SAMPLE LETTER

Dear Excellency and Those Concerned,

It has come to my attention that you have created a novelty item by putting live animals in key chains, and I am respectfully requesting you use your influence to cease offering them.

Please allow me to elaborate. The victims are complex animals who experience suffering and joy, and who also have the capacity to nurture complex relationships and display grief upon separation. Furthermore, despite an almost-universal apathy towards their sensitivity, these animals indeed experience pain and react negatively towards stressful situations including loud noises, lights, enclosures, and disturbed environments. Although consumers may find this amusing, it is indeed a painful and terrifying experience for the animals.

Please take this opportunity to express compassion and empathy for our animal friends and decide to help rather than harm them by discontinuing the live animal key chains.

Thank you for taking the time to read this urgent appeal.

They have tortured, continue to torture, and continue to think up new ways to torture, humiliate and eat virtually every type of every species they can find. They have no conscience, no remorse and show no mercy.

I know it’s sickening to hear about these things, but sending angry emails to the Chinese government is only going to make you feel better, it isn’t going to help the animals there. In fact, it may do the reverse.

The Chinese government is super sensitive to criticism and won’t be influenced in any way by angry insults. It is much more likely to listen to persistent polite requests. However difficult it is to be polite, it is more difficult for the animals that desperately need protection from laws yet to be drafted. The government already has a draft animal welfare bill, which will hopefully be passed one day if they are ‘encouraged’ to do so… politely.

Remember, there is a growing number of Chinese people who courageously challenge the authorities and have already stopped several truckloads of cats and dogs en-route to the hellish markets. We don’t have this kind of horror to contend with and venting anger at the Chinese government isn’t going to make things easier for these good people either.

Hi Stacey, I must apologise for I have only just seen your reply, a few years late. I should have made it clear that I meant no criticism of your polite letter. I was referring to some of the posts from people who had sent less than polite messages, understandable as that is.

Many of the comments on this site are as violent towards Chinese people as the violence (that a small handful of people are committing) towards these tiny creatures. Animal cruelty exists in all cultures and it does not mean all people of that culture commit or condone it. I applaud the efforts stop this cruel practice, I only wish it could be done without perpetuating further inhumanity. ~ Crystal Dawn, NXIVM member (name changed to mislead the ignorant)

How horrible!!! What the hell is wrong with the Chinese and their government??? Obviously they have no regard for any life there. I know I would NEVER buy a keychain made from an animal…I refuse to even wear fur. If I could, I’d maybe buy the keychains to get the poor turtles or fish out of there before they die.
