Background | Source No Avitrol
Pigeon Poison Avitrol is a very Deadly and Toxic Pigeon Poison used by only a few Las Vegas, Nevada pest control companies. Out of the over 300+ pest control companies in the Las Vegas area, only about 50 are known to use Pigeon Poison Avitrol.
Regardless of your opinion on the cruelty aspect of the poisoning, what needs to be given consideration are other possible threats to our community.
Avitrol claims there are “little or no reported incidents of secondary ingestion” The problem with their statement is the communities that are being poisoned are unaware they are being subjected to the poison. Therefore when there is an instance of sickness or death, the victims would never think to consider Avitrol as the culprit.
Avicides like Avitrol are acutely toxic and cause birds and other animals to suffer immensely. Avitrol attacks and impairs birds’ nervous systems, causing birds who ingest the poison to become disoriented, exhibit erratic flight and tremors, and suffer violent convulsions for hours before they finally succumb to the effects of the toxin.
For these reasons, cities such as New York City, San Francisco, and Boulder, Colorado, have worked with PETA and other animal protection groups to restrict or prohibit the use of Avitrol and other avicides. But these cruel, indiscriminant poisons should not be on the market at all.”

The problems with Avitol’s 1973 study referred to on their website are:
1. The report is 40 years old…
2. The birds used in the study were already dead from ingesting AVITROL prior to being fed to the animals
3. The food stored in the live Pigeons CROP is not mentioned, case studies are on Black Birds not Pigoens
4. No consideration to other birds taking Avitrol Poisoned corn back to their nest or dropped Avitrol while flying
5. Finally, Avitrol left or scattered at bait sites
Until we test for AVITROL during autopsies of ALL our dead pets, we will never know how much actual death AVITROL has caused…
http://www.avitrol.com/pdf/2NDARY.pdf
Avitrol Vendors will tell you Avitrol has no chance of “secondary ingestion” from other animals because Avitrol is “neutralized” upon digestion. However, pigeons store food in their “CROP” (like a lunch box) prior to ingestion… if a dog, cat, bird of prey, fox, etc. finds one of the Avitrol poisoned birds,, they go for the throat. Also, other birds will take the Avitrol laced cork kernels back the their nest or drop along the way… Imagine being at home and your dog comes in the house with a bird in its mouth that has been poisoned from Avitrol,, next the dog gets sick or dies.. You would never think about Avitrol as the source,, or do an autopsy on your dog… this is how pest control companies avoid liability,, ..We want a permit on Avitrol so we can trace incidents to the source… and also be warned prior to poisoning so we can keep our family and pets inside.. It that too much to ask for??

Trapping the pigeons vs using Avitrol is still considered killing them. Regardless of what the pest control company might have said, I seriously doubt the pigeons are going to be relocated to nice big pigeon farm in the country where they will have hundreds of acres to live out the rest of their lives in bliss. So our community manager might not be ‘personally” killing pigeons, however indirectly through personal decision making and influence to our HOA,, still held accountable…
OvoControl has been offered countless times as a Humane solution. I’m sorry if I sound a little harsh to others, however I’m a little upset that the problems our neighborhood’s unsanitary conditions that attract the birds have not been remedied prior to hiring an extermination company. Last count, there were 24 units with multiple bags of garbage on doorsteps and all our dumpsters are missing lids. Instead of being creative, interacting and communication with residents,, our Community Manager says there’s “nothing they can do”… instead,, they kill all the birds that come for food. Would it not make logical sense to keep the community clean, so the birds are not attracted to the area?? We do not have a roosting problem,, we have a bad community management problem … If this community were an apartment complex, incompetence could be understood, however this is condominium community where REAL people are realizing financial losses in their home appreciation. Nobody wants to buy a condo in an undesirable community. When Real Estate agents are showing homes to possible buyers, they’re not concerned about a few pigeons, they only see the 72 lock boxes on handrails and the 24 units with trash on their doorsteps…. these types of management styles are costing owners hundreds of thousands of dollars in LOST appreciation…
Here’s what the REAL pigeon problem is originates from in our community,, (food source) TRASH: http://www.saynoavitrol.com/1/post/2013/02/bad-property-managers.html

AWWWWW KELLY & BETTY SWINDLE,, have no children to leave their legacy of poison and destruction to.. (IMAGINE THAT!) Maybe if they had children, (or competent successors) they would have reconsidered their part in the destruction of our environment….. Mr. & Mrs Swindle,, take our advise and retire,, you have a few years left… leave the world the best gift ever and leave it AVITROL FREE!!!

As a commercial property owner, I am very thankful for avitrol. My pest control professional is meticulously detailed, following all federal and state laws. Histoplasmosis and Cryptococcosis (which are blood diseases) are caused by pigeons. I am so thankful we do not have to worry about our children or pets contracting these diseases!
As a pest control company owner, I am very thankful for Avitrol profits. My pest control employees are trained to follow Avitrol label instruction to the best of their knowledge. Histoplasmosis and Cryptococcosis are a couple of our greatest scare tactics used to close deals. I am so thankful to be able to use emotional sales triggers such as children and pets as psychological sale tactics,, damn it feels good to sale death…
said no viable pest control company ever….
In order to be susceptible to Histoplasmosis or Cryptococcosis, you would have to lie down and roll around in a massive pile of Pigeon Feces (this is a common misconception and scare tactic) If your development has this much pigeon feces, you should reevaluate your business practices , beginning with cleanliness… or call in a HAZMAT Team. What you should be concerned about is your children and pets from secondary Avitrol poisoning. Sounds like you got took by shady, fast talking, city slicker, Avitrol salesman too.. We were told our only alternative was snipers.. Sorry to hear you were so misinformed…
Check out this website: http://www.SayNoAvitrol.com
Check out OvoControl.com too,,, that is if you’re really concerned about the children and pets in your community..
Regardless of how meticulous your pest control company is/was,, they are placing everyone with miles of your community in harm. When we finally get mandatory permitting per bait site and public notice prior to poisoning,,, we’ll see just how much faith pest control companies have in their product,,, Recourse for action is an amazing thing..
Also,, here is a link to our RESOURCE ROOM,, where you can learn all about Avicides like Avitrol.. http://www.saynoavitrol.com/resource-room.html
Here’s a study from University of Kentucky on Avian diseases… Again, a person would have to have “HIgh Exposure” to feces to be concerned. “High Exposures” such as cleaning out an old building that had been a pigeon nest for years or actually consuming the fecal matter. If a human has HIV or a low immune system, pigeon poop is just one of many issues they should be concerned about… simply going outside or public places is placing them at risk… a common cold or flu is a much greatest threat..
With that being said,,, secondary exposure to Avitrol could also cause serious harm to a human who has HIV or a low immune system,, in addition to any other types of pesticides/avicides,etc. A displaced corn kernel, convulsing bird or a sick pet could all be deadly combinations for someone who has a low immune system or other immune diseases..
Avicides are a temporary remedy, using requiring quarterly poisonings,, placing children, elderly, healthy people, unhealthy people and pets at risk for as far a poisoned bird can fly for up to 60 hours before plummeting to the ground as an airborne contaminant.
The best alternative thus far is OvoControl,, a bird birth control. .. just not as profitable to pest control companies.. That is until disclosure of poisoning sites are required and liability raises company insurances policies enough to make poisons such as Avitrol unaffordable. When the public is aware of their neighborhoods being poisoned and a family becomes ill or a pet dies,, testing/biopsies searching for Avitrol ingredients will be demanded. Nobody would think to test a dead dog or cat for Avitrol,, they would have no reason. Unless disclosure prior to use…

After months of being lied to by our management company,, we finally learned the truth,, Avitrol was used in our community!,, We were lied to by the same people we hired and elected to represent and protect us.. Shame on Excellence Property Management, Regent Town Center Board,, and Lynn Blaylock< Liar<<…. See the official NDOA report here: http://www.saynoavitrol.com/regent-town-center-updates.html
Maybe you will think differently when someone you know dies from inhaling toxic pigeon feces from trying to clean up the mess they make(even with proper breathing apparatus). Pigeons are one of very few species that, if they were to become extinct, this earth would suffer no ill effects. I agree with responsible chemical management, including better planning and record keeping as well as liability for incidental poisonings. However, no feral pigeon deserves to live, that is my opinion. I’d be willing to bet that very few individuals who have posted have actually had to spend days on end cleaning up after these birds.
Where can I buy some I am almost out of ammo with the Feds buying it all up. Stop feeding the pigeons, the transients and voting for Leftists so that decent people can survive in this filthy world that you are trying to create.
