Cops taking wounded animals to the gun range and shooting them

Merced Police are reportedly taking injured animals out to the shooting range and shooting them according to a report filed by CBS13. Animal rights activists are questioning whether this is the most humane solution to put down pets who are suffering from injuries.
According to a California penal code, it’s an officer’s discretion, saying in part: “…any officer… may, with the approval of his or her immediate superior, humanely destroy any abandoned animal in the field in any case where the animal is too severely injured to move or where a veterinarian is not available and it would be more humane to dispose of the animal. “No one wants to see an animal lose its life, but if death is inevitable, and it’s just being prolonged,” said Sacramento County Sgt. Jason Ramos.

To Whom It Concerns,
It is my understanding that police personnel take injured animals to kill at a shooting range, and I am respectfully requesting you cease this type of behaviour and take them, instead, to receive veterinary services.
Animals are sentient beings, capable of thought and emotion, including love and suffering. They deserve our respect and compassion to be diagnosed correctly and not be exploited additionally.
Please respect the victims by taking them to qualified medical personnel and thereby demonstrate your commitment to justice, responsibility, and integrity, attributes unquestionably necessary in a law enforcement setting: rejecting cruelty by maintaining an unyielding position towards it would be a model for all community members and would serve to characterize this type of behaviour as impermissible.
I know your time is limited and I thank you for your attention to this urgent appeal.

I see nothing wrong with putting a severely injured animal down. Kind of like if your horse broke its leg, it was more humane to put it down. I have had to put down several of my animals down. Some from Illness, some to eat. But I always tried to do it the humane way. I always like to follow the food chain. I do love my bacon, pork chops, beef but I can leave the mutton alone. The sheep and goats are safe from my food chain. Plus most fish are also.

It’s not so much the question of putting them down, sometimes there is no choice, but how to, there is mercy and kindness, when your time comes, do you want to be taken to the desert and shot or do you want to die in your bed, you have a choice, to bad you are to stupid, you don’t see it that way for the animals, and you seem so very proud of yourself, so why don’t you go kiss yourself in the mirror, and hope when your times comes you have a choice , because sometimes karma can be a bitch!

I already have a DNR(do not resuscitate)filed. When its God’s will that I go, I don’t want any one to interfere. I have seen too many people kept alive, because they have a lot of money or good insurance. The thing most people don’t know, is there is no hell like the religions teach, hell fire and brim stone. Hell was put into religions to put fear into the masses, so they could be controlled. The only true hell is not being in Heaven. If you screw up in this life, you have to come back again and again until you reach a certain perfection. Then you move on to the next test an so on until you obtain enough perfection to get into Heaven. So I am not worried about the karma part. As far as being taken to the desert and shot, I think I would prefer that to being kept alive as a vegetable. I also believe that Obama’s
Death Squad with take care of me any ways.

I will say that the Vegan’s of this Country do try to do the right thing. Even though I think some of you efforts are a little misguided. I would like to ask you all a question. Have any of you ever gone days with out eating anything? I don’t mean missing a meal, I mean to where you are starving to death. To the point where you can visualize your dog or cat being roasted over an open fire, or the neighbors dog or cat. I worked with a man that was a prisoner of war in Korea. He said they ate rats and any thing else they could catch to survive. I am sure after not eating for several days, you wouldn’t be lusting over the neighbors yard. They say that there is only 5 days worth of food in most cities. Can you visualize what would happen in less than a week, if there were no more food brought into the Cities. You would have to lock up you pets, get your guns and lock your doors just to protect the food you do have.

I completely agree with you, I am certain it is status quo in many areas. It’s so sad, they aren’t medical experts and could kill a wonderful animal who could be saved. 😦 Thanks for all your efforts.

Unreal!!! Many dogs are shot on sight (esp. those thought to be “bully breeds”) due to “officer’s safety” but sometimes, those animals are simply pets who got out of the yard. 😦

You really have to be careful of I will use the term wild dogs running in packs. We had to shoot some of them because they were killing calf’s, and other small farm animals. Now I left the farm 50 some years ago. I imagine they still have to in some areas. Also the Wolf population has grown to big, an I believe they have to hunt some of them down. We are starting to have a coyote problem. I will probably have to start hunting them also.
