IDA Files Defense Department Complaint In Sheep Beating Case: Please Send Message

In Defense of Animals has filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Defense requesting an investigation into the brutal beating of a helpless sheep by a soldier with a metal baseball bat. This incident, caught on video in Afghanistan, has circulated around the internet, tarnishing the reputation of the U.S. military. The video shows a child looking on and several other soldiers laughing and supporting the beating. It took 12 blows with the sheep in convulsions and several attempts at escape before the helpless animal finally died. IDA demands that an investigation is conducted into this incident and appropriate action taken for all those involved.
Animal cruelty is punishable under Article 134 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice for “public animals” like bomb-sniffing dogs and military horses. The Commission on Military Justice in 2009 recommended that criminal charges be brought against military personnel who abuse non-public animals like dogs, cats, and farm animals, but it is unclear if the military has heeded the recommendations of the Commission.
This is not the first instance of animal cruelty caught on video. Marine David Motari was filmed throwing a puppy over a cliff in Iraq in a 2008 video. This violent and senseless act eventually led to his discharge from military duty.

Thank you for this article, Stacey. I am with a small group of people on FaceBook called U.S. Citizens Against Military Animal Abuse. We contacted IDA about this situation and they responded to our call for help! If everyone would take a moment to go over to our page you will see further evidence of the abuses perpetrated against animals by select military personnel. We have several other videos we have found on the internet. We have contacted GAO, Pentagon and Senators. We would appreciate anyone who would be interested in joining our group to bring an end to these atrocities. We have the petition on our page with well over 10,000 signatures that will be sent to President Obama concerning this actions of the U.S Military. I ask that anyone who may be interested in our group to please join and assist. We need folks who will be actively participating in our campaign!

Meanwhile a soldier who brought military abuse to light is now on trial for TREASON.
These soldiers are taught how to kill. That is what happens in war. What do we expect?
Manning is a HERO! Set him free now!

That sorry piece of (means fecal matter, rhymes with fit) is a disgrace to humanity itself, let alone the Armed Forces and the United States. Beyond that, its behavior suggests a fundamental disrespect for Life. It has pretty much been established that those who engage in torturing and wantonly killing animals are a danger to humans in whatever communities they happen to find themselves. Failure to have this creature MINUTELY evaluated for psychiatric problems would be nothing less than criminally negligent. When he goes after humans, and he almost certainly will, the injuries and deaths should be laid at the feet of those now responsible for dealing with it.
