shows. Often held in shopping centres, these animals which are perfectly adapted to live in huge herds in the cold arctic and sub arctic regions of the world are transported up and down the country to be placed in small pens under glaring lights, surrounded by people and noise for days on end. We believe that if Rudolph had a wish, it would be to stop the use of his friends in this way.

Often borne out of ignorance, when businesses planning live reindeer events are politely contacted by members of the public, they often make the right decision and commit to ensure that their Christmas celebrations do not feature live animals. This Christmas, we hope to spread the message far and wide to ensure that Rudolph’s wish comes true and we make these events a thing of the past.

And it’s not just reindeer. Penguins have also been used in the past by businesses for similar purposes. Please help us to ensure that Christmas this year is full of fun and free of animal exploitation.

A formal report compiled for Government by the Farm Animal Welfare Council (FAWC) in July 2013[1] stated:

“There have been a number of reports of ill thrift and death in these animals due to poor management and their special dietary and environmental requirements. Reindeer are out with FAWC’s remit because they are not farmed but we strongly suggest their welfare should be considered further by the Government as they are particularly likely to be kept by inexperienced owners for commercial reasons”.

Christmas is still weeks away but events are planned well in advance so the time to act is now. Please help us to make Rudolph’s Christmas Wish come true by getting involved today!

What You Can Do

  1. Make the pledge here that you will not attend any events which use live animals this Christmas.
  2. Contact CAPS by emailing info@captiveanimals.org if you see a reindeer (or other animal) event advertised near you or if you are aware of a venue that has used animals in this way in previous years. This will help us to contact businesses and work with them to ensure that live animals do not form part of their plans.
  3. If you find out about an event near you, use our template email to ask the venue to reconsider.
  4. Ensure that you follow CAPS on Facebook and Twitter and look out for “Reindeer Action Alerts” which will be announced when we need you to take action by writing to companies who persist in using animals in their events.
  5. Businesses using reindeer in events will be featured on our interactive map. Please check back regularly and contact new additions to raise concerns.
  6. Share this campaign page and video with friends.

Help Stop “Coyote & Wolf Derby” in Salmon, Idaho

December 17, 2013
by
Project Coyote

Project Coyote

BACKGROUND | SOURCE PROJECT COYOTE

Please join Project Coyote in protest of an indefensible coyote and wolf killing “derby” ironically scheduled on the 40th anniversary of the passage of the Endangered Species Act, our nation’s safety-net for wildlife, that brought wolves back from the brink of extinction. It is imperative that everyone speak out against this atrocity scheduled in just two weeks. Time is ctitical.

This is not hunting but a gratuitous massacre that is legal in Idaho and across the country. Prizes will be offered to contestants who kill the largest wolf and the most female coyotes. Children as young as 10 are encouraged to compete, with prizes being offered to youth from the ages of 10-14.

These competitions are ethically indefensible and ecologically reckless, as well as a public safety risk, as shooters fan out across the landscape, trying to shoot large numbers of coyotes and wolves.

Specific details about the contest hunt:

What: “1st Annual 2 Day Coyote & Wolf Derby” brough to you by Idaho for Wildlife, Salmon Chapter, Sportsman Group
Where: Salmon, Idaho
When: Dec. 28th & 29th, 2013

A wolf tag can be purchased for as little as $11.75, permitting each hunter to shoot 4 to 10 wolves (depending on region). 154 wolves have been killed in Idaho since hunting season opened on August 30th. Idaho is showing the nation what happens to wolves following the removal of federal protections under the Endangered Species Act.

SAMPLE LETTER | COURTESY OF PROJECT COYOTE

These are talking points (please personalize your letter and if you recreate in Idaho please mention this):

Dear  Director Moore, Commissioner Naillon,  Chairman Barowsky, Governor Otter,  Executive Director Hermosillo, Executive Director May,

I have just read a gravely concerning alert regarding a vicious coyote and wolf killing “derby”, and I am writing to voice my opposition to such a barbaric “game”, especially since children are involved learning troubling lessons that animals are not sentient or entitled to not be tragically hunted and viciously killed.  Please allow me this opportunity to share a few points.

Technology, baiting, and “calling” place wildlife at an even greater and unfair disadvantage. Killing predators, or any wild animal, as part of a ‘contest’ or ‘derby’ is ethically indefensible and ecologically reckless.

Bloodsport contests are conducted for profit, entertainment, prizes and, simply, for the “fun” of killing. No evidence exists showing that predator killing contests control problem animals or serve any beneficial management function. Coyote populations that are not exploited (that is hunted, trapped, or controlled by other means), form stable “extended family” social structures that naturally limit overall coyote populations through defense of territory and the suppression of breeding by subordinate female members of the family group.

The importance of wolves, coyotes, and other predators in maintaining order, stability, and productivity in ecosystems has been well-documented in peer-reviewed scientific literature. Coyotes provide myriad ecosystem services that benefit humans including their control of smaller predators, rodents, and jackrabbits, which compete with domestic livestock for available forage. As apex predators wolves increase biodiversity and ecological integrity.

With fewer than 700 wolves in Idaho and poaching a common problem, allowing a killing contest of a species just off the endangered species list is reckless, indefensible and counter to sound science.

Economically, a live wolf is worth far more than a dead one. Wolf watching has brought in millions of dollars into Idaho and tourism is a major economic revenue source.

Wildlife killing contests perpetuate a culture of violence and send the message to children that life has little value and that an entire species of animals is disposable.

Additionally, wildlife killing contests put non-target animals, companion animals, and people at risk. Domestic dogs are sometimes mistaken for coyotes and wolves.

Please act responsibly and with compassion and cancel these barbaric contests. Until so, I will maintain that my only recourse would be to boycott Idaho for recreational purposes.

Thank you for your attention to this urgent appeal.

CNN: Please air Earthlings!

December 16, 2013
by

Please click HERE to sign and send petition

CNN: Please air Earthlings! For the reasons it was important to air Blackfish, it is important to air Earthlings. Earthling is the most important documentary about how humans USE all animals.

This documentary is the most important documentary for all animals, human and non human. People need to see it. Blackfish shed light on a very dirty little secret. And people responded. We have a very big dirty secret on this planet. We need to expose all animal use for what it is. Please tell CNN, by signing this petition, that airing Earthlings is as important as Blackfish.

The idea that we can enslave, exploit, torture, and kill animals for trivial reasons such as taste, amusement, or fashion is absurd. Please tell CNN to air the most important documentary of our time!

Sane people do not like to hurt animals! People need to see that they are participating in animal abuse, and what it means, so they will stop it. And showing them this movie will make a difference.

Thank you kindly.

Please help Greenlandic sled dogs

December 14, 2013

Facebook

BACKGROUND | SOURCE FACEBOOK

Dear friends. I need your help.

Today I have read about appalling news from Greenland. The number of Greenlandic sled dogs is falling, and, because of the ice melts, there is not so much more sledding.

Now the sled dog association has gotten the crazy idea that the only way for the  breed not go extinct is to breed and use them for food.

Unfortunately, the prime minister in Greenland is protector of the national dog sled racing and it was also her who wants more whaling, so she is not their friend. Yet, I ask you to write what you think about this.

Her email- address is alha@nanoq.gl

You can write in English, Danish or Norwegian

I posted this in the Nordic group but only got response from Vibeke. Therefore I ask now for international assistance. Many of these dogs live a terrible life. Many have also gained a better life after our big protest in 2009. Now they all need a massive protest from us.

I have written to Anima and asked for help to a strong petition and when it comes I hope for huge support.

Thank you so much

SAMPLE LETTER

Dear Prime Minister,

I am gravely concerned regarding the welfare of Greenlandic sled dogs and have come to understand that they are being targeted as a food option, inherently cruel and an inaccurate means to stop extinction. I reject this idea as well as using them for sledding.

Please allow me to elaborate. Animals are subjected to cruel rituals, including choking, bucking, shocking, roping, and pulling. Animals are frequently immobilized and caused extreme injuries for a variety of climates, all for the purpose of unnecessary human entertainment. This brief description cannot adequately illustrate the dangerous conditions to which the animals are subjected, but video footage has repeatedly established dozens of injuries, many crippling, some lethal, and all incompatible with any written “humane” policy. Evidence substantiating these claims is available via video footage. Additionally, although visual documentation can reinforce the physical injuries animals suffer, it lacks the ability to convey the terror felt by these sentient beings, forced to endure unquestionably fearful conditions in frenzied and exploitative states.

Furthermore, although you may assert that certain “humane” protocols must be followed, the visual evidence validates the position that these directives are often ignored; nevertheless, establishing a threshold of humane treatment is ambiguous at best, these standards being implemented by those professionally, personally, and financially involved. As such, it is important to recognize that animals, being exploited in demonstrably cruel and unnecessary manners, are given no option to withdraw and are forced to endure undeniably painful conditions for trivial purposes.

I hope you make the compassionate decision to discontinue your sponsorship on behalf of sledding and eating. However, as long as you continue to unnecessarily capitalize on the exploitation, maltreatment, and potential death of animals, I will not financially support you. It is important to recognize that consumers are increasingly rejecting those countries that are complicit in the suffering and brutal treatment of animals by shifting their loyalties to those countries that do not participate in the exploitation of them.

I know your time is limited and I thank you for your attention and consideration.
