BACKGROUND | SOURCE PETA

Creek Project Investments, the Cambridgeshire-based company behind plans to build what could be the world’s largest foie gras farm in China, has announced that the project is now on hold pending a review of animal welfare concerns. More than 200 hectares of land in Nanchang, Jiangxi province, have been set aside for the factory farm. Three million geese are already at the intensive farm, which, according to the company’s website, would have “a projected total rearing of 100 million geese/ducks within 5 years”. Creek Project Investments has now said that plans are suspended whilst it looks into animal welfare concerns “which may or may not exist”. We urgently need as many people as possible to contact the company, let them know that the animal welfare concerns are very real and urge them to end their involvement in foie gras production permanently.

Foie gras, French for “fatty liver”, is produced by force-feeding ducks and geese huge amounts of grain and fat several times a day until their livers become grossly enlarged. The food is pumped directly into their stomachs via a tube that is forced down their throats. As a result of this cruel process, the birds become sick and lethargic and many have great difficulty breathing, walking and grooming.

Whilst foie gras production is legal in China, it is shameful that a British company is behind this cruel venture when force-feeding is rightly banned in the UK.

Cruelty to animals on this immense scale is almost unimaginable. Please speak out by contacting Creek Project Investments today and urging them to end their involvement in this shameful practice.

SAMPLE SUBJECT

Please Pull Your Investment From World’s Largest Foie Gras Farm

SAMPLE LETTER

To Whom It Concerns,

I am writing to ask that Creek Project Investments end its involvement in the cruel treatment of ducks and geese for foie gras. The suffering that birds endure for this “torture in a tin” is rightly condemned by both veterinarians and animal protection groups worldwide; many countries and cities ban foie gras production based on such. To force-feed any animal until his or her liver swells to up to 10 times its normal size is abhorrent. It is shameful that a British company is behind plans to build what could be the world’s largest foie gras farm in China, when foie gras production is illegal in the UK on animal welfare grounds.

Please assure me that your current suspension of plans pending a review of animal welfare concerns will be permanent.

Thank you for taking the time to read this urgent appeal.

Sincerely,

NAME

they will never

How anyone can do this is beyond me, but it is all a mystery in general how anyone can inflict such pain and suffering on any animal! Thanks, Linda.

Creek Project Investments may be registered in England, but everyone involved in this company is Chinese. Why would a large British company have an office in the high street of a small insignificant town in Cambridgeshire? I believe this is just a ‘front’ for a Chinese owned company. I don’t believe a word of it when they make a statement about the plans being suspended while they look into animal rights matters. They know very well what is involved in the production of foie gras!

A British company exploiting UK’s pseudo-strict animal-cruelty laws. If they really wanted to go somewhere where they could get away with inflicting unspeakably cruel, tortuous acts on sentient creatures, then they have chosen the right place, in China, to go to.

    Email sent.
