Woman protesting against animal abuse at rodeo is lassoed and dragged

As translated from EMOL Chile

A woman who protested against animal abuse in the crescent of the National Stadium was lassoed by weekend riders participating in the rodeo and dragged outside the fence.

The images were captured by Paulina Alarcón, one of those attending the activity, held on 19 September and released today by Chilevisión.

The incident occurred after a group of people disrupted the activity.

The 17 year old girl, named Constance, told the television station that the experience was one of the most traumatic of her life, and that following a peaceful protest ended up being “brutally assaulted.”

“It was pretty cramped, my whole back ached because I was stuck with some leather, my feet were hurting, I have a sprained arm, and where I was tied is very swollen,” she said.

Meanwhile, Alfonso Rivas, director of the entity responsible for organizing the event, the Chilean Rodeo Federation, regretted what happened, but at the same time justified the attitude of the riders.

“Meeting is to some extent because of the reaction. It is unfortunate for both parties,” he said.

Rodeo Federation has launched an investigation.

I think your shark mobile is clever, but when driving around on roads/highways you must remember there is a high risk for young viewers to see it. It can be VERY traumatic for young children to witness this without understanding fully what is going on, especially the bloody videos (seal hunts, slaughtering bulls with knives). I am an animal advocate, but i think it’s irresponsible to display the very graphic scenes w/out knowing who your target audience in the car behind or around you. not cool

As for the innocent children seeing SHARK’s mobile, children are allowed AT these sadistic events and are there all the time, aren’t they? They see it live and are taught this is a normal way of life. It’s not the people who expose these things, but the people doing them that need to stop. It’s traumatic for every sane, decent person to see these things, not just children, although I understand your special concern for them. It’s the sadistic thugs that are responsible though.

That’s where you are totally wrong. We think it is fine to allow children to eat animals; wear animals; go to circuses, zoos, rodeos and aquariums; learn to hunt and fish; visit farms, etc, etc. But how often does anyone teach their children that is it NOT okay to exploit another living being to our own end? How often is the truth shown to anyone, let alone children? Perhaps if we horrify enough parents (and their kids), we’ll get enough people talking about the use and abuse of other sentient beings.

Bottom line: if you don’t want your kids to see it, don’t allow it to happen in the first place.

I DO think Rodeos should be required to release the #s of injuries and death from their events, what are they hiding

Of course these sick people who abuse animals for a living have no problem abusing a person.

This is the first I’ve heard of your organization and I will be supporting it. That video with the bullfighting and rodeo footage made me cry. How could a human be so cruel??? KARMA.

They did a very good job of proving what horrible heartless people they are.
Their action actually helps the cause against rodeos.

I think anyone who gets pleasure out of watching these cowardly brutal rodeos should be lassooed and dragged until their puny little brains are exposed to some fresh air

Bless her for having the courage to protest and bring attention to that sadism. These men should be deeply ashamed for ridiculing and abusing a young women, including the director for the event for justifying it. What an outrage! How would he feel if grown men lassoed and dragged his daughter around. I am not very surprised, though. People who make it a sport to torture innocent animals are brutes. Many nations are coming around to outlawing this sadistic practice and these men have only brought closer attention to it. They are on the wrong side of history.

Love it…!!… SHARK… I was just saying the other day that we needed more people to do this sort of thing… I think it is something that needs to be brought to the public attention, including our kids… People don’t seem to think that it is too “Traumatizing” to teach their kids to hunt, wear fur, eat meat, go to a rodeo, or a circus so why is this so different… I think we need to show this absurdity from a different point of view whether people like it or not… Why is ok to expose this sort of VIOLENCE to children when we are teaching them that it IS ok, but it is not ok to show it to them when we are trying to teach them that it IS NOT ok…?????…. It is not a wonder that this madness has been allowed to continue for so long… The way people think is so half assed backward… !!.. I applaud SHARK… Best idea yet… Please bring it to Canada… We need more awareness up here…

This is such a cruel and inhumane live entertainment sport, yes its a sport not entertainment. It is a brutal attack on an innocent living being that is scared and not knowing what is going on. How about they try to hog tie themselves up. Leave the animals alone. I am discusted with the fact the elected officials would allow this to continue in their state or home town. It is time to stop the insanity and think up to date not far back when their parents were into this. If they were.

How many animals were injured or humans for that matter, but my concern is for the animals they have no choice in the matter, trusting animals of humans, but those so called cowboys do. Let them get into the ring.
