Country’s First Fur Ban Goes Into Effect

Foxes, minks, lynxes, chinchillas, and other furbearing animals have found an unofficial sanctuary in West Hollywood, California. Just days after the city banned exotic-animal acts, it’s getting ready to implement the country’s first ban on the sale of fur this Saturday, which means that swanky stores such as Balenciaga, Alberta Ferretti, and Phillip Lim will have to clear fur from their shelves or face fines of up to $800.

While the Fur Information Council of America—which, in a delightful coincidence, is based in West Hollywood—is unsurprisingly foaming at the mouth and threatening to sue, some retailers are welcoming the change.

“We are on board with the ban as we understand the concerns and have realized that there are many other fabrics and fibers that can easily take the place of real fur,” David Malvaney, cofounder of the upscale Church Boutique, told Women’s Wear Daily. “We feel that the desire for real fur will lessen over time as more people become aware of the process to which the animals are subject, and I believe more cities will adopt a similar ordinance.”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves, Mr. Malvaney.

I say, if you want to wear fur, you have raise, kill and skin the animal yourself. People who wear fur are IMHO willfully f*cking IGNORANT!!!!

While we both know that there are those with stone hearts who would not hesitate (although that is the fur industry makeup right there), those who actually do wear furs are of the weak-at-heart and selfish and ignorant and they just wouldn’t care. They pay to have others do their dirty work, I agree, thanks, hon.

Last winter here in Boston, one of my vegan friends stopped a woman on the street to ask her if the coat she was wearing was real fur. The woman responded, “Yes, it’s rabbit.” so my friend began to explain to her what they do to the rabbits in order to make the coat and her response was, “Who cares, they are just rodents!”

        Nice, huh?

If I ever find that woman, I am going to make a coat out her!

ABSOLUTELY THE RIGHT THING TO DO. I BELIEVE OTHERS WILL FOLLOW AND THE ANIMALS WILL HAVE THEIR RIGHTS TO LIVE 🙂

You can’t beat Mother Nature. I imagine that you want the Indians to give up wearing Buck Skin also. Think about it, the wormest &lightest jacket, is down filled. I don’t think you can beat a beaver coat for keeping worm. They have tried for over a half century to make an artifical butter, that is better than butter, but have failed.
