Charge soldiers who tortured monkey

Vietnam was recently ranked the worst nation for wildlife crimes out of a list of 23 countries in a survey undertaken by the World Wildlife Fund. Perhaps government officials have taken this dishonorable ranking to heart with their decision to take action against a group of soldiers for torturing endangered monkeys.

The group of three soldiers reportedly bought the illegally caught monkeys from local villagers before torturing them and then paying villagers to slaughter them. Photographs of the two monkeys’ torture were uploaded onto Facebook.Private Nguyen Van Quang (whose Facebook wall displayed the photos) and the two other soldiers involved in this atrocious incident have been dismissed from their unit, according to state media. Three villagers have been arrested for illegal hunting.

With high levels of public outrage over these heinous crimes, the Vietnamese government should ensure that the punishment handed down to these soldiers reflects the severity of their crime. The two monkeys, who were forced to smoke, then skinned and beheaded, were critically endangered gray-shanked douc langurs. The International Union for Conservation of Nature has placed these monkeys among the world’s top 25 most-endangered primates, with only approximately 650 animals believed to be left in the wild.

Col. Nguyen Van Hai, the head of Tay Nguyen Command’s Military Prosecutor’s Office, has stated that the soldiers are being questioned and that they will be dealt with under military law. It is crucial that the Vietnamese authorities show that they will not tolerate animal abuse and that offenders will be punished appropriately.

Please write to your local Vietnamese embassy and ask government officials to send a message that Vietnam will no longer tolerate the torture and abuse of animals. Animals are not ours to exploit, and it is time for Vietnam to implement animal-protection laws to safeguard those who cannot speak for themselves.

SAMPLE LETTER

To Whom It Concerns,

Three Vietnamese soldiers were arrested for torturing – and skinning alive – two highly-endangered grey-shanked duoc monkeys – the world’s most endangered primates. They wantonly forced a pregnant monkey to smoke a cigarette prior to torturing and skinning her alive to make a perverted display on Facebook to bring ridicule to your government. This brought worldwide massive outrage, and great shame placed on Vietnam.

These soldiers represent Vietnam as a country. Since they highly insulted the country and brought great shame and ridicule to Vietnam, these soldiers should be seen as traitors and dealt with much severity.

Torturing and killing a pregnant monkey also represents deviants who get unnatural pleasure doing this sort of thing and are dangerous to public safety and children.

“One of them, Nguyen Van Quang, who is serving in the Tay Nguyen Command of the Vietnamese army, posted photos of the monkeys on his Facebook page last week. What is more worrying about the incident is that the young soldier who posted the photos on Facebook did not think he did anything wrong, says Nga Pham from BBC Vietnamese.”

It is crucial that the Vietnamese authorities show that they will not tolerate animal abuse and that offenders will be punished appropriately; send a message that Vietnam will no longer tolerate the torture and abuse of animals. Animals are not ours to exploit, and it is time for Vietnam to implement animal-protection laws to safeguard them.

Thank you for your time and attention to this urgent appeal.

to hate is to objectify…to objectify is to hate
the essence of hatred is the assumption that one is superior to the object of this hatred.

to assume superiority over any being is an outright lack of self-esteem, and in this narcissistic, yet egoless state, the search for self and validation assumes the ugliest of masks, a mask perhaps first donned when they were the victim.

the person in this state of self imposed nothingness then attempts to elevate him/herself by the denigration and abuse of whoever the chosen victim is. by completely depersonalizing the “chosen”, he/she is then able to lash out without constraint, since in this twisted, demonic state, any reason and compassion have long since flown.

the torments and tormenting continue, as bloodlust and anger at this level can never be sated. they keep going and killing and torturing and it is never enough.

there is no end, even at death, where the gates of hell await.

i pray that this will change one day,
that all this misery will go away.

WE USUALLY RESPECT SOLDIERS, WE HOLD THEM IN HIGH ESTEEM ! JUST GOES TO SHOW THAT YOU CAN’T EVER BELIEVE THEY ARE ALL GOOD. ! THOSE WHO DID THIS TO THE BEAUTIFUL MONKEYS ARE SCUMMM AND ARE NOT “MEN”. THEY SHOULD PAY FOR THIS DISGUSTING CRUELTY, AND BE SUSPENDED FROM THEIR DUTIES AND GO TO PRISON !

I think ALL Asian countries are vile towards all creatures, whether domestic, farm or wildlife. These people seem to be stuck in the middle ages with barbaric cruelties towards all innocent animals, and the rest of the world should (and could) boycott them totally, refusing to do any business at all with them, until they get educated and made to put decent Animal Welfare in place. I think one of the wickedest thing they do, is kill defenceless dogs and cats by skinning/boiling them alive, for the fur or meat trade.
