About us, so there will be no mistake …

by

Condemned for disease and death due to heat exhaustion and wounds, these unfortunate animals could be considered fortunate for not being subjected to inadequate stunning methods and "humane" slaughter which would have eviscerated and skinned them while still conscious.

Our Compass’ mission and beliefs are clearly established not only in our postings, but also in our About section. We will entertain opposing views, especially in the context of a respectful exchange of ideas, the desire for additional information, and in attempts of aspiration to veganism and an embracing of animal and human rights. We understand the incipient pervasion of ideas, thoughts, and expert understandings, and we welcome both the eager and learned responses to our publishing and goals. No person should ever feel limited, ashamed, or hesitant, we will always provide what we can in the spirit of constructive dialogue and learning. We are not experts, though, we continuously learn as well, the possession of knowledge is fluid and flexible, ideas evolve, information is metamorphic, and we all benefit from an unending pursuit of truth and justice.

However, we have decided that, in the interest of time and fairness, Our Compass will no longer accept lengthy missives and verbose declarations of why it is “okay” to continually consume meat and dairy, or why it is permissible to endorse the holocaust of non-human animals based on deliberate but needless human animal desires. And we will no longer respond to self-absorbed rhetoric that does nothing but attempt to suppress the adversity to such indignity and horror. We care not for your conditions, your beliefs, your established rituals of animal bloodletting, your ideas of therapeutic diets that promote a morally corrupt industry that murders 60 billion animals per year. If people feel the administrators of Our Compass are “bitches”, or that we are unsympathetic, or that we are closeminded and righteous, then so be it, we don’t falter at these blatant “criticisms”. Label us however you may want, we would have it no other way. We deflect your judgments and condemnations, we would never want a mass murderer to embrace us with joy and respect. Would you want Hitler to love you? Does the thought of Ted Bundy being a close friend excite you? We are animal rights activists who will not endorse your brutal dietary decision or accept your pithy reasoning.

Diet is not a right, it is a choice, and your choices have consequences; why you would fault us for not approving your contribution to agony and murder completely confounds me: if we gave you permission and approval, how would the animals benefit? Would their lives be less exploited or less painful, their emotional disturbance and suffering diminished, their existences more appreciated and empathized? Indeed, would our support of your dietary indulgence prove less conflicting for the animals, or would it, instead, prove less conflicting for you? Anthropocentrism is the prejudicial view of humans as supreme, relegating all others to products, a commodification of sentience to excuse the biased perception of human power at the expense of life. And it is immoral, unforgivable, and dangerous. The route to slaughterhouses and factory farms is not only physically obstructed, but it is also hindered with emotional barriers as well, and that is why you demand our support: to limit those barriers with social approval. The fact that you question your diet via projections on us for support of such may be beneficial, though. Embrace that question and force its answer with introspection and deliberation, and realize those barriers are your conscience.

Male chicks are unfortunate casualties of the egg industry, considered unprofitable and inessential, ground up or suffocated in industry-approved methods of death.

If you review comments on Our Compass, you will determine that there are those who have stated they still eat meat, and we have neither deleted those assertions nor condemned these people: that they eat meat but that they are here in the interest of diminishing such and limiting their impact is a welcomed event; that they are concerned with human tragedies and reflections of perversions in efforts to effect change is received with respect and admiration, Our Compass APPLAUDS these people and will assist in any way possible, but these expressions of interest and revelation are in direct contrast to those who vilify ARAs and celebrate death. We are not perfect, we have faults, but do not dare attempt a comparison of intentional with consequential, that we live requires the death of others, but that we live means we can diminish as much our contribution to the suffering and exploitation of animals in a conscious decision to live as vegans; do not rot our vision with your mental affliction and conjectural assaults, that we use a computer or walk outside does not in any way give you our demanded concession to your dietary corruption.

Our Compass does not have a priest on staff, if you want forgiveness, seek it via confession or theological insight. If you want permission, you need only step outside, smell the rotting, burning flesh of bar-b-ques; watch tv, view the advertisements, shows, series all promoting meat and dairy consumption, people rah-rah’ing meat in some freakish cheerleading parody, cows playing games in ludicrous and fabricated scenes of pastoral comfort; visit a grocer, witness the slicing through shoulders and thighs, blood dripping and spattering, people shouting orders for body parts and flesh, the bones cracking, the skin glistening; take a ride, watch the trucks rumble past, the animals squeezed together and on top of each other, their bodies smashed, their faces pushed out of slats, terrified feelings of the impending pain and inevitably agonizing death realized in expressions of terror and helplessness; patronize a restaurant or fast-food establishment, see the torturous commerce, smell the death, buy the murder, consume the flesh of the sentient beings you discard easier than garbage.

Mothers, raped and confined in this immobilizing manner for their entire, agonizing lives, their children left to root around, dying due to constraints, left to rot in feces and urine.

That is your life, not ours and Our Compass yearns not for your pathetic ramblings seeking our approval or forgiveness for your ethical inadequacies. Roughly 98% of the global population shares your diet, why seek us out in some pitiful attempt of exoneration? Do you NEED us? You accuse us of being righteous, standing on top our pillar of morality, shouting down to the murderous masses, condemning your actions while you desecrate our beliefs. Look inward, examine your motives, and admit your behaviour: you put us up here, it is you who shouts up to us, it is you who demands a ladder to our level, an ethical ascension granted by us. Your “judicious” pronouncements comply with the legality of murder, but they do not abide by the morality of life. That you would mock our movement and our struggle on behalf of tortured and murdered animals disgusts us; that you feel indignation at our dismissal of your actions as selfish and reprehensible is contemptuous. That you are insulted by our rejection of anthropocentric power and speciesism is loathsome.

Are you familiar with racism, sexism, poverty, and ethnological challenges? Do you understand the perverse human hostilities and the consequences of war, indifference, oppression, hatred, serial and mass killing? Would you mock any of those? Would the apathetic promotion of such anger offend you? If I exclaimed, “Hurricane Katrina was an unfortunate event, but it happens, it is the right of people to acknowledge and support the death of people, it could be kinder, more humane, but I cannot be bothered by such frivolities. And children die everyday, I have the right to endorse it, it may be brutal and unconscionable to you, but my health condition requires the slaughter of children, it makes me feel good, it’s what I need to survive and is my right to do so. And while I do understand that the rape of females is something you may find objectionable, it is for the betterment of me to engage in it, and I have that right, I am supreme, I am important, I am omnipotent: I. Am. Human. …” That is human-speak for animal-death, that you would cherish these tragedies as anything but horrific and degenerate is a demonstration of how your murderous convictions towards non-human animals affect us. This is how we feel when you cheerfully brag, “I’m going to eat a STEAK, I’ll eat three for each one you don’t eat; animals were put here by (name your deity) for us; plants feel pain; I can only eat meat; my meat-eating doctor says veganism is dangerous; pigs taste good; bar-b-ques are fun; rare is my right, blood is beautiful, gore is great, meat is mine, butchered is best, death is dietary.”

Your relentless exculpatory exclamations of murder are profoundly disturbing, and Our Compass will not allow such wretched exercises in personal absolution any longer. You will not get either our permission or forgiveness.

These babies were stolen, separated from their mothers directly following their birth, made to endure fearful conditions and pain, confined in this manner until slaughtered for veal. As a mother, I CANNOT imagine the horror, emotional destruction, and anguish of being separated from my child, yet it's okay for the mothers of these babies, deliberately raped and exploited for such?

Furthermore, as I have answered on another post, Our Compass will also not accept any criticisms of why ARAs should INSTEAD be concerned with human issues. How utterly juvenile and belligerent, and as I wrote almost verbatim in response to a scathing criticism of ARA actions in light of children problems, why is it that ARAs are always demanded to justify what we do? Have you ever been to a mall, a sporting event, a movie, watched tv, or played video games? When is the last time you commanded the masses to undertake all those human tragedies as causes? Tell me, when is the last time you demanded the cessation of entertainment, boredom, folly, commerce, or socializing so everyone could instead help all those human victims? Right, like that wouldn’t be inconvenient in between your video games and iphone adventures.

I love self-congratulatory piousness, you give me greater reason to fight for those non-human animals you dismiss more easily than garbage: you wave your righteous indignation like a flag, heavy with emotion and condescension. You champion your LOVE of human animals through blatant admissions of condemnation of those same humans. Do you even see the hypocrisy? Only those humans who are victims of tragedy and oppression are, in your view, justifiable targets of your LOVE? What, because I haven’t been kidnapped, I am not deserving of your wealth of HUMAN compassion? While you complain on MY site, how many children have been kidnapped and raped? While you wasted precious moments condemning us, you wasted precious moments helping those you CLAIM as deserving of those said precious moments. The sad fact here is, you don’t even recognize your utter hypocrisy and disgusting lack of compassion.

The fact that you think we are only capable of one or the other, at the cost of compassion, is testament to your utter arrogance, selfishness, and idiocy. Your absolutely disgusting use of human tragedies to promote an anti-animal rights philosophy is despicable. You EXPLOIT human animal victims to JUSTIFY the EXPLOITATION of NON-HUMAN ANIMAL victims. Your opinions don’t even deserve reconciliation.

Our Compass has had our say. Take it or leave it, we have represented Our Compass goals, beliefs, and assertions with respect to animals while refusing to comply with those who denigrate this noble and moral endeavor. If, however, you are interested in learning and sharing about human rights, animal rights, and veganism, please stay, we want you here, we welcome your questions or contribution, expertise, and knowledge, and we will gladly participate in efforts to achieve such.

I haven’t touch any meat in over 25 years, but that doesn’t make me feel any less guilty for the time that I did.

Is it possible to get a “printable view” on your pieces? I really want to plaster this all over the place.

Wow, thank you all so much, your words really mean so much to me. Karen, another gem of perfection, we must have a page with only your poetry, when you have time, please send to me. 🙂 Monica, thank you! Thus far I have been unable to find a “printable view” function, or at least one that I understand (much of the functions on WordPress are tailored towards people who actually know a thing or two about programming, which is not me, lol), but if it is available, I will find one. In the meantime, though, I performed a search and found this site, and it works (I think!):

    http://www.printfriendly.com/

I tried it with an article, and while the pictures copied over, too, it allowed me to easily delete them, thus making it printing friendly.

Try it, please, and let me know if you like it, I can include a permanent link on the home page for an alternative (until, and if, I find a widget or program for the blog).

    Thanks!
