Help prevent introduction of bullfighting to the United Arab Emirates!

BACKGROUND
Our French/German colleague organization Stop Corrida informed us about an initiative to start organizing bullfights in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), namely in Abu Dhabi. Several French and Spanish media reported about this initiative.

It is said that in June 2010, meetings between bullfighting promotor Simon Casas and Prince Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi took place and that several bullfighters would be interested in the initiative. The first bullfights are planned for November 20-24 2010, according to bullfighting aficionados. There is even talk about building a bullring.

Stop Corrida and CAS International sent emails to the authorities in the United Arab Emirates and the embassies in Germany, The Netherlands and Belgium. The embassy in Germany assured us that they are 90% sure that the UAE are not interested in bullfighting, but of course we want to be 100% sure about this. Since the bullfighting industry in the traditional bullfighting countries (such as Spain and Mexico) is dealing with more and more losses, they are trying to expand their bloody business to other countries.

We want to make sure they do not succeed in organizing bullfights in the United Arab Emirates, as we also prevented bullfights in China, Russia and other countries.

Please send an email to the authorities in the United Arab Emirates HERE

CAS International and the Spanish political party for the animals PACMA produced a video (see below, first video in playlist) about the cruel fiesta Toro de la Vega in Tordesillas, Spain.

The video contains images of our joint demonstration on 12 September 2010 in Tordesillas, but also of the torture and killing of bull Platanito, who was stabbed to death with lances by more than 100 men on horse and on foot on 14 September 2010.

By showing this video, we hope to inform many people about what happens every year in Tordesillas and what we are doing to stop this once and for all. We also hope that the outrage about this horrible ‘festival’ will increase in Spain, so politicians are forced to end this animal suffering.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

RESOURCES FROM CAS

CAS International has gathered as much information on bullfighting and cruel fiestas as possible, to inform people about the cruelties committed against bulls and other animals. Attention! This information can be shocking.

Read more about:

If you don’t understand the Spanish expressions, you can look in our glossary.

There are also a lot of myths concerning bullfighting. Please take a look here to see several myths.

In the United States, Brazil, Germany, Australia, Canada and other countries, cattle and horses are severely maltreated during rodeos. The American organization SHARK, the German organization Initiative Anti-Corrida and the British organization FAACE work hard to abolish these atrocities.

Tips for tourists

As a tourist, you can also help us in our struggle to end bullifighting. A few tips:

  • Never go to a bullfight or a cruel fiesta, not even once. If you go to these cruel events, your money and presence supports this bloody industry. Ask other people to follow your example.
  • Do not buy any bullfighting souvenirs, especially not at bullrings.
  • Let shop owners know (in a polite manner) why you don’t want to buy these souvenirs. You can use our SpanishFrench or Portuguese letter.  (Also below.)
  • Do not eat or drink in bars and restaurants that promote bullfighting.
  • Send polite letters to media and (travel) organizations that promote bull suffering. Please inform us about it.
  • Ask the host of your travel organization to not promote bullfighting. If he/she indeed promotes bullfighting, please contact us, so we can address the issue ourselves.
  • Please check our website on a regular basis, for protest campaigns and the latest news.

ATTENTION! Some people are persuaded by local inhabitants of the bullfighting countries to attend a bullfight. These people sometimes tell you that it is a ‘training match’ or that the bull is not going to be killed. Once in the bullring, it turns out that the bull is indeed killed, just like during ‘regular’ bullfights. So do not buy these stories!

Some people advise others to go to a bullfight, to see with their own eyes how cruel a bullfight is. If they follow that advice, the bullfighting industry keeps generating income from tourism and we want to prevent this from happening. If you really want to see what a bullfight or a cruel fiesta is all about, you can take a look in our photo album or our video section.

Please End the cruel torture of Horses and Bulls from Bullfighting. Causing pain to any animal is just plain wrong. What kind of sick people could do this ? It’s the year 2010, time to make changes for the better, please do what is right. Animals feel physical and emotional pain, just like humans. You corner the Bull and torture him, and have the nerve to call this a sport ? That is pretty sick ! Clearly this is animal abuse !!! Have a heart. What is wrong with you people ?
