Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya wrote to fight injustice. She covered stories of violence, corruption, and abuse, including the human rights situation in Cechnya. Her articles were published in foreign media, and her books translated into many languages.

Although her work was internationally revered, she was critical of the Russian and Chechen governments, and it also brought her many enemies.

Politkovskaya was detained and her life endangered many times, including one case in which she was poisoned on her way to cover a school hostage crisis in North Ossetia. In 2006 she was murdered outside her home in Moscow.

In 2007, four men were charged with Anna’s murder, but acquitted. The Russian Supreme Court has ordered further investigation into the case, but nearly four years later her murderers remain unidentified and at large. Urge Russia’s Prosecutor General Yuri Yakovlevich Chaika to to find and bring to justice Politkovskaya’s killers.
