Synopsis:
A fast-food cook is haunted by dark visions that blur the line between nightmare and reality.
Director Dustin Brown’s Statement:
“This Is Not An Ad is a psychological horror film that confronts the manipulation in marketing. Vibrant billboards, catchy slogans, and ‘clean’ branding are used to mask uncomfortable truths in what we eat, wear, and use.
By telling this story through the eyes of a working-class, fast-food cook, the film grounds a vast system of exploitation in an intimate, human lens. She’s not a villain. She’s one part of a larger machine, forced to confront the hidden suffering in her work. As her visions intensify, so does the central question: what do we choose not to see?
When branding becomes ubiquitous, the ad disappears, and we’re left with the false reality it creates. I hope the film unsettles, lingers, and encourages audiences to peel back that false reality. Meaningful change begins with the act of seeing clearly.”
