DON’T SUPPORT ANIMAL TESTING, DRUG or PRODUCT

Animal testing is an archaic and barbaric method of scientific research; millions of animals are exposed to painful, unnecessary rituals in the name of “safety”. First, two million people experience such severe reactions, including death, in the USA alone each year due to unanticipated drug reactions, making these adverse drug reactions the fourth leading cause of death. Why? Because we are NOT rats, dogs, or cats. The use of animals is a lucrative enterprise to those people who breed, sell, and test on innocent, non-human animals. Use of such archaic tests has delayed progress. Second, the USA does not mandate product testing on non-human animals; there are ingredients that have already been deemed safe (GRAS: Generally Recognized As Safe) that cruelty-free companies utilize. Furthermore, no matter how many animals are killed to prove such, any person who ingests polish remover or dish detergent, for example, will become ill, making animal testing useless. Third, there are no laws protecting animals for research; in fact, the Animal Welfare Act specifically EXCLUDES the animals used most for testing: birds, rats, and mice. Furthermore, because pain alleviation may negatively affect drug trials, tens of thousands of animals are deliberately caused pain and suffering and denied any comfort or pain relief.

Please visit the following sites to learn about the alternatives and to support those companies and/or products that adhere to an anti-cruelty philosophy. You will also find FREE offers of a pocket and wallet guide you can take with you whenever you shop. Remember, however, that although there are companies that offer cruelty-free products, the products themselves may not be vegan, so double-check to confirm you are not supporting anti-vegan products. It is also essential to recognize that not all companies that claim to be “anti-testing” are not necessarily cruelty-free; some companies contract their work to other businesses, and those OTHER businesses may indeed perform animal testing, so even if Company A claims to be cruelty-free, it may not necessarily be true because Company B, who sells Company A its ingredients, DOES test.

WHAT ELSE CAN I DO?

Please visit AAVS and send these automatic responses, they are very fast (Please note that some actions are only open to USA residents)! http://www.aavs.org/takeAlerts.php

Please visit NAVS alerts as well: http://www.navs.org/site/PageServer?pagename=advocacy_center

Remember, if non-human animals are similar enough to human animals thereby making them effective testing subjects, then they are similar enough to make testing on them as barbaric as it is on human animals.

As I stood at the Steel Doors, in the Basement of KU MED, I knew the thick steel was to silence the cries of tortured souls. Cameras mounted every four feet. I put my hands against the cold doors. I began to cry. The Primates, dogs, bunnies…… on the other side of the doors. I was overcome with Emotion. I pressed my body against the doors, stretched out my arms to embrace them. Crying as if my soul was reaching their souls. You’re not alone. I’m here for you. But what could I do? Cold thick steel. I slid down the doors and wept. I couldn’t do anything to help them. The cameras let me know, I’d never be this close again. Good bye precious ones. I’ll never forget you. I know your screams are silenced. I’ve been here–I know. It’s torture, it’s so wrong………..
