Tip the dog, Soda the cat, and Tweety-bird, indeed all animals will also go to heaven.
At least this is one interpretation of remarks made by Pope Francis in his weekly general audience in the Vatican, reports the Guardian.
“The holy scripture teaches us that the fulfilment of this wonderful design also affects everything around us,” said the Holy Father.
Relying heavily on St Paul’s letters to the early Christian communities, Pope Francis reminded everyone that a “new creation” lies ahead.
He added: “It is not an annihilation of the universe and all that surrounds us. Rather it brings everything to its fullness of being, truth and beauty.”
Italian daily Corriere della Sera was in no doubt about his meaning. “It broadens the hope of salvation and eschatological beatitude to animals and the whole of creation,” wrote the paper’s Vatican specialist in an article published on Thursday.
With apparently little room in the Catholic Catechism allowing room for animals in heaven, reaction to the possible interpretations of Pope Francis’ comments remains mixed.

“Animals Go to Heaven”…Of course they do. There’s no debate. And animal lovers have always known this. I would like to thank the Pope for finally catching up to us. Now, when the rest of the world catches up, we will finally be able to treat animals with the respect and compassion they deserve…and, I pray, there will never again be animal abuse.

Hopefully, the amazing announcement by Pope Francis that all animals go to Heaven also means His Holiness is one step closer to also announcing to the World that he is a vegan. The Pope has a golden opportunity to persuade millions of the 1.2 to 1.3 billion Catholics in the world to become vegans.The power of suggestion from the most powerful religious leader in he world could certainly persuade hundreds of religious leaders and hundreds of millions of people associated with many religions to become vegans. Ultimately, within three to five years the lives of hundreds of millions of animals would be saved and the health and welfare of billions of humans would improve dramatically, as well as the health and welfare of the Earth. If Pope Francis announces to the World that he is a vegan it will be remembered throughout history as the most important announcement every made by a religious leader. Pope Francis needs to become the change he wants to see in the World!!

I so agree. I, too, hope he strengthens his words with actions and demonstrates to all who follow him that veganism is the only humane, and that animals deserve respect, equality, and compassion. Thank you, dearest Arthur! And thank you for sharing this news with me!

I really like this statement of Pope Francis, once again, he manages to amaze the world. Every living thing has a Mind / Soul / Spirit (everyone can call it like it is more appropriate), our Buddhist teacher told us a lot more… but I dont think this is the right place to enter into a diatribe a tad complicated to explain. In all honesty humility… I myself have difficulty to snatch the complete sense. However, the only difference that divides us (men and animals) is the “choice” of our actions… In Buddhist philosophy all living beings with at least one sensory organ, are considered sentient beings… the animals like the men . We are all confined in samsara, related to suffering, so long as we fail to become Bodhisattvas…
Any action related to give love, help, compassion towards all living creatures allows us to bring to our karma virtuosity. Every virtuous action is also linked to the law of “cause – effect”… if not in this life, everything will return in the nextt one! Like any bad action that brings suffering, will return back to us. This is to explain the meaning in a drastically easy way 😉 Hugs Claudine

Animals go to Heaven. Not just because we want them to, it is Biblical. People trample all over the scriptures looking for something to justify selfish behaviors and it is right in there all over, God talks to the creatures, He makes covenants with them, and they worship Him right back. Anyone who says the don’t go to Heaven or that they don’t have souls need to produce the evidence. If you are not Xtian, this doesn’t mean anything to you but if a Xtian tells you animals don’t go to Heaven, ask them to produce the scripture.
