Austrian Deer “Park” Annually Slaughters its Tame Residents, please send message

November 16, 2010

From VGT / AR News

This came from Austria today: The “Lainzer Tiergarten” (a kind of deer park) in Vienna closes its doors each November – officially to allow the animals a “rest period”. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, as the below video proves, they organise hunts – during which deer flee in panic with their guts hanging out or on three legs – to die miserably later. The animals are fed throughout the year and so the numbers are artificially kept high – providing an excuse each year for “having to cull” certain numbers. The city of Vienna earns EUR 4000.- per shot wild boar. So the motivation should be obvious. Please protest to the mayor of Vienna , Dr. Michael Haeupl, and ask him to end the hunts in the “Lainzer Tiergarten”.

Hunting caused immeasurable suffering animals!

New video shows Wounded animals with severe injuries in agony on the run!

Officially, the game Lainzer Tiergarten in early November for the recovery of the disabled, an irony which can hardly be surpassed, there is: will this time, but the animals in mass severance hunting guests before the guns carried in!

Pups cuddle up together in a Erdmulde, a curious-sighted mother – idyll abruptly interrupted one of the shots. Animals on the run. Wounded animals intestines hanging out of the bodies, others are trying with their last legs in force and only bring security to working three! Some die on the spot, others languish for days in pain then.

Through mass feedings, the number of animals held up unusually. Just this artificially created “overpopulation” is then a justification for the mass firings than specified. Lished but it is that is not here, the concern for animals, this form of wildlife management is responsible for, but that massive financial interests of the city are important.

The shooting down of a mature boar brings the city of Vienna up to € 4,000. But the thought of money for the right to kill someone alone may not sell, should arouse disgust! Help us to stop these massacres and advocate for a peaceful world!

Ask the Mayor of Vienna Dr. Michael Häupl put an end to hunting in Lainz garden for use. Email: michael.haeupl@spoe.at

ORIGINAL GERMAN

Jagd verursacht unfassbares Tierleid!

SAMPLE MESSAGE (this is quite lengthy so please modify & shorten or use your own words for greater impact):

Dear Mayor Häupl,

I am shocked to learn of the annual slaughter of animals that occurs in Lainz garden, and I am writing today to implore upon you to discontinue such a bloody and needless massacre.

Please allow me to illustrate a few concerns demonstrative of flawed validations as issued by your community government.  First, ecologically, populations will fluctuate according to conditions and naturally-occurring food sources; it is the interference of humans that causes “imbalance” as, indeed, defined by humans. To blame and slaughter deer and other innocent animals for human intrusion is both irresponsible and unjustified. Second, these animals do not benefit physically as has been promoted; starvation typically occurs in later winter months, not in later fall during which the slaughter occurs.

Furthermore, your practice of artificially increasing food supplies to lure animals, imprison them in defined boundaries, and then inviting hunters to kill the tamed animals is utterly cruel and duplicitous, essentially guaranteeing kills illustrative of canned hunts, a revolting practice condemned in many communities.  Additionally, the consequence of this manufactured hunt would be increased reproduction and an ensuing larger deer population. In fact, studies have demonstrated that the continual cycle of seasonal hunting is responsible for larger herd populations in subsequent years. This rebound effect is, indeed, a manipulation of population by hunting advocates to guarantee annual slaughters and demonstrates the vicious, deceptive, and unprincipled nature of hunting.   Additionally, regarding baiting, as has been evidenced during large culls or prolonged hunting periods, only the strongest and most physically hearty animals are attracted to a baited food source, and if the survival of the fittest cannot be guaranteed, which is the goal of such accessories as asserted by hunters, this practice is fundamentally flawed.

As intelligent people capable of sound conclusions, you should recognize the importance of life as taking precedence over the financial motives.  Additionally, aside from negatively affecting community members, this type of mass killing adversely affects both visitation and tourism; it would be financially detrimental to continually sanction such cruel and unnecessary killing.  As more people become aware of the savagery involved in hunting, they are selecting products and destinations that reflect a progressive and equitable attitude towards animals over those that capitalize on the exploitation and suffering of them.  I respectfully ask that you cease this consumptive use of animals and consider eco-tourism instead.

Gandhi once said that a great country is deemed by it’s love and compassion towards all animals……so here we have yet another country that will never be great until it stops unnecessary killing of all its innocent creatures, whether it be domestic or wildlife……and this annual slaughter in Lainz Garden is definately NOT needed and is only executed by very cruel and heartless people……..the world is watching you, so please stop this wicked massacre now!!!!

Sport killing in the name of conservation is the biggest, ugliest joke of all….there is never a need for culling …if human’s would step out of the picture, the deer numbers would even out on their own….Nature takes care of it’s own conservation!
