Animal rights activists plan protest over artist’s State Fair performance

Animal rights activists in Phoenix are planning to stage a protest outside the Arizona State Fair over next Wednesday’s performance by a popular country act.

This week animal activist group SHARK won a court battle and was able to release Troy Gentry’s home video showing him killing a captive, tame black bear in Minnesota back in 2006.

“He basically paid somebody money to pretend he was hunting and he killed a tamed bear,” said Arizona activist Patricia Cady. “The bear didn’t have anywhere to go, there was no chase, there was no hunt.”

Gentry, who is part of the Montgomery Gentry country duo, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges and paid a $15,000 fine.

Now, several years later, animal rights activists don’t want him at the Arizona State Fair next week.

“To perform at the state fair where there are livestock and small stock is a slap in the face,” said Cady.

Kristi Walsh, spokesperson for the Arizona State Fair said they have received several complaints regarding Gentry’s bear killing.

“We don’t have a lot of information yet, we are contacting Artist Management,” Walsh said. “The state fair does not condone animal abuse of any kind.”

Because of a legal agreement set up last July, Walsh says the show must continue despite customers concerns.

Cady said a protest is planned next Wednesday near the fairgrounds.

Fair goers like Lauren Terrelll and Kelsey Miller say they won’t go to the concert after hearing about the bear killing

“I would never go to the show again and I probably would not buy another CD from them,” said Miller.

I am working on a video response to the Troy Gentry’s video to let the public know that all bowhunting is cruel and sadistic. The incident with Troy and the killing of bear with a bow and arrow will bring the savage cruelty of bowhunting to light and that is what we need. It’s not just about tame bear that was killed inside the closure and once we punish Troy it will be “justice”, NO!!!, We must use the video to educate the public on the horrific cruelty of bowhunting. This is what Steve Hindi said about lung shot to game animals whether be deer or bear because lung is the target bowhunters most use.

“In the video, Gentry claims with glee that he shot Cubby in the lungs. While this brought Gentry much pleasure, as his glowing smile attests to, the reality is that when an animal is shot in the lungs they literally drown in their own blood (note how when Gentry is holding Cubby’s dead body, the bear’s mouth is filled with blood). Imagine someone shooting you with a razor sharp arrow and you crawl away, blood pouring from your mouth until hours later you finally die. That was Cubby’s fate, and how millions of other animals that are victims to bowhunters die. ”

From a hunting website on how to track wounded deer

    Lung shot

The deer could be “filling up” inside with blood, showing very little external bleeding. The hair from the lung area is coarse and brown with black tips. The deer will usually go down in less than 125 yards. Give the deer 30 minutes before tracking.

Bowhunters love the lung shot and with bear “hunting” baits are used 99% of the time so the bear always lose and always to suffer and die. Whenever I get those “true hunter” or “ethical hunter” type comments I have to be there to counter attack because our wildlife will not be betrayed by these lying bowkilling monsters. Overall there is no such thing as an “ethical” sports hunters, they are all evil who finds joy in killing.

If you don’t have the money to take care of your animals than DONT HAVE ANIMALS!! I hope Jentry gets shot in the lung with an arrow and than drowns on his own blood. I hope america condemns both men and never listens to his music again. He should suffer like the bear did!!!!!!

I hope that SHARK earns some money from releasing this video to cover their court costs … it was nice of them to distribute it for free … just shows that they want all to see and hear it more than make money … but these animal groups need support … in the form of volunteers or money, etc.

That “scumbag” who killed that penned up bear should be barred from hunting forever everywhere. It’s too bad he isn’t in jail. This is one despicable lowlife. I can’t imagine anybody wanting to buy his music.
