FUR | SKIN

The real price of fur must be measured in deaths–not dollars. To make one fur coat you must kill at least fifty-five wild mink, thirty-five ranched mink, forty sables, eleven lynx, eighteen red foxes, eleven silver foxes, one hundred chinchillas, thirty rex rabbits, nine beavers, thirty muskrats, fifteen bobcats, twenty-five skunks, fourteen otters, one hundred twenty-five ermines, thirty possums, one hundred squirrels, or twenty-seven raccoons.

Every year, the well-organized fur trade spends millions of dollars to glamorize fur coats and accessories and to mask the real price of fur: pain, mutilation, and death for millions of animals.  IDA

Fur flies with new HSUS exposé of retailers selling real fur as fake

Fur-Free Fashion

Animals with fur suffer immensely in the name of “fashion.” Fortunately, more and more brands, designers and retailers are going fur-free. The companies listed below have announced that they don’t sell animal fur or are phasing in a fur-free policy. (Please note that leather and shearling are not covered under a fur-free policy.)

Refer to our humane shopping guide, but always double-check any fur-trimmed product before buying it: Examine the material the hair comes out of to make sure it is woven fabric and not skin, and look at the ends of hairs—they should not be tapered (animal), though blunt ends could be either faux or sheared animal fur.

If you are a consumer and your favorite apparel company isn’t listed below, contact them to see if they have a fur-free policy. If they do, thank them with supportive messages and online comments. If they do not, politely let them know you won’t support them while they profit from cruelty. Your efforts will not only help expand our fur-free list, but also show decision-makers that consumers prioritize animal welfare.

SAMPLE MESSAGE

To Whom It Concerns,

I am shocked to discover that you are commercially engaged in the fur industry. Due to the inherently-brutal industry of fur farming, any products derived for or from the suffering and killing of animals should be rejected, and I am respectfully requesting that you discontinue profiting off the exploitation of animals.

Please watch the undercover footage of the industry you promote, barbaric demonstrations of fur in general:

FurStop.Com

Humans are capable, indeed obligated, to acknowledge animals as sentient beings who, like humans, experience love, anguish, pain, and suffering. Human apathy as established by the usage of fabrications and euphemisms reflects a lack of respect, not only for animals, but also for humans, and I implore upon you to examine your role in the suffering of animals and your unscrupulous conduct as host to such a cruel business. As such, as long as you unnecessarily and selfishly capitalizes on the mutilation, torture, and death of animals, I will not financially support you or your associated products. Furthermore, I will share this information with family, friends, colleagues, and members of online communities.

Please make both the ethical and responsible decision to discontinue your commercial support of fur immediately: join an increasing body of corporations who are listening to a concerned and attentive consumer population who refuse to be complicit in the inherently malicious industry of fur farming in all stages of “production”. I hope this letter finds you willing to scrutinize your own involvement and desire to protect, rather than harm, animals.

Sincerely,

NAME, ADDRESS
