URGENT: Birds Reportedly Trapped, Dying at New Jersey Mall

Birds are getting trapped behind bird-deterrent netting at Deptford Crossing Shopping Center and are then suffering and dying from starvation. According to our callers, birds enter the net through holes or gaps but are unable to find their way out! We understand that live birds are currently trapped. Furthermore, we’re told that bird nests, possibly containing babies, have also been sealed behind the netting. Graphic photos reportedly taken at this location appear to corroborate these reports. PETA contacted the Malachite Group, which owns Deptford Crossing, but was given no assurances that the matter would be speedily corrected. Your voice is needed!
We ask you to politely urge the Malachite Group either to remove the netting altogether or to free the birds and then properly reinstall the netting. Remind the company that most birds are federally protected and that harming them (even unintentionally) can result in a $15,000 fine!

Are you frigging kidding me? Ive never heard of such cruelty in my life! Its both abusive and cruel as wll as sickening i live about 25 minutes away from that place and have half a mind to go their and see for myself this is disturbing perhaps if i speak with a manager as a customer my pleas will carry more weight thanks Stacey for alerting me to this i sent the email and shared in severall places my friend Danny the Bird Man of Long Beach who rescues birds will be very upset to hear this!! BTW, I follow Amanda Loller’s site: Bat World Sanctuary and the deterrents use to keep pigeons and other birds from nesting on buildings ALSO traps bats (causing the same fate) — and we need bats as they serve a very important function to our eco-system (like bees). I had no idea how important until I read through Bat World Sanctuary’s site.
Whoever installed that netting needs a good smash upside the head!

That is absolutely true and people do not realize (or maybe don’t care).
As I’ve said before, I would be willing to sacrifice my own life, it meant saving the planet and all it’s non-human inhabitants.

If you nav on over to Bat World Sanctuary http://batworld.org/ you can read about various rescues where bats were caught in traps intended to deter pigeons… I mean, the people who invent these traps, especially the glue traps, need to be trapped in one to see what it feels like! Argh!
