Urge Australia to Stop Gunning Down Camels From Helicopters

July 11, 2012
by

BACKGROUND

The Australian government is reportedly gunning down unwanted feral camels from helicopters to reduce their populations. Aerial hunts are exceedingly cruel, often only maiming animals who then die slow, agonizing deaths. Families are torn apart, and young and weak animals starve or die of dehydration. Apparently, 8,000 camels have already been killed, but up to 50,000 camels are being targeted! Your voice is needed today!

Please urge Australian officials to ditch aerial hunting—and then forward this message widely! Unwanted animals can be humanely controlled using exclusion techniques and deterrents.

SAMPLE LETTER

Dear Director Ferguson,

It has come to my attention that the Australian government is reportedly gunning down unwanted feral camels from helicopters to reduce their populations. Please allow me to illustrate a few of my concerns.

First, killing camels artificially increases food supplies to the remaining camels, the consequence of which is increased reproduction and an ensuing greater population. In fact, studies have demonstrated that the continual cycle of seasonal hunting is responsible for a rebound, or larger herd populations, in subsequent years.

Second, hunters often spend hours following bloody tracks before finding wounded animals, if they look at all. Many camels are not found, and their deaths are slow and painful. It can take weeks for them to succumb to their injuries. Families are then torn apart, and young and weak animals starve or die of dehydration.

Third, this type of mass killing using such a brutal type of slaughter in such a central and visible location would certainly adversely affect both visitation and tourism; it would be financially detrimental to continue with such a cruel and unnecessary killing, and although I do not currently reside in Australia, I would be unwilling to consider it as a potential vacation destination if this hunt continues.

Please act ethically and with compassion and cancel further aerial hunts; unwanted animals can be humanely controlled using exclusion techniques and deterrents.

I know your time is limited and I want to thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.

Hi, hon. Whenever you reblog, a comment automatically gets posted indicating such, and the comments show up under the alert. Just scroll down to the bottom and you should see them. If you see a “see more” you need to click that before you can see the comments, though. I hope that makes sense! Thanks for all your help in sharing. 🙂

            Hi
Ha ha…I only just found this because I got logged out, so I thought what’s this notification button do.& saw your reply….lol
Right, of course, I keep seeing a section where it say’s comments, when I re-blog your stuff but wasn’t quite sure what it was for! I think I have only commented on one, to see what happened but I never found it.

Thanks for the above, typical blonde moment, & no worries about sharing I always try to share yours. Although pain has been bad this week, so not been doing much. But if you miss a couple of days don’t you find that your in box is full again, I do, I have to miss lots of stories just to keep up to date. It’s worrying & so heartbreaking that animal abuse seems to be happening every minute around the world!
We can but do our best, even though it breaks my heart & I’m usually sobbing whilst posting horrid stories, but I carry on in the hopes that what I post actually helps keep people aware & educated…plus I hope they sign all the petitions.

Thanks again hun, sorry I do tend to talk a lot..lol

You can feel free to talk as much as your heart desires! That is what this is for. 🙂 Thanks for all you do, I know how hard it can be, and how overwhelming it seems at times. We can only do what we can and no more, take it easy, hon, I can only imagine how difficult it is for you. Be safe and tell me anything you wish. And don’t worry about a “blond” moment, I get them all the time, too, and I am not even blond! Love ya, sis, take care and thanks so much for everything you do on your spectacular blog.

Ditto hun, i guess we all help in our own ways! But i don’t get it, there are more animal rights now, so more education etc. but the abuse isn’t going down, if anything is gone up an is still rising! 😦
That’s just a little rant for now, talk later chuck & thanks, for everything, its good to know I can call you sis too.!
