Yall are such hypocrites because slaughter is like this for all animals, not just horses! There is nothing humane about killing anything for food. If you eat chicken, pork, or beef, your money drives these slaughter houses and you might as well be the ones holding a bolt gun to a moving animals head!! So if you want to sit here and yell horse slaughter is inhume while you shove chicken nuggets, hamburgers, and bbq down your throat you need to shut your mouth. If you want to argue that horses should not be slaughtered for human consumption because of all the wormer and medicines, what do you think they give to chickens, cows, and pigs?? Let me tell you what they give them: wormer, growth hormones, and medication!! Horses are livestock and if you have never been involved in the horse industry then shut up because you don’t have a clue. Hell, even P.E.T.A has come out and said domestic slaughter should have never been eradicated in the U.S.!! And guess what P.E.T.A was the backbone of the anti horse slaughter movement and they have finally opened their eyes and seen the damage they have caused!! Idiots

I’m vegan and you can see that this is a vegan blog if you take a look beyond your inaccurate accusations. Denise is correct – why would you assume otherwise? We’re opposed to ALL slaughter. Most of us embrace an abolitionist approach to Animal Rights, meaning we engage with ALL animals and fight for ALL liberation. Your approach frankly stinks.

The FDA considers horses to be Companion Animals, and they are the ones doing the regulating. Since horses are NOT food animals, their medications and other products contain substances that are completely banned in ALL food animals. There is NO withdrawal time for banned substances. ONE exposure and an animal can NEVER enter the human food chain. The ban is permanent.
There are virtually no American horses that have not received at least one of these substances once during their lifetime. They are therefore unsafe for human consumption. Period.
I’ve owned horses for 35 years and I’ve SEEN horse slaughter and how ill suited horses are for equipment and techniques that were designed for animals with VERY different physical and mental characteristics.
Also, PETA did NOT come out for slaughter. They – erroneously – believe that our domestic plants were more humane than the ones in Mexico and Canada, which is ridiculous because they are owned and regulated by the same people who owned and regulated our domestic plants. ALL are under the very same regulations. PETA does support anti-horse slaughter legislation.

Why would you assume that anyone opposed to slaughtering horses eats meat? Many if not most of us do not, for exactly the reasons you describe. And I will treat you with enough respect to not engage in the kind of namecalling you engage in. You are a bit too quick with the assumptions, an indication of ignorance and illogic.
